Can Italy recover from its World Cup disaster?

1. In 2010 and the 2014 World Cup, Italy didn't make it passed the group stage. This was something that should've been fixed a long time ago even before Ventura became the man in charge. 2. The major teams in Italy (Juventus, Napoli, Roma, etc.) Constantly buy/use players that aren't from Italy. Example- When Juventus bought a 30+ year old Dani Alves instead of finding someone from their youth squad. 3. You cant deny that Sweden have completely changed their football since Zlatan has left, Sweden played as a team. The solution isn't depending on Individual talent like Insinge or De Rossi otherwise you'll be playing like Argentina. 4. In the end when these so called "Italians" changed their national team all because they didn't qualify, is also a part of a problem. You support one national team, You have no passion if you just support the teams that are succeeding at the moment you bandwagon.

There is a simple reason why they did not qualify: they could not score a goal in two games!

Italy didn't qualify because Sweden were the better team in 180 minutes. If you want to discuss the fall of Italy as a footballing superpower nation, that can be explained by very poor management during the years and a lack of investment in youth development. However, there's nothing like a big massive failure to be able to start from scratch and build something great, just like Germany did some years ago. Now they have so much talented players they could build 2 national teams and both reach a World Cup final.

I am from Sweden. I dont think Sweden were better than Italy, but more effective, and that is what all is about. Sweden is maybe not a World Cup team now, but we have made great results against France, Hollland and Italy, so that is a good start. Italy need to recover from this hangover, and start to procude more young players that can help the Italian clubs and the national team!

Being Spanish I obviously wanted to see Spain top the group, but I didn't want Italy to go out. Not being able to see Buffon in one last World Cup, plus it just feels weird without Italy being there. Before 2018 every world cup i ever watched Italy was a part of and always a favorite and every 12 years Italy mames it to the final and 2018 was year 12.

Their world cup performance has been a disgrace since 2010. Couldn't even exit group stages ever since winning in 2006 and even losing to New Zealand of all countries... Italy had the dream team in 2006 but now they seem to rely way tooo much on the old players left behind from that team... We were blessed with players like Mario Balotelli and a Coach like Antonio Conte which gave us great success in the Euro Cups but were short lived and weren't around for our World cup Campaigns. Italy need another heavy restructure and seriously needs to invest in their under 20 group so that maybe next world cup we can not only qualify but at least get passed the fucking group stage....

What happened to Italy is very unfair. They were in the same group with Spain which is a dangerous team, and in the play-offs, they battled Sweden which eventually reached the Quarter-Finals in the World Cup. And meanwhile, teams that don't have even half of Italy's quality made it to the world cup. I am very glad of the extension of the 2026 World Cup to 48 teams. I hope there will be more slots for Europe because there are excellent European teams like Italy that deserved a place for the World Cup.

Honestly stop blaming people. They became 2nd in a group where everyone expected them to be 2nd. Then drew Sweden, a tough opposition and in the first match Sweden was just a little better. Europe only gets 13 qualifying spots and if you don't get lucky you're out. Italy's failure to qualify boiled down to 1 bad match, that 1-0 loss. That's it. The 0-0 wasn't a bad match. They got unlucky. Also criticizing the group stage is ridiculous. They lost easy points early on? They only had a draw against Macedonia. besides that they lost and drew against SPAIN. They were 10 points ahead of the number 2. That's not a poor group stage.

The real reason is out of 195 nations world wide , 32 are selected. and out of 54 UEFA only 13 are selected. Italy had Spain in their first group stage - and was second in the group. In the playoffs they were eliminated by Sweden. It is as simple as that. Nothing too much philosophical reasoning.

All the "Insigne" reason is nonsense.... They're saying it as if Insigne was a world-class player capable of changing games on its own. That's not the reality. Insigne is a very good player but not(yet) a world class player. He played in champions league many times but he has never been the hero of any knock-out match for naples. Same in the serie A. He's been great in many games but he never was constant through the whole league. Not to mention national team... He never shined... He played all the 4 last games before sweden and they were all poor games. Defeat with spain 3 - 0. Draw with makedonia 1-1. And poor win with Albania 1-0. He never scored or never inspired. And even if they say he wasn't playing in his role, it doesn't matter. A world class player should be able to change the game no matter where he plays... Insigne wasn't capable of that. And his 15 minutes in the first leg with sweden were really inconsistent... he never showed any sparkle... So they should stop talking about his exclusion. Ventura had his faults but he put into the game El Shaarawy, who was in a way better form than insigne(see his two goals against chelsea in champions league) and he did well in the game... The problem was the whole team that wasn't playing well... That's the truth... But everyone should stop whining about Insigne as if he was a champion. He's not yet... He still has to show it...
