Two years ago, if you told me the Canucks would be atop the Pacific Division half way through the season, I'd have you checked into a mental health facility. Turns out, I would have been the crazy one for doubting Jim Rutherford and his right-hand man, Patrik Allvin.
In this video, I make my case as to why pro-scouting is the main reason for the Canuck's turnaround. As always, if you enjoyed the video, please like and subscribe.

What should Chef Allvin cook up next? A top 4 defenseman? Top 6 winger? Another matchup center?

Top for stay at home D or gritty, big, veteran bottom 6, preferably a centre. I’d rather have the D because those are so important in the playoffs, but another gritty forward who can take draws works too.

Hey. An intelligent, thoughtful analysis. Being a Canuck fan from their inception (and throughout all the heart breaks) this current management system seems to be paying dividends. Mike Gillis and his team came close, but I like this quieter, more methodical approach. Kudos for your even tone of presentation. Keep going, friend! You've earned a new subscriber. 🙂

Also need to mention our coaching staff. Toccet has won cups and knows what to do. As well as defensive legends like Adam fotte sergie gonchar (probably butchard the names), forward legends like the sedin twins and arguable the best goalie coach in Ian Clark.

I agree 100 percent! But I didn’t talk about the coaching staff in this video because I really wanted to focus on management, specifically Allvin. At the end of the day, you can only coach the players you’re given, and Allvin has provided Tocchet with a solid roster.

The farm team has been looking better too. All good signs. The only concern I have for the Canucks is a relatively weaker prospect pool.

When you compare them it gets really embarrassing for Benning
@TheBluelineHockey

He was an embarrassment of a GM, from his lack of vision, inability to manage contracts, unprofessionalism (didn't keep in touch with Tanev's camp), poor scouting, terrible draft record, fostering a culture of yesmen, I mean I can go on for days. The fact he had a job for 8 seasons is mind-boggling.

Honestly, not a lot (other than Hughes' INSANE pace) has changed this season. The biggest reason Vancouver has turned it around is because of the improvement to their defense. Guys like Cole and Soucy can not, and should not be understated.

I see what you’re saying but the turnaround in D and restructuring of the bottom 6 is a lot if you quantify it. Blueger, Suter, Lafferty, Cole, Zadorov, Soucy, Hronek and DeSmith accounts for a 3rd of new faces to this years lineup vs last seasons. I would say that’s a lot imo

I’ve slowly let go of my anger at them not getting Bedard because we didn’t have cap space for him and would have had to trade away assets like Brock Boeser which would have been a mistake. Instead, Bedard went to the Blackhawks who were so desperate to surround Bedard with experience that they got Hall and Perry. This allowed the Canucks to take advantage of some good luck when Hall was gone for the season and Perry was just gone. This allowed the Canucks to dump Anthony Beauvillier’s contract on a desperate Hawks which gave them both a draft pick and the cap space to get Zadorov. They’ve done well since then.

@@debuthunter5389 More like not tanking for Bedard. He’s a highly touted rookie. And Jim Benning kept spending to the cap. Rookie or not, Canucks cap situation sucks.

@@September2004 - Benning was no good. In terms of tanking I think it's a ridiculous thing to do. It burns culture, it makes players not want to be there, makes fans not show up, and the draft lottery doesn't guarantee anything anyways.
@September2004
@September2004 5 ай бұрын
@@debuthunter5389 I hear this phrase about ‘culture’ a lot. Somehow, it hasn’t failed the Penguins who have managed to draft Lemieux, Jagr, Fleury, Malkin and Crosby. And this is the team that Allvin, Rutherford and a Tocchet won 2 Cups with so they of all people should know! And we don’t have to intentionally tank. Just don’t fire Boudreau until the end of the season. What did all those wins get us? We missed the playoffs and didn’t get a high draft pick. In fact, we missed drafting Bedard by one ping pong ball. Something that will haunt this team for decades if Bedard ends up winning Cups with Hawks and we don’t. We even had the fight guy to tank with. Not only did we have all these shocks leads that we lost but he was popular. We could’ve ridden him out until the end of the year and be in a better draft position. They hired Tocchet in January so that he can figure out what the Canucks need during the last part of the season. I can buy that, since Allvin has made lots of shrewd moves.
