Also, English is not my main language, so, even if I'm somewhat good at it, the captions really help me understand some words at times. I'm pretty sure way more people are really grateful for those English captions. =)

It is because of chinese language, I think. Also in Italian you can refer to a 9-zero number to actially mean a 9-digit number, and therefore ask “how many zeroes” to actually mean digits.

In French, our word for "digit" is "chiffre" which comes from the Arabic word for "zero"

Nezumi Omg! I think we have very similar concept. In my country (Taiwan) most of us were usually given Western “nicknames” in the English class in primary school. If people study abroad or just happen to live in an English speaking country, some people choose to keep the Western name while others choose to introduce their original name. I used to introduce my “English name” a long time ago but now I introduce the name my mother gave me, because I think I don’t have to change the name just for people’s convenience. And I think keeping the name from my mother is important when I travel very, very far to study. I really enjoy the conversation here in the comment thread! And I guess once you get closer to your friends, out of curiosity and the intention to know them better, it’s nothing bad to ask if they have a name of their parents’ language! 😊
