Little Regg If he was a blank then his very presence would have stopped/weakened the main chaos enemy from utilizing his powers let alone fuck with the psychic presence of everyone around him. We don’t see his presence make any of the people around him be any form of hostile except for the rookie Astarte in his unit and that only stems from the fact that he doesn’t follow the codex to the absolute letter.

One other possibility is discussed by Colonel-Commisar Gaunt of the Tanith First and Only to an Inquisitor regarding a theory of Chaos Resistance called 'The Armor of Contempt.' In the book of the same name, an entire resistance movement fighting for years on a Chaos controlled planet showed virtually no signs of Chaos corruption, even considering many had been branded with a fungal sign of identification. Gaunt, who had fought with these rebels years earlier, expressed his belief that their hatred of Chaos was so great that it nullified the psychic corruptions of Chaos. Considering the great rage Titus has against the Chaos Marines in the game, especially when his close ally Sedonis was murdered, it is entirely possible that this 'Armor of Contempt' provided the means for him to resist even direct Warp attacks.
@codyblea3638
@codyblea3638 4 жыл бұрын
Makes a lot of sense, I wonder if his earlier experience with the chaos lord was like a sort of initial inoculation. And Sedonis' death was like a booster. The Armor of Contempt may actually be humanities natural resistance to chaos. Like our immune system the Armor needs to be able to identify the corruption and have a soul that is willing to die fighting chaos. Just like our immune system starts to fail if you give up, your Armor of Contempt needs you to stay strong. Things like faith could reinforce that willingness to fight chaos, in turn increasing their hate for chaos and its corruption. Making their armor much stronger. Hell, Titus's faith in the Emperor and Humanity could be his Armor of Contempt. Wishing only for his species to prosper, and his hate for all who would threaten it being comparable a nova.

It was also speculated by Inquisitor Lornas Welt that the native toxins and the venomous moths of the Untill regions on Gereon could be a curative remedy against Chaos taint; however, it seems to be strongly implied by Surgeon Ana Curth, after her and MkVenner's extended stay on Gereon to help the rebels and the Partisans, that any beneficial effects of Untill moth venom are combo-platter of broad-spectrum antimicrobial with a slight effect against the weaker physical manifestations of Chaos corruption, such as those found in wounds that refuse to heal or the rapid sickening of individuals that were otherwise at the peak of health and conditioning.

Here is my theory: Titus was protected by the Emperor himself. Why? Because he is one of the few people who fits his dream of humanity and space marines: he is an independent thinker who can get things done and he is loyal to humanity (and i don't think i need to mention his auramite balls). Titus: the first of few Ultramarines that i actually like. a theory i have about Titus is that the Warp itself gave him the resistance he has, the part of it that is protected by the Tree of Life. as for the traitor Leandros.... "The Codex Astartes is a set of rules. They guide us... shape us as Ultramarines... teach us to hold duty and honor sacred above all. But how we live with those rules is the true test of a Space Marine. And you have failed." - Titus to Leandros after the liberation of Forge World Graia.

The Irony is, of course, Titus's understanding of the Codex was Robute's original intent. But the ret of the Ultramarines have become so hidebound and dominated by the idea of living up to the letter of their Fathers teachings they have forgotten it's true meaning. It was this rebellion that was seen by many as Titus's first steps of heresy when in reality it was something completely different! Personally I think his shear force of will and faith in his Chapter shielded him. We have seen the same happen several times, with particular devout characters withstanding Chaos's influence, if only for a short time. Making it doubly ironic and tragic that in the end it's his own Battle Brother that is the first to cry heretic!

Warsmith Time: We have learned in Stormcaller, the second of Chris Wraight's trilogy that recently there has been a process called "Awakening" that occurs within the near infinite ranks of humanity. Psionic abilities which are triggered by specific events such as war and strife. We have also learned that although the Librarius and other organizations test for psionic abilities they sometimes are unable to properly see how or if they exist, as was the case with Baldr from the mentioned series. Humanity lacks a full comprehension of what is possible in terms of its psionic evolution, it is likely that exposure to the warp energy merely triggered Titus gifts.

We are going quite a long way around the block in order to walk next-door. Ultramarines are known for iron discipline, CPT Titus was disciplined. CPT Titus would not be MORE resilient to Chaos power if he had partially fallen, but MORE VULNERABLE. Nemeroth tempted him with the honeyed words of Chaos and also attempted to beat him with the iron stick of the power of Chaos. Neither worked. If Titus were actually already influenced, the exposure to the maximum power of the power source along with the direct power and offer of power from Nemeroth, then Titus would have reflected some outward sign of corruption, like his heretic cousins. He did not. He showed NO signs of corruption either physically or in his behavior. Titus was actively trying to KILL NEMEROTH. I know this because I was controlling him in my video game! If he could have done it earlier, he would. Captain Titus had two things that saved him: the grace of and faith in the Emperor. The deep connection to the Warp was the power of the Emperor. Nemeroth was just trying to tempt Titus. He was shielded, warded, granted supernatural speed and skill, and with that, he was able to overcome not only crushing numerical inferiority, but the full powers of the Warp and heretic veterans of the long war. The Emperor shielded Titus before and saved him for this monumental task on Graia. Mundane explanations of simple skill don't explain it. He was obviously not a blank, not only for the ample reasons stated but because he put the humans and astartes around him at ease, not unease. Lieutenant Mira apparently thought that Titus was "dreamy". I am a little disappointed that you did not explore this possibility. If anyone were taking the first steps down the 8-fold path, it was Leandros. He was over-killing orks, nay-saying the strategies of the Captain, and trying to remove the best piece from the board that the Imperial forces had using the Inquisition, thus taking eyes off of his iniquities. Captain Titus is in the Deathwatch serving his Emperor well.

