Her Majesty The Queen and the prime minister Boris Johnson have led the many tributes to Captain Sir Tom Moore ho's died at the age of 100.
He was admitted to hospital with pneumonia in January and again a few days ago. His family confirmed he'd tested positive for Coronavirus.
Sir Tom was a veteran of the Second World War. He’d raised almost £39m for NHS charities during the first lockdown last year.
That remarkable achievement led to nationwide respect and earned him the admiration of millions. Sir Tom said the pinnacle of the past year for him was being knighted by The Queen at Windsor last summer.
Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reporting by David Sillto and home editor Mark Easton.

The man has left a legacy of things - not only is it a big shame on us as an society than a retired veteran can raise vital money for the NHS in his garden yet the government can't coax the 4th biggest economy in the EU into it without convoluting it with an expectancy of under payment, private involvement and un-neccecary death. It is a shame on everyone who ignores what is happening to public services and another embarrassing moment to remember that voting - not clapping, may have avoided the strain on our public resources - something that good ole' Boris and his mates would rather not exist (: well.. beyond making it a lucrative private market...

@Ramming Speed no. Hero because despite getting over illness and being very old, he wanted to show his gratitude and selflessly raise that money when he didn't have to. He inspired others to do the same, even during the challenging times of 2020. He started something positive. If you don't think that, fair enough but I believe he deserves far more respect than you're currently giving him/his actions.

@Ramming Speed Either way, raising 32 million pounds for the NHS, we should thank him, it not only helps the NHS, but it helps the patients who are in them, I don't understand why you are this cold ffs, a 100 year old man passing who fought for my country during its darkest hours, and helped to lift spirits and give hope to many during the pandemic, you my friend are heartless and cold, what's wrong? Are you being conflicted at home? Do ur parents hate you or something? Are you not loved? Either way idc, just leave this comment section, at least he was someone, and did great in his life, you will remain a nobody if this is the way you treat those who have given so much.

As a fellow yorkshireman from bradford , i feel a certain pride in this officer and gentleman , who fought his final battle for the soul of our nation at a time when so many nurses and doctors and care staff were on the front line of our health service to know he served in his county regiment gives us all in yorkshire a sense of capt toms courage and true yorkshire hard headed determination to see his walking for the nhs bear fruit we wont see his like again less we forget
