Rose is out again with ankle issues. Some of you might think it's just minor, but all these minor injuries build up over the course of a season if you pair it with Thibodeau's idiotic minutes management. Hopefully the next coach up for the Minny is smart enough to limit Rose's minutes to about 25/game and tough enough to not get carried away by Rose stans to give him more minutes.

You missed the main reason. Thibs coached as if it was still 2005 and never allowed his players to adapt to the new nba and shoot 3s. Posting up with Taj Gibson and towns and throwing up miracles will never work.
@RogerBliddack
@RogerBliddack 5 жыл бұрын
@SLIGHT MARE - Disagree. No, he explained the main reason very clearly. And if you go back & look at the box score of the Lakers game this past Sunday, you will notice that the Wolves were UP by almost 20-25 points for the whole game & never trailed... but Thibbs thought it was a good idea to leave all his STARTERS in the game until the last 3 or 4 minutes of the 4th quarter. This video tells you exactly WHY that’s a bad idea & how (non-contact) injuries result from playing too many minutes. Josh Okogie, Andrew Wiggins & Karl Anthony Towns should NOT be playing over 35+ minutes apiece... in a game that has been a 20+point blowout since the very 1st quarter... especially NOT when the Laker’s starters have all only played LESS than 25 minutes each. That’s totally unnecessary. Let your bench players play against the other team’s bench players. So you can give your superstars a REST whenever possible, during the regular season. Otherwise, they will be exhausted by the time the Playoffs come around. Pretty sure Thibbs had been WARNED several times about doing that. But he didn’t listen & got canned. And rightly so.
@theeuphioanswer770

@Slight Mare I partially agree. I think his renowned defense never made the adjustments. His teams offensive efficiencies often were adequate. His defensive principles were widely adopted around the league which pushed for long distance shooters and constant high pick and rolls to negate the new standard defense. His defense was perfected in the post defensive three second lane violation and other changes to illegal defense rules. Its a new era but his defense is guarding teams from 2005 as you said.

Deng got a huge 4 year 72 million contract from the idiot Lakers( after his 6 yr 70 mil contract with Bulls) when his gas has been burned up by Thibs...and should retire soon instead. Joakim was able to swindle the exact same contract from the Knicks (after 5 yr 60 mil contract w Bulls) as well..It's amazing how their fate is the same...Grab that bag and their game is gone....And yes you can blame Thibs from Rose's injuries if you want but he got the MVP and got paid...He's worth well over 100 mil.

Brilliant analysis if not your best one I have ever seen. A big round of applause for your job here! How can in 2019 a coach think standing at the side lines bellowing into his players is doing the right thing and that this is appropriate?! I guess yelling at people never helped but decades ago it was more common and not regarded as inapporpriate and players rights were nowhere near the same. And your final assessment here that he should be ideal coaching the D of a team seems to be just the right conclusion. However it is more than unlikely that TT will give in after reflection.

Randle and Barret constantly play close to 40 minutes, and even Grimes' minutes have skyrocketed. Meanwhile Rose has barely played due to ankle surgery (AGAIN!) and Kemba's knees' have turned into slurry and his agents have made him sit out the year to recover... did I mention the talented young guys on the bench (Reddish and Toppin) only play like nine minutes a game? Thibs is a fine defensive coach, but his inability to regulate/limit minutes or groom younger players really kills him as a head coach.

8:51 Guess where Thibodeau is now? Reunited with Doc Rivers on the Clippers in an informal role. If you're a Clippers fan, keep an eye on their defensive schemes; you might see a play that looks eerily similar to something Thibs would normally use. Doc Rivers has never made an NBA Finals without Thibodeau, and his defensive ratings have never been consistent, usually trotting around the 10s and 20s. With Thibs, his average defensive rating in just three seasons was 2nd; without, he's inbetween 11th and 12th.

Think people/media should maybe talk about Thibs go to Euroleague, the tactics/discipline is at a greater priority and he'd have less of a headache (minutes to manage) :P

Thibs was great defensive mind when game was focused on 2pt attempts, but now when 3pt is main weapon he has no answer. So it is questionable if he can help Rivers now. But I agree with you Doc couldn't win the championship without Tom

Unpopular opinion but the extended minutes criticisms of thibs are way overblown. I think he's been unlucky with the health of his players more than anything. Also this season no timberwolves player is in the top 20 in mpg. I would agree that he needs to keep his starters out in blowouts in the fourth quarter though.

Smooth ad transition Coach! I agree with you, he just was not a good fit for a number of reasons. I remember Charles Barkley harping on this over and over, that he thought they should play at a faster pace give the players they have on their team. I was wondering do you think the overall X's and O's were a big factor in his failure as a coach as well or do you think it was mainly stuff off the court?

Are the wolves any better now? 😅 Look at the knicks with thibs. I don’t think this is accurate but it’s the combination of players and other people around thibs. Thibs is a damn great coach but not a GM. Now that he is focused on coaching with great staff around and players that math his mindset, he is excelling.

I've been saying this for years. I used to tell my friend (a big Chicago fan) he was playing Rose too many minutes before the knee issues. He also almost killed Deng with the workload. He should not have a head coaching job, he's terrible at keeping his stars rested

I believe that thibs running his 5-6 best players into the ground was a side effect of his offensive sets and actions being too iso-heavy and simple. Makes it harder for role players to produce = more minutes for the starters in order to have a shot at winning a game.
