As seen on the "FORD STARTIME" special, "Merman on Broadway" {November 24, 1959}.

The "I worked my way down the list to Zimmerman" joke was a bit of an inside line. Ethel Merman's real name was Ethel Zimmerman. I suspect that the audience got it from the reaction.

Sir(s): "Pussycat, Pussycat, Where have you been?" --"I've been to London to see the Queen." "Pussycat, Pussycat, What did you there?" --"I frightened a Little Mouse Out From Under Her Chair." --J.D.

That's hilarious, since Ethel was bi- she carried on a long affair with Valley of the Dolls author, Jackie Susann, (who based the Helen Lawson character on Ethel) among others.

moontheloon5 That's one I've never heard ; not as surprising as James Dean w/ Clifton Webb, but pretty close.

Ethel was bi and Tab was gay- perfect. It's also funny cuz Ethel played a Broadway diva a lot of the time in her shows. Classic show.
