*WARNING - SOME VIEWERS MAY FIND THE TOPIC DISCUSSED AND THE FOOTAGE SHOWN IN THIS VIDEO, UPSETTING. SORRY*
The subject of why I left KZfaq for Vimeo On Demand has raged continuously for the past 7 months, since I left - and in actuality, shows no sign of losing momentum. In fact the discussion and comments have now spilled over onto other narrowboat KZfaq channels.
Here then is the main reason (among several others) as to why I left KZfaq and moved my Narrowboat Travel videos over to Pay Per View.
P.S. I never actually 'left' KZfaq. Only my canal journey videos went over to Vimeo.
The link to Robbie Cummings excellent boat tour video of Aslan, is here on KZfaq • Vintage narrowboat tour
--------------------
If you'd like to contribute to my channel and future videos, then I have a PayPal Me page. Cheers, www.paypal.com/paypalme/kevin...
All 6 seasons of Travels By Narrowboat are available to stream on Amazon Prime, with Season 7 here on KZfaq.

Yes the police were next to useless. 2 WPC's. In their defense, it was New Year and I was probably the 10,000's incident they had investigated. As far as they were concerned, I was just another drunk reveler. It wasn't until they took me to the hospital and saw my head and face that they even took what I was saying seriously. All this buff you hear about victim support, blah blah blah. It's just that - buff.

Thanks for the shoutout Kev, and well done once again for talking about such a traumatic experience (the attack, not me coming round to film the boat tour). Such a sad and shocking story! you're right, the world is knackered. We have realised that by the sights we have seen travelling into London. However, don't get disheartened, there are still a lot of good people out there. It was through watching your videos along with Robbie Cummings and 'Cruising the Cut' that started us out on our own narrowboat journey. You are bringing a lot of people a lot of pleasure, so just keep going. Fran and Rich

Will do guys. My opinion at the time about the world being knackered has all but changed now. It's a very small minority that ruin it for the rest of us. Rest assured, the videos are proceeding if anything, with even more gusto and determination.

This is the main reason i never go out to any pubs on new years eve. So many horror stories of unprovoked attacks from local wasters. Those guys that did that to you are for sure not going to achieve half of what you have in their sad little lives. So glad you have kept going. You have been a huge inspiration to myself & many others that have seen your videos. We have spoken before & i am very close to getting my boat to live aboard. This is thanks to the likes of yourself.. Robbie Cummings, David Johns, Ben & Emelie, Dan Brown & several others. We are hoping to soon join your family of you tubers & document our adventures in the near future. Please don't ever feel alone. You have a lot more support than you realise. I for one would be honoured to be your friend & I hope to meet you in future.

That took some balls my friend. Not an easy subject to talk about, more so videoing it. Didn't depress me at all. Just got my blood boiling. WTF. I feel for you Kev. You've done a fantastic thing here, spitting it all out. I hope actually that it was somewhat cathartic for you at the same time. Massive well done to the ex as well.....what a true angel. Best thing.....you didn't give in. Marina, 4 months, readjust, decision made, forward march/ boating. Brilliant. I won't bore you with my tale/saga/incident......long and short of it......someone tried, (and we later found out who) firebombed a pub I was running years and years ago. It's still with me today. As the months and years go by, it's hold weakens, and you adjust your life accordingly, not letting the Bar.....ds drag you down. Proud of you Kev.......

Kevin, discovered you on Amazon Prime via a friend's recommendation. I have been binge watching a quite bit and was into Season 3, I think, when you reported the attack. So glad you have recovered (physically at least) and still at it. Your videos are brilliant. You have a knack for perfect editing what is a very slow ride. You don't over comment like a travelogue, but just take us along on your journeys. So thankful for that! I have visited the UK many times, mostly the rural areas, for walking and pub visits. Maybe my son and I were lucky, but we had no troubles, even in the "spit and sawdust" places. No matter where, however, criminal and violent people exist. It is a damn shame it happened on that New Year's Eve to you. With Amazon Prime Video, your loyal band must be ever growing. Good work, gent.

