Partners in Slime acknowledged Vigo (probably taking place after this comic and placing it between Real Ghostbusters and Slimer! & the Real Ghostbusters) and in Extreme Ghostbusters "Back in the Saddle" Venkman says he's pitched an idea for a third movie, but is holding out for Brad Pitt to play him.

Fun fact: Lorenzo Music voiced Peter Venkman (Bill Murray's character in the film) in The Real Ghostbusters, originally, but is most well known for his portrayal of Garfield in the TV specials and cartoon series. In turn, when they made live-action adaptations of Garfield (complete with god-awful CGI), they tapped Bill Murray to play the famous cat (who apparently agreed because he thought the first film was written by Joel Coen, of the Coen Brothers, rather than Joel Cohen, whoops).

Regarding the "blatant sex joke in a children's comic"-comment: Have you ever seen the scene of Rocko's Modern Life where Heffer gets "milked", or the scene in Animaniacs where they make a pun about finger prints/Prince, or... Well, to cut it short: there are a *lot* of innuendos or "obvious" sex jokes in good kids media that goes over children's heads.

If I remember correctly, the 2009(?) Ghostbusters video game makes it clear that ghost activity increases in response to the appearance of a powerful mystical/cosmic being. May have to check that though.

Of all the Ghostbusters characters Peter was always my favorite, probably because of his dry, sarcastic sense of humor. Which makes some of the character butchering in this comic a real shame because the cartoon and its comic did A LOT to develop Peter's character and explain why he is the way he is. It goes into his history with Ray and Egon, he and Egon were actually the first GBs to meet, his softer side for little kids and old women, his relationship with Slimer, and his difficult relationship with his deadbeat, con-artist father. Oh and another thing revealed in the comics, he and Dana don't end up together, even after this film. It's explained in the IDW comics that Peter's career as a GB put him in the public eye and that put pressure the his and Dana's relationship. Eventually, he decided that his didn't want both Dana and Oscar to have deal with his high-stress life and ended the relationship. He still sorta stayed in Oscar's life though, occasionally sending him postcards and gifts.

Oh, god, the articulated skull jaw! Matching that to the "Ah!" gasp was probably the scariest part of the video. I know you do these things on a tight budget so a lot of things are going to look like cheap props - Pollo, the Ghostbusters gear, the Pokeball. It comes with the territory and I completely understand it. When I first saw the skull creature, that it looked like a cheap Halloween mask and a robe. Not when it opened its mouth, however. That took that thing from looking like a costume to actually scary. Nicely done!

Personally I like both the original ghostbusters and ghostbusters 2 equally :)

Didn't think that a comic adaptation of Ghostbusters II would be involved but with The Real Ghostbusters. Okay, I like it. And they should have added the line when the Ghostbusters met the Mayor with Ray saying, "Mr. Mayor. We're here tonight because a psychomagnotheric slime flow of immense proportions is building up beneath the city." Ghostbusters II is very underrated... most underrated sequel ever. For what it's worth, it's very well done.

Yeah. I really like Ghostbusters 2 also. It is honestly overhatted. Sure it's not as good as the first but I still enjoyed it.

Well thanks for reminding me of that bloody smile in the bathtub! Seeing it on TV once and not knowing what movie it was from, I was quite honestly terrified of it as a kid. Lord, it still manages to send a shiver down my spine. Ugh. I also remember remembering it as red and resembling a dolphin to me. Imagine being afraid of a dolphin made of blood attacking you every time you're filling a tub.

Hey, Linkara, I know this is four years too late, but this Halloween storyline is one of your best. Nice blend of light-hearted spooky fun with legitimately creepy moments. You and Viga looked like such an awesome battle couple fighting off the ghosts. If Viga does make more cameos in the future, is she going to have her own signature weapon? Perhaps a cannon that shoots pony plushies or some oversized anime sword?

I never really cared for Dave Coulier's Veinkman. He just was never as quick to the punchline as Bill Murray was.

Linkara's Vigo needs to use bathroom joke is funny especially when you consider in the game during one of Vigo's random quotes, he notes to the Rookie (player character) he should have put a bathroom in this thing, referring to the painting which according to the official player's guide acts as an inter-dimensional prison for him following the events of Ghostbusters II which is why it is displayed inside the Firehouse! Also the game reinforces the idea that the painting was a self portrait! The game also has Vigo make predictions of various evils to come as the game is set in 1991 but came out in 2009, with said evils being allusions to higher gas prices, George W. Bush being elected twice, and famous athletes juicing on steroids (though thankfully they were smart enough to have him make no allusions to 9/11 attacks as that would have been as tasteless as Frank Miller's Holy Terror)!

Arbitrary Skepticism - A character in a world where strange things happened finds it difficult to believe in another strange thing. 2. Flat Earth Atheist - In a world where it is proven on many levels that gods exist and personally created the cosmos, a couple people will flat-out disbelieve these facts. Personally, I've found both of these tropes to be annoying and stupid. I mean, I could understand a little skepticism if it wasn't an everyday thing and they were seeing these strange and supernatural things for the first time, but when they see it ALL the time and STILL don't believe, then it gets ridiculous. But considering what you pointed out, I guess it's not so far fetched, but I still think it's stupid.

Just rewatched Ghostbusters 2, and from a new perspective I can see why you'd like it better then the first. Especially since I haven't watched it for a while. Also in last year's Halloween reviews, about that monster that Erin spoke of, is that the major villain for the Sleepwalker story arc? Great to see Will Wolfgram return as Jaeris if only for another week

I like the team up of the Ghostbusters II and the 2016 equipment being badass.