well from what was known of the production: -Titus was supposed to be branded rebel and hunted by the inquisition on the second game. -redeemed and funded a new loyalist chapter in the third game. so taking this into account. Far-out theory: When the Chaos sorcerer killed Titus' former squad, the churning of the Warp due to the energies released at that point in space and time created a unique situation wherein the souls of Titus' deceased squad members became permanently attached to him instead of dissipating into the Warp or going to the Emperor. So now, even if Titus doesn't realize it, wherever he goes he's never fighting alone. The souls of his fallen brothers are silently there beside him, protecting his still-living soul and giving him a measure of Warp-resistance.

There was something else I learned whilst playing the game and finding some of the Inquisitor's Audio logs. It was mentioned in the video - the Psychic Scourge was meant to target *specific* races based on their Warp signature, and thus far during the tests, it was attuned to affect only various Xenos and not humans. And throughout the game, the only "human" to be exposed by it was Titus. Could it be that the power source is also attuned when the weapon is? Although prolonged exposure could bring about the taint, the way the weapon was tuned meant it's affects on Humans and Astartes were minimum if only exposed briefly as it was not attuned to affect them the same way it was attuned to affect Xenos? Although Nemeroth did use his powers on Titus, such as when he first appeared, the other times it seemed he was channeling his powers through the Power Source when he was casting them, around the same time Titus seemingly no longer appeared to be affected by them anymore.

The ability to adapt would be more valuable than pure compliance to the Codex Astarte's. I like to think that when the inquisitor got back to his base, there was a member of the Custodes to talk Titus off his hands and bring him back to Holy Terra to be given an audience with the Emperor and then placed in a top secret group who wages a shadow War against the enemies of man whom us only answerable to the Captain General of the Custodes.

My personal head-canon regarding this matter has always been the following: It was Inquisitor Drogan who first stated that exposure to the device was so dangerous, but due to the fact that he had already been possessed by a daemon by the time Titus met him, his word on the matter cannot be trusted. Drogan’s “surprise” at Titus being able to “withstand” exposure was simply an act, one meant to sow the seeds of suspicion amongst the Ultramarines who were present. As the daemon possessing Drogon was a servant of Nemeroth, than it stands to reason that it informed its master of what it had done since taking control of Drogan, including the fact it had begun to sow doubts amongst the Astartes. We never see anyone else who is not already uncorrupted handling the device. In reality, it’s no where near as corrupting as Drogan makes it out to be, therefore almost anyone could handle being exposed. That fact, combined with Titus’s loyalty and devotion to serving the Emperor made him impossible to be effected. Also, can I just say that it was pretty dumb of Leandros to continue to trust the word of Inquisitor Drogan once they learned his was a puppet of Chaos? That’s literally trusting the word of your enemy about the trustworthiness of your superior officer. Even if my theory above is not true, it’s still a mark against Leandros’s level of intelligence.

When the game was finished, I immediately thought of, and really liked, the idea that he was actually a latent psyker. Somehow making it through testing for such a thing by the Chapter's Librarians would have been unlikely but not impossible. I envisioned it as some passive skill that assisted him without him being aware, increasing his combat prowess and situational instincts, which led to his exemplary performance and him rising through the ranks. Although, this likely meant that those Black Templars assisting the Inquisitor at the end killed him.

There is another option that might be a bit different as well. We know that Faith can do a lot, such as the entire thing with the Sisters of Battle being largely uncorruptable without extraordinary means, there have been hints of this also applying to other Imperials with the origins of various Imperial Saints. His faith and determination might hint towards his faith being a shield there. Basically, the Emperor Protects having a tangible effect concerning him. The thing with Numeroth returning to the Warp in the end seems to have simply been incomplete knowledge on things, your example of the other interrupted apotheosis did involve Ultramarines, and Titus is a higher ranking member, so having some basic knowledge of the situation fits, but even there you wouldn't have everything. Also, the guy being in terminator armor with everything else would make him a tough nut to crack for someone in standard power armor, so it would make sense for him to have gone through everything he'd learned for the best chance to actually take the sorcerer down. Of course, other things might be that he simply had more of a psychic resistance than normal...or enough talent to learn the protections and not much else. Hell, it would fit his take on tactics in the game for him to have approached the chapter librarians to be taught how to resist warp based energies in the past and simply have considered it a relatively normal thing regarding mental discipline...or even had seen powers cause bad things in the past and took it upon himself to prepare for running into more.

