my comment was kind of a joke, but regardless of that or why you're so mad about it, it doesn't matter if you know who he is or not. just because it's someone's preferred style of drumming doesn't mean he's not an amazing drummer, and you can conclude that just by watching 5 seconds of this video. i'm personally more impressed by someone who has timing and groove than someone who sprints on a double bass, and uses that as a crutch. fyi, i own a double bass pedal. cheers.

I started playing the drums at the age of 10 in the 4th grade school band, and I wish that I got paid money just like Bernard did. I still play the drums today as a high school student. I been taking drum lessons once a week at sam ash music stores since I started 7th grade. I got my first drum set when I was in 5th grade on Christmas Day. I was super excited because I’ve been dying my whole life to have a real instrument in my house. The drum set is like a dar blue ludwig and it has 2 cymbals. My godmother got me a splash cymbal when I was in 6th grade because I wanted to have more. I am thinking about getting myself another 5 piece drum set that is light blue with 5 cymbals. I don’t play the drums in the school band anymore because I learned to play a woodwind instrument. I learned how to play the alto saxophone in 6th grade because that was another instrument I wanted to try. I switched to the bass clarinet in 7th grade, and I played the tenor saxophone in 8th grade. Now as a freshman, I play both the alto and tenor saxophone in my school band. In my high school marching band, I play the alto saxophone. I didn’t choose to play the drums in marching band because they would be too heavy on my back. So I stick to the saxophone instead. I will learn how to play the trumpet for jazz band when I go back to in person learning soon. I am thinking about switching back to the drums when I’m a junior in high school because I always wanted to play the drum set in a real band. I hope that pretty soon I would get to have a drumming career like Bernard!

God Bless you Purdie! Home at Last is still my favorite song to practice to for feel and timing. Being able to lay down a Purdie Shuffle is essential to being a complete drummer. Two other essential grooves to know are Kid Charlemagne and Green Earrings. Green Earrings being the more difficult of the two but also slightly more fun. Not to take away from Purdie but also check out the “in the cracks” feel of James Gadson on Use Me and Kissing My Love from Bill Withers and lastly there’s Cissy Strut and I Just Kissed My Baby by the Meters. Now that’s a drumming toolbox!
