Two F1 drivers, same car, same track, both driving as hard as they know how. But one is turning faster laps. Is that driver simply better? Not necessarily. Every once in a while, a car-and-driver combo will be slow because of a mismatch between them. At first glance, the reasons can be mysterious, impossible to see, hard for engineers and drivers to change. But you can solve the mystery by understanding the science and engineering that makes each F1 car and driver unique. Let’s go!

One of the good aspects of this year’s technical regulations is that the Venturi tunnels and wings are highly regulated and so will provide a more standard Aero distribution across the grid. This seasons constructors championship will most likely be decided by which team’s engineers find the most efficient way to get air to the tunnels. Hoping that we have some great racing this year.

Pretty sure the chassis/rake difference between McLaren and everything else he's driven was a big issue for Danny Ric as well. Both the red bull and Renault were a touch shorter with higher take angles than the McLaren which would cause a pretty big difference in turn in on the corners. Take a look at the RB vs the Mercedes on tight vs fast tracks for example I feel like this new car being so different might actually help him level out if not excel pretty well since he's already driven more different setups than a lot of other drivers on the grid

I think regulating cars goes like regulating equipment. By standardizing more parameters in the cars, you can more clearly measure pilot skills. That said, at least engineers can still be creative. We don't have a single manufacturer make every car. In many sports, there isn't even a "minimum", there is only a fixed parameter (for instance, discus throw has a table for fixed discus weight per gender, per age range).

I really enjoy B2B! I love understanding how things work. Yes, please include more F1 topics. Really, anything motorsports works. Also, I would like to see more B2B merch. Like key tags or something that can be worn to a business casual office setting. Thank you! Keep up the content!

Wow, it is excellent to see a great video that explains F1 engineering to a fan. As a marine engineer I totally get trying to explain things (how they work in water) to others. Hardest and most frustrating part of job. 🤙

Congrats on the HUNDO EPISODE. B2B is my favorite Donut videos. Got a little bit of a learning deficit so your expectations are great and help my engineering mind understand better. Thx for that...

@@Donut Ha! Thanks Jer, that makes sense! Wonderfully done, closing with Shelby’s quote about Ken was perfect. Thanks again dude, I’ve shared that with a lot of people who didn’t know much about him. Ken was one of a kind. ❤️

"as an engineer myself, sometimes you have to solve people too" "As an IT Admin I wholeheartedly agree. Software can only fix so much user error." From the software side too. Software rusts and its always changing mechanically so its always a software issue, under-steer is a software issue, too much turbulence from leading car, you guessed it right, a software issue. Kimmy's drink is not connected? yep, a software issue.