A less likely alternate theory: Titus managed to archive the full potential of what Gulliman's gene-seed could provide him. Guilliman has shown that in extremis he either can manifest powers like the Emperor as seen in the novel Godblight or is capable of channeling the Emperor. Consider how the Primarchs would have been ultimate pure examples and derivatives of the Emperor, being 20 shining beacons of him that got corrupted by the Warp. Many had abilities that were supernatural yet were not obviously pyscher-like or displayed the abilities of a psyker. Superior regeneration, unusual resilience, invisibility of one kind of another, ability to calm the Warp, etc. What if Guilliman did not discover his own abilities simply because he did not believe he have any (and ironically somewhat protect him from exposure to the Warp simply because he refused to believe it). Guilliman has shown unnatural resistance to the Warp, which was chalked off to him just being a primarch but what if it is more than that? What if Titus is tapping into the same ability? First when he confronted that Chaos sorcerer and later on, without thinking about it?

For the part of nemeroth, i think i have an explanation of why Titus suggested to let it start transforming and then attacking: Experience. Titus already fought with another chaos sorcerer, but it could be that said sorcerer was already transforming, Titus saw the chance and realised that he is weaker while transforming. He tought that may work in nemeroths case too, but sadly, while he indeed stop the invasion, he failed to kill him, realising that this strategy is a real hit or miss. This might also explain the slighty connection to the warp. But that would be strange, the chapthers librarians would have found that out quickly thou

Towards the end of the game it becomes apparent that Titus is filled with a rage that has been kept in check through his force of will and his structured life in the Chapter. The second game, where those checks wouldn't have been in place, should have featured a 'berserk' Titus. His recovery from that state would have been the plot of the third game. Combined this with his resistance to sorcery and the 'recover health from killing enemies' gameplay feature and it starts to sound an awful lot like Titus had been unwittingly 'blessed' by forces aligned with Khorne, possibly by Daemon that had a score to settle with a certain sorcerer.

Unable to return to the ultramarines due to this. Also I wanted to see more of what would of happened to Leandros because without question he would of become a pariah of the chapter, never looked to and always shunned. The marine who was known as the one who handed a fellow marine over to the inquisition instead of letting the chapter deal with it back home. It might of been interesting if Leandros was seen later in the story having left the ultramarines due to this and in turn had fallen to chaos himself.

I've always liked the theory that he was protected by Khorne. The mechanics where you can perform brutal kills to heal or go into a berserker frenzy fed that theory. I guess we'll (probably) never know for sure though. I liked the idea that Leandros, the guy we all hated and assumed was wrong and felt that he turned on his captain, may have in fact been right in a way.

Titus wasn't the sole survivor of the events of Space Marine, Leandros survived as well. He snitcted and was responsible for Titus' arrest by the Inquisition.

I never said he was. When I said he was the sole surviving member of his squad, that was during a campaign _prior_ to the events of Space Marine. "During a campaign against the forces of Chaos, Titus would be sole surviving member of his squad following an encounter with a powerful Chaos Sorcerer. Titus was grievously wounded in the attack, but would succeed in slaying the psyker, avenging the deaths of his brothers in the process. This conflict would later see the death of the second company’s captain, and Titus would eventually be chosen to act as his successor. "

@40KTheories I misunderstood. You did say "Prior." My mistake. The way you explained how the mission played out immediately reminded me of the events of the second half of the Space Marine game. Most notably Titus fighting Chaos, battling a powerful Chaos Sorcerer (Nemeroth), avenging the death of his Brothers (Sergeant Sidonus), etc.

I think it was combination of his will and faith in himself and what his chapter stands for, and the Emperor of course, combined with being a latent Psyker, perhaps an ability that got woken up when he got in the fight with the chaos spell caster dude earlier in his career. To me, the idea that he's what a Space Marine should aspire to be makes sense when you consider the meeting between Uriel Ventris and Guilliman. Uriel Ventris also treated the Codex flexibly like Titus, and he got in serious trouble for it. But when he met Guilliman and the subject of his repuation came up, Guilliman told him that rules that are never broken lose their meaning, and become barriers to you instead of protection. I'm sure he'd say the same to Titus, seems to me Titus was just an great example of a Space Marine. As for Titus maybe helping a demon ascend, it could just have been a mistake or error in judgement. Guilliman told Ventris that even Primarchs can be mistaken, so for sure a Space Marine can, without being corrupted.

Isn't it established that "blanks" don't so much nulify warp powers as supposed to weaken them. Though for a majority of psykers a ordinary blank is enough, for a particular powerful psyker may just be weakened by the blank. This explains why Titus was the only to survive.