So sorry to hear about your experience, Kevin. And thank you for your videos - I absolutely love them, especially now I've found out how to access vimeo on my TV. Much better than watching on a phone screen! There was a 1960s TV show called Out of Town. Presenter was Jack Hargreaves. It must have been repeated in the late 70s/80s because I remember watching it as a child. Your videos give me the same feeling as that show. You're capturing a time and a way of life. And for your viewers there's something calming and reassuring - an inner peace - that comes with that.

Kevin, as I watched this I got the feeling that making this video was therapeutic for you. I can't imagine going through what you did on that New Year's eve. No one should ever be subjected to that kind of violence. The wounds heal but the trauma lingers. Hopefully time will heal the trauma as well. I'm glad that you are working through it all. I also want to say that it sounds like your ex-wife is a good and decent person. Not all ex's would have been willing to step in to assist as she did. How can the Police say they regarded it as attempted murder then not pursue it? They should ALWAYS pursue such monstrous crimes with or without the victims co-operation. Boot prints, DNA, witnesses and suspects from the pub, these scumbags would almost certainly have records of violent crime, plenty for the Police to be getting on with. Proper sentencing is whats needed without political interference, and something like sentence doubling. Every time you go and commit a similar crime you can be sure that the starting point will be double your previous sentence. WHICH WILL BE SERVED IN FULL.

I'm so sorry I only now got to see this video, Kev. I was devastated to hear what happened to you. You and Robbie are my favourite canal boaters by far, and to hear about the trauma you suffered brought me to tears. I'm happy that since then you have had much better experiences. I have been enjoying your videos and of course getting rather envious, since I'm stuck in Australia when I would have given my eye teeth to be able to do what you do. May you never experience anything like that again.

Lost for words to be honest. Watched with a sick feeling in my stomach all the way through. So glad you are through it and can see life through better eyes now. As you say: " Forward, ever forward Kevin." " Bask in your own excellence." You bring such joy into our home. We, yes! were deepley shocked that anyone could ever do such a thing to you, our lad ( yes ), one of few peole that just lifts our souls. WE have always been in tune with the heaviness of your former life, before the boat. We can sense this. We watch as you grow ever more comfortable with boat life ( maybe Llangollen was the exception - my home town. yes! " stay busy" when crossing the aquaduct) How you have grown into such a wonderful story teller...showing us places we will never see...cooking on your boat ( careful with the Claret) but just the inviting of us, two old retirees, into your life. Foward Kevin - ever forward as you say. What a good and dear person you are. In light and love. You are loved Mate. Stay safe. Foward. Tony & Deni. Cathedral City, California. USA

Hi, only recently found your narrow boat journeys and enjoy them such a lot. I felt very upset for you listening to your New Years Eve attack, very brave of you to talk about it. Glad you had the courage to continue with you journeys. I have lost two family members from violence so I understand how hard your physical and mental rehabilitation must have been. Thank you so much showing how lovely our country is.

I'm so very sorry this happened to you Kevin. Very thankful you're okay and I can't imagine the damage this does to a persons spirit, but especially physically at that time, and yet you've STILL carried forward. That's real strength of character. It's a shame that this kind of hate exists. It certainly is not deserving. Thank you for making my day much better through your videos.

I am just sickened & shocked by what happened to you !! Your wife sounds like a lovely lady I was so happy to hear she was able to help you. I wish you a speedy recovery and many more videos of your cruises on these historic canals. Your videos have given my husband and myself such pleasure the way you present your life on the canals makes us feel we are there also. We have enjoyed your experience in cruising as well as your cooking recipes! Thank you again for sharing your beautiful adventure!

Kevin, if you can remember, prior to you, probably a day or so, before you got to the lift bridge where you got some abuse, I knocked on your boat to say hello. I am absolutely dismayed the at the way you have been treated, not only by those thugs but also by the local Police who assumed you where drunk. Wigan, is and always has been a hard place but the majority of people are the salt of the earth, unfortunately, you where in the wrong place at the wrong bloody time which does destroy your faith in people. Your synopsis in ever finding these thugs is probably correct but I personally hope that they rot in hell. You take care and enjoy the rest of your journey around the canal network. If your ever in this area again, please get in touch if you need any assistance. Brian

Hi from Seattle...wanted to let you know I've thoroughly enjoyed your videos, everything about them. And yes, my house gets cold if I don't turn on the heat. I found you on Amazon Prime a couple of weeks ago and couldn't stop watching. Exactly a year ago I finished a 10-week vacation in the UK as my husband and I attempted a rental car and AirBnB excursion from Oban down to New Forest, spending our days sightseeing and wondering what to make for supper each day. Your videos brought back to me exactly that joy of discovery and of slowing down to enjoy life. Since getting back to our "real" life I've wondered how to recapture that feeling to no avail, until finding your delightful videos. Thank you for sharing your experience, and for the skill you bring to the photography, editing and storytelling. And to top it off, you show us recipes! Wishing you the best, and safe travels.

