Well, they kind of dress the same. Red robes, asymmetrical features and an overall lack of care for how they look. Put one of each on a spot and it's be a bit hard to know which is which. At least until they start speaking. Or try to kill each other.

They worship machines and will shove as much on them as they can. They wear large red robes and speak in binary. They hang in forges and claim allegiance to none but themselves. We were supposed to get a second and possibly third game where Titus is escaping the inquisition and becoming a psyker. The Space Marine game didn't make enough money though, so it was cancelled.

Uriel Ventris and Pasanius got sent on a death oath into the Eye of Terror for breaking the Codex. Even though doing so resulted in the death of the Norn Queen and the destruction of a splinter of Hive Fleet Leviathan. Uriel had always used the Codex more as guides than solid rules but that time I guess he went too far. But then he met Guilliman and it was a great passage of the book of you've followed Uriels adventures. Guilliman referenced Uriels reputation and Uriel said it wasn't all good, but Guilliman told him that rules which are never broken are meaningless and they can end up being barriers that lose the purpose of protection they once had. Basically telling Uriel his approach to the Codex was right all along.

Chaos Gate was, with Final Liberation, my first 40k experience. I was under the age of 10 and had no clue about the wider lore. The Ultramarines were the only Space Marine legion I had any exposure to at this time. As far as 8 year me was concerned, 40k space marines were the coolest sci-fi soldiers I had ever seen. 5-8 years later, I was reintroduced to the lore via the first installment of DoW. Naturally, I chose to play Ultramarine colours during multiplayer matches. The reception I got from my friends is one you'd expect... I was unaware that the Ultramarines had become one of the most hated factions in 40K. I soon learned that a 'certain writer' was responsible for the hate. I always thought of them as 'Kickass Space Romans', how could not be seen as cool? Apparently not. I was left feeling that I had unknowingly committed a mortal sin. Question for others: Has anyone else had this experience? I can't be the only person to get into 40k because of the early Ultramarine games.

Cato Sicarius, he was the sole reason the chapter did not fully adhear to the codex astartes because he was both chapter champion and captain of the second company. Because he insisted on holding both titles he constantly puts his men in danger by abandoning them in the middle of battle to engage in honor duels. Granted at the very least when Gullimen came back he finally forced him to hold a single position as leader of the Victrix Guard. Which fortunately means he's far less likely to be the next heir apparent in the event of Gullimens demise.

@patrick howard you're right, the Guardsmen are the glue that holds the Imperium together... However Space Marines are seen as downright mythical by the populace. Space Marines, Ultramarines in particular, give the people hope.

Sure it would have. The story would have just been written differently. It's super weird when people give fictional characters credit for their "feats". The only person to get hype about is the writer for sparking your imagination. Fictional characters can't actually accomplish anything on their own.

Ultramarines means marine of Ultramar or more literal translation People of Ultramar

The greatest space marines are clearly the Deathwatch and Grey Knight, for different reasons.

Too obscure a piece of lore for the series at this point. Remember, this series is intended for persons with little knowledge of 40K lore, and those people are unlikely to have any reason to know about the Men of Iron unless their main exposure to 40K is through Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress (even then, the necessity of that knowledge is minimal). Not really a "Newcomers" subject. More something for those who've already got a good handle on both the 40k and 30k eras as they're so vast.

As interesting as the Men of Iron are, they are so obscure and have such little influence in 40K that there really is no point in bringing them up. Anyone who wants to know about them should look them up on Warhammer 40K Lexicanum.

When Guilliman met Uriel Ventris for the first time he said something along those lines. He said that he'd heard about Uriel several times and Uriel told him that not everything would have been good, referecing the time Uriel was sent on a death oath for breaking the Codex. Guilliman said something like rules and traditions that are never broken become meaningless or worse they become a barrier to you, and they lose whatever purpose they had.

White Scars will probably be more likely, given that their codex just came out. If the rumor mill is running true, Salamanders probably won't be too far away.
