I truly believe if more people played instruments the world would be a much nicer place

Good comment! Exactly. If people actually learned how too play their instruments, the world would be better place to jam together. harmonizing octaves displaced in dimensional hyper space

Look at all the rock musicians that played instruments. Many of them were drug addicts, alcoholics, liars, cheats. Many OD'd. Many didn't treat their wives and children well...so I'd say it would take more than playing instruments to make the world a nicer place.

Great job doing this in standard, but I recommend people learn it in the alternative tuning, easier and sounds better with all the open string drones

A bit of trivia. It was written after George Harrison asked Page why he never wrote any songs in the key of C. The twist is the first three chords are the same as Harrison's song, "Something". Page has a sense of humor.

@@charleswillsonpeale5739 i thought Harrison told Bonham at a party, then Bonzo went and told the rest of the band, but whatever, details

@@MegaSilverBlood Exactly, it's all water under the bridge. We weren't there, we're simply going by rumors. The Rain Song is another LZ slow burn songs like Stairway. It has been said that Page wrote ‘The Rain Song’ in response to some comments made by George Harrison to John Bonham after Harrison attended one of their concerts. As Jimmy Page’s biographer, Brad Tolinski, recalled, Harrison complained that Bonham’s group was unable to write ballads. Jimmy Page allegedly said: “George was talking to Bonzo one evening and said, ‘The problem with you guys is that you never do ballads.’ I said, ‘I’ll give him a ballad,’ and I wrote ‘Rain Song, However, all four members are given writing credits, so it must have been a group effort. It sounds like to me the song was written piece meal over a long period of time just as Kashmir was.

Thank you for such a great demonstration in standard tuning for this placid classic dream by Jimmy Page. For those unaware, this song was created in DGCDCD which places neck stress on a guitar settled to standard tuning., but much easier to play. Great job!!!! The Bob Shop! for those like myself who do not own an arsenal of guitars.

Maybe I would attempt it in my 20’s when I could burn it up but now in my 50’s with back injuries and paralysis sometimes, I very rarely pick up my 6 string anymore but I still play Stairway to Heaven once in a while.Jimmy and Robert will never be replaced.Greatest band of all Time.

Me too, but the way I tried to play it almost broke my wrist. This seems much more doable this way. In the alternate tuning it is quite easy and sounds good but I am always afraid of tuning up the b-string to a c

Cannot thank you enough. Cannot thank Jimmy Page and Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin enough. This is one of those songs you listen to not all too often, because you like other more "pop" tunes that stir up a fraction of the emotion this song does. Listening to it again last night, the live version, the long outlook that Jimmy leaves a milli second for Jon Bohnam to hit every drum on his kit, before the last few mini chords to end it. In their parlance, just brilliant, outstanding, timeless.

@loiclejannou4751Ай бұрын
Just learnt it in original tuning. Spent a day on it because I agree, its not fun to change all guitar tuning for an hour and re-tune again... So playing it like you do is "convenient" but at the expense of sound and feel... and difficulty too at the end... Your version from 26'' to 38'' sound strange. Not the note of the original song and it really makes a big difference I think. The rest is pretty well done but man, definitely not technically easier ! I assume most guitar players have more than 1 guitar so dedicating 1 guitar only to learn that song for a while is not too much of a big deal, knowing that with the original tuning, it's quite easy to learn and play. Congrats anyway for that big effort to try to make it easy for all but if Led Zep changed the tuning in the first place, it's definitely for a reason.

Good job and similar to what I play. If you wrap your thumb over the neck to hold the C the ending's a lot easier. I also use the thumb to play bass notes under chords, D/B for example and the chordal run up in the bridge. Horses for courses though and not classical technique. But if using the thumb is okay for Jimi, who am I to argue? 😁
