I can't believe this fish tank is already a year old! Feels like only yesterday that me and@MDFishTanks were setting this tank up. This must be the oldest MD aquascape in existence, not many last beyond six months before he changes them 🤣🤣🤣
The Aquascape has grown and changed a fair amount over the year with a few additions in both fish and plants. I am getting to the point where I feel like I want to do something different with it but we shall see.

Algae pad looks like memory foam, magic eraser. I just used that to remove crayon from my entire hall way wall!

It looks similar but is different to the magic erasers I have. Also I would be worried if there were any chemicals on ones not designed for aquariums.

That was cool! I like to see how people maintain their planted tanks. I always wonder how you keep them looking so clean. Mine is a bit of a mess, I think I need to get a turkey baster or something so I can get the detritus from the crevices.

Hey Matt, would you ever consider doing a 'father fish' style aquarium with scuds, black worm in the substrate and other micro fauna to feed the fish? I've been planning on doing one myself. I know it's not really MD's style but I get the impression you're more open to that sort of thing?

These white sponges are also used cleaning stains from resin balljointed dolls, another hobby of mine. About as expensive to purchase, but doesn't require any feeding. ;)

@@FishShopMatt most of my dolls are around 60 cm. They are made in all sorts of sizes from a few cm to almost live size even. But those huge ones are exceptional. One of them may be fond of some of the fish I'm getting, cardinal tetras since he's Cardinal Richelieu from BBC's The Musketeers (2014). I've had the head custom made to look like the actor. I sometimes put up videos about my dolls. :)

I leave the heavy lifting in the next video hahaha. Carbon will remove some things you want. But used over a short period to clean up the water it's not too detrimental.

This stocking choice is just so cool. I’ve always had a real liking for tetras and weird little wild type livebearers, so I was all in on those when you stocked the tank, but you know what. Those festivus. I’ve known about this fish for so many years and I’ve always thought they were kind of neat, but not something I ever thought to put on my wish list. For some reason after seeing them in your home aquarium a couple of times, they’re definitely on there now. I’ve really been sleeping on those fin friends, haven’t I.

Love the plant on the left Matt, what is it? We always use white vinegar to clean our glass, smells like a chippy for a while 🍟but does a great job. Also helps remove calcium. As a thought, a hillstream loach would be a great help for the algae.

I think the plant you are talking about is a big clump of anubias nana. Hahaha this stuff smells way better than vinegar.

I normally treat before it goes in. Unless using a hose pipe, then I treat in the tank and turn the hose on very slow.

They feel different to be honest, I have magic erasers in the cupboard and they don't feel the same to me. Plus I would worry what chemicals or detergents are in ones not made for aquarium use.

So it’s ok to use carbon in a planted tank? I was under the impression not to use carbon in a planted tank. I’m new to the hobby.

You can use carbon in planted aquarium but I don't use it long term. It can absorb some things you want to keep in. But short term use to polish the water is fine.

Algae is plural, whereas 'alga' is singular...and it's pronounce ALGEE. You Brits are funny to hear. Some of your pronunciations are incredibly off. 🤣 just funnin with ya mate.
