Peterson finished the season behind his teammate Fittipaldi, not ahead as mentioned here 22:55. The order was 1: Stewart, 2: Fittipaldi, 3: Peterson, 4: Cévert, 5: Revson. Tragically, Peterson, Cévert, and Revson died racing F1 cars, which proves pretty much how deadly the 1970s were.

Back then racing was exciting, dangerous, but the TV broadcasting was very sloppy. I have been following F1 since 1966 on magazines, 1972 on black and white TV coverage, and since 1973, in colour. We tend to forget back in the 1970s the camera stuck with the leader and kept with the leader for the entire race. The cars went from start to finish (always close to two hours) nonstop, and if there was a retirement, it rarely was shown. We tend to complain now, but the TV coverage is quite spectacular nowdays, with angles from everywhere, including inside the driver helmet, radio communication, clear graphics, and most importantly, no deaths on track. As a teenager I saw many drivers die on live television, and I pray Imola 1994 was the very last time. Imola 1994 was insane, because tragic accidents had become almost non existant by then (thanks mostly to sir Jackie Stewart's efforts), but during that horrible weekend, F1 lost two drivers on track.

The F1 management used to have to pay the broadcasters to show the race live on television at one point!! Crazy I know!! The broadcasters didn't really start paying F1 proper money to broadcast races live on television until the Japanese Grand Prix of 1976. Bernie Ecclestone held all the rights and when the TV companies realised they weren't able to broadcast the World Championship decider at Suzuka, that's when they started paying the big bucks.

Jackie Stewart walked away from the 73 F1 Grand Prix at Watkins Glen after his team mate died , already being named champion of the 73 season, never to compete in F1 again. So many deaths !!!

Cevert's fatal crash was the worst one, according to everyone who saw it. He was cut in half. Due to the way he crashed into the metal barrier. The 1970's was the worst decade for motor racing, in regards of fatalities and horrible crashes. In my opinion anyway.

The really annoying thing is that it took what happened to Roger Williamson for the safety measures to be upgraded at the Nurburgring. Marshals should have already been in fireproof overalls, considering how many fires there was when cars crashed back then. Marshals and medical personnel should have been not more than 30 seconds away from any incident on any part of the track anyway, as a matter of common sense.

Otra fórmula 1...que no volverá. ¿ Lo mejor de ahora ? Menos accidentes fatales. ¿ Los Grand Prix ? Mucho olor a fraudes marketineros.
