He’s largely just based around the Dr. Strangelove character who himself is inspired by the men mentioned in the video The OG crew were all just stereotypes of their respective nations and Richthofen being German got the mad scientist trope

There was somebody named, Manfred Von Richthofen, and he was in the Nazi military, he shot down 80 enemy planes. He was killed in 1918 (the origins time place). He was killed by a captain by blinding the pilot with the Sun, causing him to crash. In Origins, you might see a red plane flying with weird symbols on it, that's the Red Baron Plane. So I'm thinking that Treyarch changed "Manfred" into "Edward" and took the "h" out of "Richthofen"!!! Like if you agree!!!

I did a research paper on Mengele in the 9th grade. While I was researching, I couldn't stop thinking about Richtofen and how he also did sick, twisted experiments. I honestly would have been shocked if you didn't mention Mengele in this video.

Just an FYI - the surname "Richtofen" denotes a member of a prominent German aristocratic family - the most famous being Manfred, known as the Red Baron, who I believe is featured or to whom is at least alluded in "Little Lost Girl" of BO2 Zombies Origins Map - although there is no actual famous scientist von Richtofen. However, the weight that the name carries is worth mentioning - why choose to make a fictional character of this surname as opposed to another one? I believe it is yet another allusion to an aristocratic lineage, many members of whom participated in both world wars in tremendous ways.
