I will give it a try. I think that anyone should be able to enjoy resident evil and that is why I liked the third person more but I do respect those who prefer a fixed camera.

This is very cool i wish capcom had implemented this with the remake. Sadly i don't feel fixed cameras alone would fix the problems with re3 remake. Capcom really dropped the ball with that game which saddened my heart cause re3 1999 was my favorite re title of the fixed camera era. Great job as always mayo🙂👍

It's easy to talk about how triple A games have become homogenous, but to actually SEE it like this is a bit of a game changer. Most games you only really get creative cameras during cinematic moments, and even that is sometimes avoided for 'immersion'. I hope this mod gets more attention and inspires people to be more creative and not just default to the standard camera control.

It won't. Too many agree with the Remake director that Fixed Camera is an outdated relic. These people also ironically mostly loved Tormented Soul, which used a dynamic fixed camera akin to SH2.

It IS outdated. Most people tend to agree with something because it's true. You are in the minority for a reason. Tormented soul hasn't had 5 other games with the exact same camera style and also has nothing in relation to RE besides that, so not sure what that reference was for or how that's in any way ironic all things considered. I understand preference, but don't act like it's "the way".@@CommanderRedEXE

@holyjolias3229 The argument was the camera style is not outdated. You did nothing to prove it is other than waste both our times with pointless drivel. I used Tormented Soul as proof the system itself is not only NOT outdated but still superior. Tormented Soul sold like wildfire and is one of THE highest rated survival horror games on Steam. Rivaling most RE games in ratings. Y'all just keep huffing your OTS copium. Further it isn't most people who make the claim it's outdated. It's s highly vocal minority.

@@CommanderRedEXE Ad hominem. I also have yet to see you state anything legitimately backing your claim. I atleast mentioned the simple concept of majority rule, which seems to have gone over your head. It isn't a "highly vocal minority", sheesh, is that how you deflect claims that can be easily proven by simple statistical verification? It's heard more because people agree with it more, simple as that. That statement is very telling of the mindset you hold when it comes to engaging in a legitimate argument. You're referring to a game that was advertised in specification to, and drew in, nostalgia dwellers like you to that good old camera style but it's a gimmick that won't last and never does. Far too limiting in scale, not sufficient when it comes to providing that feeling you get when something's chasing you (especially since you can see it the entire time), it starves creativity since it limits you to a specific angular box that needs to then be worked around and if anything goes wrong you need to then reconstruct the entirety of your level based on the initial angle that didn't work out, etc etc. There are pages worth of empirical facts and knowledge that describe why it's not only counter efficient, but frankly, unneeded, when it comes to making a game of high quality. Get with the times, old man.

@@lance153Let's just hope it inspires more people to learn to do it. A mod like this could be made for RE3Remake, RE4Remake, RE7 and RE8 and it would be just as awesome in each of them.

I'm a Resident Evil fan who just got a copy of the RE1 remake. It's my first time playing a resident evil game with fixed camera angles. I'm having a lot of fun. I now understand the appeal of fixed camera angles.

For me my first games with cameras like this throughout the whole game were God of War 1 and 2 and Devil May Cry 1 in 2020 - 2022. Fixed cameras in games can lead to very cinematic camera angles and nice atmosphere and when done right doesn't detract from the fun gameplay. I love it.

For the record, updates to the mod are happening constantly and the controls are getting better and better with each iteration.

@@Supernautiloid Very. They updated it to have something called "true tank controls" which works a lot better than the original version. Still not perfect but definitely far less frustrating than it was. Bosses will always be frustrating though, theyre just not designed for it.

Devil May Cry found a solution to this issue of the controls. You keep running in the same direction, even after a perspective change, until you move the analog stick in a different direction. The modders should try to implement that style of control

Many games did that. Still feels kinda awkward at times. I prefer tank controls. Once you put 30 minutes of effort in adjusting to them they become a second nature.

​@@GTXDash say you're running in one direction and the camera changes to the opposite position. You're now pushing the stick upwards while your character is moving downwards. Now say you want your character to turn very slightly, you'd have to flick the stick to the opposite direction. Meanwhile, your brain naturally wants to move it a just a little bit because that's what turning "slightly" usually means

@r0w5tortion84 yep. It's awkward, but that's because a third person camera changing perspective is awkward for modern controls, no matter what. Unless we go back to tank controls, that actually really is the best way to do it.

probably it was a very long and messy development because the guy who made it want it to be perfect, and not make a crappy fast mod. Kinda like the Half life Alyx "no vr mod", which still didn't came out, 3-4 years of development currently...

I actually prefer over the shoulder camera. It's more immersive. Fixed camera creates a big mental wall between me and my character, as i see what they can't and vice versa.

If over the shoulder is executed correctly, this is the effect that's created. A tight immersive experience that deepens player and game connectivity. Done poorly however and you are left with a camera so clunky, you'd wish you can just see where you're aiming at (i.e Evil Within 1)

Agreed and with RE 4 remake being so successfull thank goodness we dont have to worry about fixed camera angles ever coming back in RE. Man I'm a re fan since the original ps1 days but ever since I played RE4 around 2005 it changed everything. I always imagine RE games being over the shoulder even dino crisis, haunting ground, kuon, rule of rose and other horror games being over the shoulder. Thank goodness capcom is remaking games and giving it a modern over the shoulder style gameplay.