I only discovered your videos on Amazon Prime a few days ago and have been binge watching them. You are such a sweet bloke. I don't have a boat yet but you are a massive inspiration to me and are driving my will to get my first boat when I can eventually afford it. Don't let the negativity in this world discourage you. There are more good people in this world than bad idiots. Unfortunately it only takes one bad experience to break a person. I have been verbally assaulted twice now outside my property, had the police out twice and have had to install CCTV camera's. Its a horrible experience but nothing compared to what you have had to endure. Always remember that we all LOVE your video's and we are always with you as kindred spirits 🙂

I have no words. That is horrible. I’m very sorry for what you have gone through, Kevin. I hope you are healing up well. I know that can be a long process, having gone through some stuff myself. I think it’s safe to say that there is still plenty of us on KZfaq that understand your reasoning and support you regardless. Really, I don’t think you needed to explain yourself. It’s your decision and yours alone. Personally I have every intention of finding your Vimeo channel, but funds are still lacking, so... It gives me a smile when I see you pop up here from time to time. I know I will come away with a good positive message. Don’t let the shit in this world get you down, mate. Life is simply too short for that. Even in my relatively few years I’ve learned that you find the good things and hold on to them for dear life. I hope to see you again soon. God bless.

This was definitely hard to watch, but only because through watching your show, I and countless others have grown to truly care about you. I’m so glad you had someone to come and care for you for a few days. That’s just priceless especially in times like what you went through. I believe in karma, so to the people who attacked you, verbally abused you and stole from you... you can’t do that to people and have it not come back to you. I have such respect you got up and kept going. If you can get through that, you can do anything.

Kevin, I am utterly shocked and horrified at your story. Also uplifted by your courage in being prepared to tell it. We (my wife, the dog and I) were outside "The Moorings" at Crick on the 24th of October when you stopped for a hot drink and a snack. I thought of saying hello but didn't want to bother you. Wish I had now. Good on the ex for coming to the rescue!

My boyfriend and I have been enjoying your videos here in America with dinner since we discovered them and followed you to Vimeo (which seemed a really smart move to us since we wanted you to be able to afford to make the videos we love)-that signature sound of the Petterson-McClaren chuff chuffing always stirs a sense of pleasant anticipation because no matter how much or how little happens, the trip is worth taking because you’re the skipper. And the videographer. As much as we like other narrowboat channels, we always come back to you with a sigh of contentment. Thanks to all the kind and good people, especially your ex, who came to your rescue, and that argues for the quality of person you are as well. I’d agree with those who talk about the world being broken but there have always been people controlled by violence and rage and petty meanness. I don’t think that’s new. But you are! Do not let anyone or anything take the canal and your indie project from you (and from us).

I came across your films by pure chance while scrolling through Amazon Prime. I was so engrossed in them that I watched every series in the space of 3 days, absolutely fantastic with top notch editing. Now to learn this I actually feel physically sick, what cowardly lowlifes! No one could blame to for chucking the boating into touch, but I so hope you don't, we would all lose if you did. We followed your journey from Crick and seemed plain (to me anyway) that your spirit was rising daily making it a joy to watch. I now understand that towards the end of the last season it seemed that you wanted the adventure to come to a close (Hope I'm wrong) Good luck in your next venture :)

There are no words ... You sir should be commended for sharing such a horrific a vile moment in your life. I know what it's like to be attacked and beaten. I've never really spoken about it. I was a younger man back then but it still lives with me. It made me stronger in the end but I still find myself hyper aware of my surroundings. But I have children now and although I teach them to stay vigilant I don't pass on my fears. Perhaps you can build a network of contact numbers as you travel through areas. If your around the West Midlands feel free to give me a shout should you need anything. Even if it's a spare set of strings for a guitar. All the best fella.
