I was at McDonald's the other day and this lady had a little dog with her. Well, little dog started barking at me. So, I said hi to him and just started talking to him. He just wanted pets. Zoey, my fur baby, also barks at people sometimes, but she is literally just saying, "Hey, I'm here! Come give me pets!" So, a lot of times when dogs bark at you, they just want to say hi and get your attention. However, you should definitely not approach a dog that is barking AND growling, with it's tail stiff and the fur on its back standing up. Generally, though, a high pitched bork just means, "I want your attention! Come give me pets!"

Dogs have been in my life since I was a young child. Almost every dog I've ever had, and have, has had their own personality. Their individual behaviors at any time must be understood in the context of what is happening at that moment. My 130 lb chocolate lab will bark at me for a variety of reasons, all of which are his attempts to communicate with me. I understand him 99% of the time. I talk to him exactly as I would talk to a four year old child, and he understands me 100% of the time. (Guess he's smarter than I am! 🤣) I give him a slice of provolone cheese every night after his evening yard time. He loves his treat. Then, I tell him it's time to go upstairs, it's bedtime. He responds by stomping his feet, each time more energetically, defiantly, refusing to come. Instead, he stands at the fridge and paws at it and barks while staring at me! He wants another slice of provolone! We do this song and dance every night 🤣 And every night, he convinces me that if I want him to obey, I must give him that 2nd slice of cheese! (He's trained me well!) So, here's my point. I take him to the vet twice a year for check-ups. The vet gives him ONE treat after the exam and pets him, telling him he's a good boy and can go home now. LOL Nope. My chocolate lab stares at the vet, stomps his feet, and barks! Well, the first time this happened, the vet nearly wet his pants🤣🤣🤣 Once I explained what my lab was actually communicating, the vet then gave him a 2nd treat and all was right with the world again. But, if an intruder came onto our property, my lab would stare him down, stomp his feet and bark. Likely it wouldn't be about demanding cheese! It's all about the context of the situation, as any dog guardian knows.

I was walking to the grocery store to buy some cider while I was in a meet up with my long distance friends in cottage. There was a guard dog that was without a leash or owner with red band on its neck. It seemed to be guarding property that it was circling about. I was walking on other side of the street and realized that the dog clearly did not want me to walk near the property since it was staring intently. I understood it and let it in peace as it walked down to the ditch.

I had a big Anatolian /German Shepherd mix that sat a stared at me. But I think it was because of his guardian instincts. It wasn't until I'd become very ill and needed his help to get around, that he started staring at me. I think he was *imprinting* me on himself - as his flock!

I have an Australian cattle dog... So she is often wiggles the wag, but has a bob-tail, it's MUCH more difficult to grok what's going on with her. I have to read her other body language to figure out what's going on with her. I also volunteer at a feral wolf hybrid sanctuary/rescue because people are crap and try to breed them and make money of of selling them. Most states don't have laws or regulations regarding breeding not domestic or hybrid wolf coyo-dogs, unfortunately. Currently, there is only one domesticated pack... And some are so feral they won't even take the cookie or approach you if you try to make any eye contact. Perfect for people who are possibly on the autism spectrum though...?!

When brother's dogs stare at one of us. They usually want something. Like attention, treats or to go outside. But 9 times out of 10 they just want attention. If they don't get it then one will bark or grumble until you pay attention to her. And the other will stand on her hind legs and lean on you to get the attention she seeks.

Everyone making jokes and all, but this video is crammed with GREAT KNOWLEDGEABLE FACTS that even I never knew and I'm a huge DOG LOVER!!! Some of these things my dog does and some of these things i can't be completely sure, BUT I'm glad that this video exists to make us more aware of certain habits and behaviors. I cant be too sure, i need to watch a little more and i know she has had a hard past, but i noticed (or think that i notice) her yawning a lot which according to this video, means she is more fearful. That is kind of sad considering that she does it when people are yelling or she does it when I'm in a room seperate with her and she did something wrong as if she is remembering her past and someone did something to her wrong when and if she did something wrong. If that is true, it's kind of sad and I'm going to watch out more for it. Or at least try to remember to do it (on top of all we are going through) so i can work through it with her more and show her she doesn't have to be afraid. She has had a lot of trauma in her past life so that's probably why she does it. I love my dog with all my heart though so i don't want her to be scared or fearful in anyway. Our 3 YO Border will stare unrelenting when he wants something. Most often at times that he needs to 'go'. He mostly lives outside, has no fences but won't leave without permission (good boy) and prefers to do his business around a common over the road. Yes we bag it. I liken the behavior to a child pre age of reasoning (which is around 7YO) that thinks, maybe if I try really, really hard I can will this into action. It works, we know the finite possibilities and ask him, he nearly breaks his neck with the head tilt when you get it right. really cute.
