THIS is what "Social Studies" should actually be. Social dynamics, debate, cognitive bias, logical falacies, conversation.
@waynemangan72005 ай бұрын
I agree, this should be in requisite in H.S. Took a college sociology class in 2015, the Prof, about my age (43) he did a good job of covering these dynamics and their pitfalls, even late stage capitalism, and ended up being challenged by young liberal women in the class, though he kept his points to social structures and logical fallacies. He invited all challenging questions. I dont have someone elses point of reference as to a current, non community college sociology curriculum though.

As early intervention is key, I would love if this kind of learning started in Kindergarten. Preferrably well before the hormones kick in. So far I've seen almost nothing formal being taught in the elementary schools. Only a couple of great teachers taking it upon themselves to augment their curriculums with this kind of stuff.

You can't control people that way. People realize the things they believe that give them comfort aren't real. Then they start to think for themselves. From a governmental/political perspective, that's very dangerous.

Instead we are told that this is what happens, this is how it is, and don't challenge it. If you challenge what someone is "teaching" you...they get defensive and take you to the principals office so to speak. Because you are thinking for yourself and they don't want that. They want you to soak it in and JUST BELIEVE. Don't ever just believe in ANYTHING

There are many KZfaq channels where people treat the creator like a cult leader. And it happens often with small channels. If you say something against their "leader" you will be attacked even if you have a valid point. It's really really weird. ....Larger channels too. Soft White Underbelly, Mark Laita def has a following that blindly follows him no matter what he does. I find the most fascinating cult.. well, I guess there would be more than one even though in my mind they are all just variations of one but.. religion. Each variation has different things but essentially they are all the same. As an Atheist who see's the problems of all of these religious cults, it is intriguing to learn each individual believers reason for believing. Most times it's going to be a young mind that was indoctrinated before it had time to grow and defend itself from that sort of brain washing. The one's I am truly enthralled with and it is hard to find, I should add.. later in life just picking one up, after not being involved in the slightest with any variation of it.I have heard about it and read some stories but I can't help but think the back story of that person is a lie because I can't imagine a reasonable adult brain being able to accept it after having never been exposed to it before.

Number one lesson we can take away from cults is that people are much more malleable than we'd like to admit. We think that our minds are a locked box and that we hold the key but the terrifying thing is there are harmful people who (through charisma, social skills etc.) have the master key and (over time) they can get you to do almost anything. They can make you turn your back on your family, give them all your possessions, give them your spouse, yourself, give them even your own children(!).
@leslie69385 ай бұрын
I'm really interested in the people who are NOT susceptible to cults, mind control, etc. Some people by nature question everything. I am one of them. Covid was a huge eye opener. I knew a lot of people were easily influenced, just go along with what they're told or what they think "everyone" is doing or what influential people in their lives believe. However I completely overestimated how many people will notice and question basic inconsistencies and lies, even when they have direct life/death implications. Crazy and scary to be amongst so many nonthinkers.

The idea that tribes had many different leaders per situation can be seen as late as the mid-to-late 1800s with different bands of the Chiracahua Apaches. Geronimo could never be a chief due to his bloodline, yet he was war chief for different raids that he proposed. And that includes leading Cochise, chief of his band, during such raids. At that point, the western Apache hadn’t settled down save for being assigned to reservations in Arizona. The Western Apache, particularly in southern Arizona and northern Mexico, were perhaps the last nomadic people in the northern hemisphere

I used to be a religious fanatic. Let me give you an insight into what they truly are: One thing I realized about the psychology of cult members and fanatics is that they were preyed upon by the other members during a very vulnerable state. They use people's need for belonging and forgiveness. They use people's urge to fill a void that they can't fill up at the moment. I used to be one right after my parents divorced when I was 13, after 8 years I've grown out of it, especially after seeing that evil and good people are in each social group of any kind. Nothing special about them and every interaction feels like a fantasy set-up or a role-playing game. The most vile and pretentiously devoted to the cause wins the upper ''ranks''. Everyone knows everyone is acting, but no one wants to wake each other's demons because they all subconciously know that the others are also there because they replaced the void a trauma caused and don't wanna deal with it. No need to say I don't belong to a belief system now.
@RearrangeGinger5 ай бұрын
It's similar to "the game". People don't wanna talk about it cause if they do they're out of the "game" or "group". That's why people are fake, they're at least accepted and feel status. It's not just in religion or cult, it's every day life. Fuck this current world
@madtownangler5 ай бұрын
I was in foster homes then got adopted. So I have been baptized in three different religions. The best thing that I got out of all those years of stuff is the ten commandments. They are for the most part a good way to live your life and treat people with respect. My adopted dad spent the last fifteen years before he retired as a Methodist preacher so it's kinda weird for me. The funny part is when religious people try to get me to go to the church for worship I tell them that you are supposed to go in a quiet room and pray to God by yourself it doesn't say you are supposed to go and do your stuff out in public where everyone can see you I still hang around with religious people I just sleep in on Sunday morning. I even spend a week a year at a church camp on vacation with my parents and whoever can come out for a few days whether it's a niece and nephew, a brother, or some friends. We do nothing religious at the.camp.except pray before supper.

Great podcast I agree with almost all of it. Barring the if you are an introvert you can never become an extrovert. I was massively introverted in high school and then became extroverted. (sadly it was because of alcoholism that precipitated it) But after I stopped drinking I stayed extroverted. Through it I saw a different perspective on life one where I could understand people because my inhibitions and walls were lowered. I have no doubt in my mind that someone could do it all through sobriety but it was a crutch that I used to gain that. This isn’t me saying drinking is a strategy guide or a shortcut that its great cause it’s probably the worst vice you can get into. I’m saying that introverts need to see the world and force themselves into doing something they don’t like to crack their shell and become extroverts through seeing naturally extroverted people and seeing how they act.

I’ve been saying that for years. David called out the elitist p3d0 sex trafficking rings a LONG time ago before Epstein and all that shit.

I have learnt the most about the value of life and humanity from people who were atheists or agnostic. And I have only experienced a fixed mindset and intolerance for the other from people who are religious. 🤷🏻♀️ for me it’s logically clear which group is more human, moral and sophisticated when it comes to critical thinking

I have always been intrigued and in awe of cult leaders and their followers. To get other humans to believe in something that is just not true and make the thing they believe mysterious is a true gift and grift.