I do hate hitting the reset button in sequels, but Ghostbusters 2 is the rare occasion where it works. And I totally agree with you on the excuse for the reset button; people are stupid. I also think it's better-it's scarier, the stakes were higher, the villain is stronger, Winston is a bigger part of the plot, Peter finally gets an arc to become a better person and the romance between him and Dana is much better. Yeah, the statue of Liberty rampaging around is silly, but so is a Marshmallow Man being the form of the end of the world. The mood slime looks silly, but the idea of something causing a feedback loop of hatred is pretty scary when you actually think about it. I do prefer the Egon-Janine subplot over Louis-Janine, but it was done pretty well. It's funny-we're at total opposites about the Force Awakens but totally on the same level on Ghostbusters 2. It's almost like opinions aren't absolutes. I actually thought the 2016 reboot was...okay. It wasnt' as good as 1 or 2 but it was a fun time in the theater and a nice little tribute. I didn't hate it and it felt like a Ghostbusters movie to me. I always found it interesting that Dana wasn't as badly effected by the mood slime. I suspect being possessed by Zuul might have given her a little bit of immunity. Gonna say it: Lewis does a better Peter Venkman than Dave Coulier I hope you review more of these Ghostbusters comics as a crossover with Phelan.

I would argue that the biggest issue with Ghost Busters II would be that the movie begins with the whole town basically forgetting that the Ghost Busters friggin' saved the world in the previous movie. Like, how do you go from saviors of humanity to awkward party performers?

You know, Ghostbusters II is the first movie of the pair I saw actually. It's what got me interested in Ghostbusters in general(loved the animated show as a kid and had the toys). Saw the first movie after the first, I enjoy'em both.

I remember seeing GB 2 in the theater as a kid, and being scared at some scenes.

About time somebody gave a positive shout to GBII. Good stuff.

When the skull monster moved its jaw saying, "Their... you... are"... man you are so good at building suspense.

A few things. 1: WHOOOO JAERIS IS BACK!!! XD HELL YEAH! 2: The creature (The Familiar? I can't recall if it's been identified yet) looks awesome, nice work on the effects both CG and practical dude. 3: So I wonder what The Mobile Emitter will be used for this time (and if it will have Holokara go psycho again) 4: Soggies May Rule.

I feel Vigo's color lets the character down in the cominc. He just looks too bright. His browned armor from the movie helps to ad that extra layer of menace. Speaking of Character design, Viga rocks the 2016 Ghost Buster look better than the movie stars. I felt they should have gone for vertical racing stripes for the movie girls to emphasize the geekiness and energy they were meant to have. The horizontal orange stripes on the other hand emphasize Viga's massive size and immovable, unbreakable nature, and were as natural a choice as the silly hat. I feel a little let down that the villains were just internet trolls, but we do need to keep Mechakara dead for a while, and the new monster looks rather imposing. Looking forward to Secret Origins Month.

I agree with your reasoning for Ghostbusters II being the better movie, especially with regards to Vigo. I watched the first film a couple of times as a kid, yet I couldn't remember Gozer from back then. I watched the second film once as a kid, and I was able to remember Vigo no problem thanks to his ominous presence throughout the whole film. It's a bit of a shame that so many people have arbitrarily gone out of their way to insist that it's a horrible film when really, they couldn't be farther from the truth.

I've felt the same way about liking Ghostbusters 2 more than the original but have never been able to articulate it before. The arguments for it in the introduction were great.

15:20 This made me think of one of my favourite reveals of Ghostbusters Afterlife and why I hope there will be a sequel: Winston has become a successful and wealthy businessman, and it's teased that he now wants to use his wealth to fund the new generation of Ghostbusters. I just thought that was a neat development for his character, who joined the team as the only guy without a doctorate and just a normal, down to earth working class dude who was looking for a job.

Even though I don't like the second movie It does have one of my all time favourite movie lines: "Sometimes Shit Happens, Someone's gotta deal with it, and who you gonna call?"

Please do the Power Rangers comic series Linkara at some point. And also, Power Rangers/Justice League crossover coming January. Tell us what you think.

Came back to this review after watching “Ghostbusters After Life”. They nailed the fact that Ray is still maintaining his shop. With the big twist that Winston is now taking a Bigger role with in the franchise! Even better, I’m looking forward to seeing more of Winston pushing the Ghostbusters as an Interprise to bust ghosts! Especially if they can do it around the world!

gozer did't summon stay puft, he is the giant stay puft at the end. he had the ghostbuster choose its new form (it changes each time he visits earth, the weird woman was just his previous form before the new decision) and ray unwittingly chose stay puft.

I love Ghostbusters 2 as well. Honestly my only even quasi-complaint about is was... that they even bothered keeping Slimer around. I get why of course. Both meta reasons of the popularity of The Real Ghostbusters, and also that Slimer was said to be a standin for their friend John Belushi. And yeah, like you Linkara I never got the complaint that they're the same movies. Because outside of like the most tortured, twisted, vague interpretations... they're kinda not. Like saying "they both get arrested at some point", even though the circumstances and point in the story about them are entirely different.

Great Halloween review! The comic adaption doesn't look perfect, but still looks like a lot of fun... I also love Ghostbusters II (1989). The first one is still the best in my opinion, but they're both great movies for me. Personally, I do think the whole "thinking the Ghostbusters were frauds" thing was stupid, but the rest of the film is so incredible, I let that shit slide... A lot of my love for the second film is owed to the fact that it was the only Ghostbusters movie I owned. So I've actually the second one more than the first film. I think it made me appreciate it more... I love how the storyline is going. It was so surprising and awesome to see Jaeris show up! And if I may so so Lewis, you and Viga make some pretty badass Ghostbusters!
