How to properly get the square root if it's not a perfect square?

Great question! You can write your answer a few different ways: 1) you can keep your answer as a square root 2) you can simplify the square root if possible and write it in simplest form (again, that's if it is possible to simplify the square root) 3) you can take the square root using a calculator and write your answer in decimal form I have a video on the Pythagorean Theorem that involves a couple of problems where this is the case (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d9NhZMl5lce2g6c.html). #2 in both sections of this video are examples that may help you out. I also have videos on the Pythagorean Theorem involving decimals.
