Whoa... crazy I bought the Balcones Lineage today because it was literally the last thing left in the liquor store from Balcones (damn supply chain issues). So far I've been pretty please with everything I've had of theirs. Big fan of the Baby Blue Corn Whiskey.

A shame that the only whiskey previewed in the Whiskey Advocate article screenshot at the beginning that wasn't tried in the video was from Lone Elm. Definitely because I am personally close with the distiller's and family, but the flavors coming from them, in Forney, even in Texas terms, are unusual and fascinating.

As a native Texan who loves whiskey, I've naturally focused mostly on Texas whiskey but getting your hands on a few of these bottles is downright impossible. I'm currently thinking of taking a vacation and hitting the TX Whiskey Trail just so I can get a bottle of some of these...

Was in Texas for vacation and Purchased the TX Sherry, Andalusia stryker and brought those back to Nebraska. Have not tried them yet but super excited. Bought a Balcones Lineage and finished while in Texas (Balcones classic single malt may be top 3 favorite whiskey). All because of this video. I really wanted any bottle of Ironroot but could not find one LOL. My brother moved to Kyle Texas so I am hopeful next year to make it to crowded barrel. I also bought a Joseph Magnus Straight Bourbon while visiting because of your videos so thanks for making me spend more money on vacation LOL.

I flipped out recently because I found it in my area (central New York) for the first time. Brought it home, and my wife and I were just calling out all of the aromas and flavors we were getting in there. A fantastic whiskey (that is already almost gone...)!

North Texan here, a couple anniversaries ago we visited the Garrison Brothers distillery. (They grow their own blue corn!) They have a super small crew working their distillery, would y’all ever consider doing a video there? They’re right outside of Fredericksburg which I don’t think is too far from Austin. Also, to be frank, their whiskey is cheaper there than any liquor store I’ve been to. xD by a BIG margin

Just started watching you, and you’ve reaffirmed my opinion of Texans. Met a bunch when I was in the Navy. All loud-mouthed blowhards, but loved them all. Never met a person from Texas I didn’t like. The Mexican-American guys were a bit quieter, but still great guys.

I'm in a NC whiskey group who did the state's first Ironroot barrel pick. With our Harbinger pick later this year the distillery is introducing several additional products to the state.

Great video, and possible the best sponsor promo ever. Two questions: Texas Whiskey Problem #1: Couldnt’ you get longer age statements if you aged barrels in a climate controlled environment? Texas Whiskey Problem #2: There is no official Texas Whiskey category. Why can’t we launch a campaign aimed at a whiskey friendly Texas politician?

Oh man, I FINALLY found it! The Firestone and Robertson Blended whiskey! I had it at a friend's house a while back and have been literally searching for it ever since. It was the most incredible whiskey I think I've ever had. Tasted like a professionally made vanilla cupcake with butterscotch frosting. Literally never had anything else like it. I'm hoping I can get my hands on it again soon, but I don't have much hope living out here in California... Edit: umm, so, now that I know the name, turns out, I can order it! Woo-hoo! Seriously happy about that :)

Figured this video would be the perfect time to try the Balcones Texas Straight Borubon release for the first time. It runs about $35-40 out here normally. But it can be hard to find. Found a leftover Christmas pack at Total Wine the other day for $30 for whiskey and two great rocks glasses. (posted on Whiskey Tribe FB group). This stuff is amazing. Nose has molasses, brown sugar, and oak. Palate adds honey, vanilla, and oaky with leather. Finish is pure vanilla cherry bomb, almost like a cherry vanilla coke. Super good stuff!

is that the red label? Not a fan of that one, but they made a high rye bourbon limited release (with a forest green label) that is so good. I had to run back and buy 2 more bottles while it was available

Great episode, But a couple of unanswered questions:1) Most, not all,Texas whiskeys have a noticeable char, barrel, funk taste. What is that? 2) Some Texas whiskeys do Not have that taste, yet are distilled in Texas. Why? Are some aged in a climate controlled warehouse?

Got my first texas whiskey last week. It is the balcones pot still bourbon and it is the most dense and falvourful whiskey I had. And I love it!

Their pot still bourbon was the first bourbon I've ever tried. Most of the whiskys I liked were Speysides but I bought a bottle of that on a whim...From the first sip, it made me realize that I'm a bourbon drinker. Or at least a Balcones drinker. 😂

Marcel, where do you live? If you can, try the Single Malt. And the Texas Bourbon. I was converted to mostly drinking bourbon by the 1792 Bottled-in-Bond. I was drinking an Arran 10 Year and getting minimal flavor from it. So I had a pour of the 1792 and it was like watching a movie in color after watching black-and-white.

I've tried one Texas whiskey (Balcones Lineage), and it went to the back of the shelf, then got dragged out and subjected to the same fate as all bad whiskey during Prohibition got. It got made into an Old Fashioned. It's really all you can do with such stuff.

I played around with a mini barrel a couple years ago. I did a batch of Irish, then bourbon, then rum. The Irish got overoaked; even though I was checking regular, in a day it went from good to too much oak tannin. The bourbon and rum was a lot more forgiving. I’m curious if malt whiskey maturation is more fragile than corn whiskey maturation in Texas

As far as I'm aware, Texas Crown Club is the only "Texas Whiskey" made in Canada. It's made by a Texas company, and is still designated Canadian Whiskey. All the branding would lead you to believe otherwise though. On behalf of all Canadians, please don't lump us in with them!

Curious about this - with Scotch, it's is fairly normal to reuse casks on the 2nd, 3rd, etc fill. Would using more "worn out" casks on whisky negate some of the over-oaking issues and allow you to age the spirit a little further?

What's with the barrel wrapped in plastic at about 13:00? I just got an empty barrel from my brewery and I wrapped it in plastic to keep it from messing up and y friends interior. After I did this I wondered why don't distilleries do that to keep the liquid from evaporating? Is this a new thing? Has it been tried before? Thanks

With the over aged barrels, would it be possible to rescue the whiskey by mixing in new make to dilute the barrel impact?

That would work, you could also make a drambui-esque liqueur with it. Could think of a few things better than just keeping it in the barrels to continue getting more oak.
