When the evap fan on a Maytag fridge goes inop, the Samurai does a pro appliance repair move and pulls out the schematic. Using this as a guide, he's able to test to see if the famous jazz control board is working with minimum disassembly.

Thank you. Based on what I am seeing in this video, from now on I have to check the schematics this is how I learned the HVAC and make is very quick for myself to be able to troubleshoot the systems actually most of the problems is air flow in residential . I actually just got hired at GE and will start tomorrow what is your onion for this company ?

I have a question if the boards output is 120v to the fan. Doesn’t that tell you that the board is doing its job and outputting 120 V and the fan is the problem. Thanks

Rewatch the first couple of minutes of the video. The board is NOT switching Line voltage to the evap fan-- it switching Neutral. Line is always present at the load in this circuit. But without Neutral, there is not complete circuit so electrons will not move and the load will not do any work.

What iPad do you recommend we buy, and where is the best place to get tech sheets quick?

I use one of the smaller iPads because it’s easier to carry in service calls. I get tech sheets and service manuals at Appliantology.org. Need to be a tech member to download. This page explains tech membership options: appliantology.org/blogs/entry/1027-tech-memberships-at-appliantology/

Hi, I am new to appliance repair, but had a good HVAC background, but I am all confused here !! if I have a 120 volt between J1 pin 1 and J2 pin 8, can you do just test Pin 8 on J 2 and put another probe to line R for hot to see if we have voltage to the motor and if we do then it means the motor is bad and if we do not that means the board is not sending power. Please advise if I am right !

Your theory is correct. But there's a practical problem which my method avoided. I did all my testing from the easily-accessed control panel. Your method would require unnecessarily disassembling the freezer to gain access to the red wire on the evap fan or rolling the fridge out to get your probe on the hot spade of the power cord. Defeats the whole purpose of cleverly using the schematic to fix equipment faster with minimal disassembly.

That make perfect sense. Is this for this kind of particular boards ? Because most boards if you look at the schematic they send 120 V to the load from the board and line 1 and natural are on the for example J connections taps ! Is that current ?

@Habibthehvacguy You’ll see both switches Neutrals and switches Lines to loads in appliances. Manufacturers will even change from model to model. That’s why I always look at the schematic for my Load of Interest to see how its power supply is switched.
