Well, now they are bringing a baby into this world together, so with that added perplexity to the mix, I hope John can remain successful in his sobriety. I wonder if John felt like perhaps he’d caused irreparable harm to his marriage when Anna, his then wife (and probably is still legally actually, I’m guessing the ink may not quite be dry on the papers but, it happened) when she had to witness and “live through” the crazy roller coaster that led to him going to rehab. I’m guessing that perhaps he feels that life with someone new is a fresh start-ideally, rehab therapists I believe would say it’s best not to go into a new dating relationship during one’s first year of sobriety- but again, things happen. I’m saddened because I believe Anna Tindler WANTED and was fully expecting her Husband to return to HER after rehab (she only kicked him out because He Was Using, and she wanted him To Get Help- she wasn’t divorcing him) but, after sobriety John chose a new, a different path with a new person. Going back to Anna would have been the more difficult choice as repairs and reconciliation and amends would have been needed.

I absolutely agree. Clearly John is working through some things and has not been at his best, but I have lost a lot of respect for him re: the way he handled his new relationship and baby so publicly so soon after announcing his divorce.

A drug addict and alcoholic has a self loathing which is why they abuse themselves and don't care. If you can't love yourself you sure as hell can't love anyone else. If Olivia truly loved John she would have stayed friends with him and helped him through his first year of being clean and also allowed the divorce to be finalized. Then after all that and John was on firm footing they could have started slowly dating. Olivia is old and was desperate for a baby. I think it's a bad relationship for Mulaney. Tbh I think she kept interjecting herself where she didn't belong and worked hard to get better acquainted and then dug in at his weakest moment.
