1970s New York was a very different place to the bustling cosmopolitan tourist magnet we know now, and the neighbourhood that housed the Ravenite Social Club was a far cry from the gentrified boutique strip that exists today. Yet this series of interviews with the then-young artist clique who lived alongside one of the most prolific mafia networks offers a vivid insight into a city's colourful past.

Is interesting about John Gotti. Nobody saw him commit any serious crimes, but he was convicted on the rumors of other people and what tapes they made of his conversations. I guess it was enough to convict him in front of a judge. Go figure?

I have an associate who lives in the building right next to the Ravenite Social Club. The building where he was recorded by the feds. I use to walk by these guys all the time and they were serious characters. What stood out to me was how Big some of those guys were. John Gotti was a New York City fixture and Mulberry and Prince streets was His Street. Little Italy is now only about a few small blocks and those days are long gone, but, I’ll always have those memories of seeing “The Dapper Don” hanging out in front of The Ravenite Social Club.

I miss my old neighborhood 😢 I grew up in that neighborhood ( literally 2 blocks from the ravenite) and have a lot of fond memories. It's shame how gentrification destroyed my neighborhood. I'll never call my neighborhood Nolita, ever! Nolita is some bullshit some real estate asshole came up with in the late 90s. We never called it that. It hurts my soul seeing what the old neighborhood has become. I'll forever hate Guiliani and Bloomberg for destroying so many communities throughout the city.

They spoke about how everybody knew not to act a fool in those areas and the shop owners all looked out for the mob guys. I bet the mid 70's to mid 80's was a wild time to be a made man.
