The only thing I found useful is that this tool advances. I have artritis which makes it hard to hold the punch so I purchased a small drill press & it works fantastic! I do not turn it on it simply holds whatever size punch I place in it & I can follow the pattern holes to punch effortlessly with a pull of the handle and cost me less than $200 (place a sanding disk or my burnisher in the chuck & turn it on works great for that too) Just wanted to share. Thanks again Tony always love your vids...

I purchased one and made a nice board for it. TO DO CURVES…Turn the edge guide around and use the round end as a guide and you can follow inside and outside curves. A good manual could have shown that but they really dropped the ball on the manual. It’s also important that each down stroke is the same or the spacing will be off.

Hopefully as with any new machine, they listen to negative feedback and make requested improvements. Also, competitors will start popping up with different versions and hopefully lower the price. Thank you for pointing out that this won't with your patterns. Stay healthy and stay great everyone!

I bought one when it first came out. It does a great job on straight lines, very precise and clean. Curves...eh. I find it handy for when I teach classes in a local gallery making simple card wallets or journal covers with just straight edge stitching. Goes quick, precise and keeps the pounding to a minimum. It is very well made, precision machined. Definitely could use some tweaks, but if you don't have a sewing machine, get migraines from pounding stitching chisels, and do a lot of straight lines, it's great. I would like the round hole punch and adjustable hole spacing too.

When I saw that Tony was going to be doing this review, I looked it up and found the video from Makers Leather Supply (the seller). It was from a year ago, when they started selling it (and apparently it sold out pretty quickly then). One of the questions posted was asking about other dies rather than the two that came with it (a stitching chisel and a lacing chisel). They said it was in the works but it seems that hasn't happened yet. I also looked through their videos to see other examples of them using it and couldn't find any. I think I'll pass since there isn't enough info out there on this (and one of the people who left a detailed comment was not happy with it).

I agree with you that not for everybody. I have 8 sets of pricking Iron from Crimson hide to Verges Blanchard and I don't need it. I will resale some of them in the future, keeping the appropriate ones. I have a 20 prong one and you can punch once in a wallet and don't need this semi-automatic punch. For somebody, it will be helpful sure.

Hey Tony, Thanks for the review! I’ve looked at this item many times over the last couple of years and even though I appreciate the thought process around it, I can not justify spending the money for it as of yet. Hey Tony, great video as always. If it saves a decent amount of time, it's worth the money. It does have some limitations, but I think I might be able to overcome most of them with some tinkering. I already use lacing chisels for your patterns so that part does not bother me. I think a tweak to the stitching guide could be made so that it would work for all but the tightest inside curves. Hard to say until I play with one though. And it's a lot to spend on a "maybe it might be cool" item.

Some people in the US use metric. Science, manufacturing, military, etc. American = Imperial is an assumption. The best evidence for imperial here evidence here is the adjustments not meeting metric measurements. Although, the lack of markings or any other indication could mean that there is no adherence to a standard.

I agree with the review Tony. The only thing I'd add is we do get a lot of folks saying pounding is too loud, if you live in an apartment. This didn't sound too loud. But how do you do lots of patterns and curves? If you only do wallets or belts it's probably a good tool without having a sewing machine and you probably have to do a lot to pay for this tool.

It looks like if you could get a replacement plate for the bottom with a smaller rounded point for the distance adjusting plate that you might be able to work corners. And you might be able to swap out the lacing chisel for a round punch or at least a 4 prong punch, but it seems like it'll take a little bit of metalworking to make that an option

This tool is definitely interesting. It clearly could be helpful for long straight runs, for example hand stitching belts. Im curious how it would do on something with lots of curves. Also, this tool is limited by the throat depth; If you were making a 'leather tool roll' or a 'work apron' those items usually require stitching in the center of a large area where this thing just wouldn't reach at least not easily. It certainly isn't useless, but unless you are cranking out something in a production environment (like a belt factory) I think you are better off with a quality set of "irons". This tool is a specialty item.

Too expensive for my blood. I'll stick with my arbor press with round hole punches attached with a 3D printed adapter.
