I visited Little Italy for the first time 20 years ago and it was already being described as "shrunken" from the old days. Btw, Italians didn't "leave" Little Italy. They got "soft" abandoned it for pretentious suburban comfort in Long Island, Staten Island, and Jersey.

I’m from Scotland visited that restaurant for dinner then went to that exact bar for drinks was made so welcome love the New York Italians had an old local guy telling me some history and funny story’s. Funny thing I’ll never forget was the duke box only had Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin records.

Nick Raio looks like a younger version of Grand Pa (Al Lewis) from the “Munsters” (and “Car 54, Where Are You”). I’ve now learned that it is Lit’l Italy instead of Little Italy! By the way, the people, the business owners in Lit’l Italy, along Mulberry Street, they are great, accommodating, gracious people!!! Thanks, Nick & Vinnie

In Reply to Monica Movie star, So TRUE, I'm sad to say. Actually The Whole Lower East Side, Changed, Greedy Landlords made So many Hi Rise buildings, making it Extremely Overcrowded with people. The city was Never this Crowded, Never, that's why there's Zoning Laws, but, of course, Nobody Ever Talks about that. They'd Rather Complain.

According to my criminologist lecturer who has alot of experience in this field, he says the government and media make out like the mafia is more powerful than they seem whereas his expert opinion is that all the ATTENTION has been focused on Italian American mafia (for political reasons) therefore other ethnic groups are largely unnoticed in terms of crime... BUT doesn't mean they're not just as powerful or even more powerful!

I dated a girl from the 4th ward in my teens and early 20's back in the late 70's this was still an off limits Italian Neighborhood as was the 4th. I was back one time around 2008 I thought I was in a sort of LCN Disney!! I've never been back nor do I wish to ever go back!! Funny how are once simple but harsh lifestyle was once mocked by so many has now become a fashion spot and place to be seen!! Oh the times!!

My grandad rubs his hands and I always remember that as a kid. and flies like a boss when you piss him off. My grandad at seventy got knicked, for punching a train attendent out and put him on house arrest. Legend....all I have to say my grandad is a ledge.