I think that's the point. Fixed camera perspectives offer a more cinematic experience in all aspects, including the disconnection between the player and the main character, while a third/first person camera really puts you in their shoes, offering a more immersive experience. It just sorta depends on whether you prefer cinematics or immersion in your games, I guess. Fixed cam being best for the former, first person being the best for the latter, and third person being a sort of middle ground for those who want a mix of both. Me personally, I prefer first person in my games, maybe that's why I never got too into the RE titles until biohazard. I can assume those who long for fixed cam feel the same way that I do about fromsoftware moving from making first-person dungeon crawlers to third-person dungeon crawlers.

Even Mayo, a fixed camera purist, was like “this doesn’t work as a main way to play the game.” Capcom designed RE2R around third person, and they would honestly need to design it from scratch RE1 Remake style for it to totally work. A modder who knows the game inside out can bring back the feel for awhile. But camera systems are more delicate consideration than some people think. I’m just mentally reviewing RE2 & 3 and thinking (Yeah, that section would need to be reworked).

@@TheJadedJames back in the day games had so many fun modes or game-breaking costumes like in OG GoW series. Nobody cared if a bonus mode totally ruin the original design if it could lead to more fun. Nowadays the replayability is criminally neglected.

Very cool mod although I do prefer the over the shoulder camera. There are pros and cons to each style but the biggest thing for me that swings very strongly into the over the shoulder camp is how it benefits combat. Precision aiming to stun and slow down targets while you go for the kill is so much more interesting than having the game auto aim for you. The fixed camera style makes it feel like a resource check as opposed to the over the shoulder that makes it feel like a resource AND skill check. Taking out legs to slow enemies down or aiming for the head in the hopes of a critical adds so much more depth than just auto aiming. With that being said I do love the cinematic feel of fixed camera. In my ideal world these games would give an option for both.

Skill check? There's no skill in mindlessly shooting for the knee then doing a melee attack(RE4'S combat issue even moreso). I got to the point I was opting to try and dodge enemies just to not keep doing the same attack pattern ad nauseum.

The characters always feel weird to control in third person over the shoulder since RE6. They have a weird turn radius and it's pretty hard to turn from left to right instantly because the animation forces them to rotate first.

I mainly noticed that when playing my used copy of the RE3 Remake on Inferno difficulty. During that segment with the giant rolling toy head, I kept dying whenever I tried to simply turn the control stick in the other direction because of that animation you mentioned. It was only after I tried using the conventional 180-degree turn, that Jill was able to turn around and run fast enough to escape the rolling toy head.

@@markcobuzzi826 yeah that's a way to turn around quickly. But moving side to side (left to right) is such a pain as there's no 90° turn button (tho there's a trick with re2 and 3 remake to do it by aiming and pressing left or right). Good thing the first person games don't have those weird quirks. The first thing speedrunners learn when playing RE2 and 3 remake is the movement because it's super easy to mess up movement by accidentally pressing the opposite direction.

That's about what I expected. The unfortunate reality is that fixed angles work well when the game is balanced around it and RE2 RE most certainly was not due to dynamic enemy placements and behaviors as well as scenarios that demand tight responses. Mr. X most certainly wasn't designed around it. "This controls like how people THINK tank controls feel" is a very accurate assessment.

I got downvotes in another comment for pointing out that with this mod we can finally see how slow Leon runs. The guy runs at a snails pace, I'm honestly surprised he made it through raccoon city moving so slow. It's all about perspective I guess. It's not nearly as noticable in regular gameplay.

Because the gameplay is worked around over the shoulder basis. And yes, it does feel slower even when you're using the vanilla camera mode. I honestly don't get how this is supposed to be a criticism. It makes for a good balance for the way the game works. Just not in fixed cam perspective

A hybrid system would've worked better. In situations not conducive to fixed camera (such as boss encountered and maze like areas), the camera would auto snap back to 3rd person. Then when out of harm's way, snap back to fixed camera. Seems like a fair compromise but maybe just me.

No it’s not just you but, I do think that RE2 Remake is supposed to be a game any gamer can enjoy. A fixed camera angle is fine depending on how it is used. The reason they removed the limited saves in the series was so that anyone could play when they had the time. I think limited saves can be scary but not everyone has time to play video games. If they had limited saves in every game, the series would not be as popular. It is still a hard game but anyone can play and beat it and have fun. The fixed camera angle is great and personally I like it but, not everyone else thinks so. If you don’t like the game it should be your problem as a player because, they want anyone the be able to master at least the basic controls.

The only reason 3rd person is necessary is because the game has been designed to play like that (which explains the floaty movement and other stuff) If the game had been built with fixed cameras in mind, the boss fights and other fights would've been aproprietedly designed for the camera and hybridization wouldn't be needed

@@viniciusgoulart5077 You forget that they wanted to originally do a first person perspective but because it would not appeal too well to classic fans they did the third person perspective. If it was a fixed camera angle then not everyone would want to play the game. The 3rd person allowed players old and new to play the game.

I remember people from outside the RE community saying that Resident Evil could never go back to its survival horror roots because it was supposedly outdated and thus gamers wouldn't like it. But then the RE2 Remake had exactly that and people loved it Now on a very different game franchise, I also remember people from outside the Sonic community saying that modern Sonic games could never go back to having a 2D focus with pixelated style because, once again, it was supposedly outdated. But then Sonic Mania was released and it may be one of the best Sonic games to come out in recent years Basically, even though many people didn't play RE2 Remake cuz it was survival horror and many others didn't play Sonic Mania cuz it was 2D and pixelated, a lot of other people decided to play those games precisely because those elements helped the games feel fresh and unique from others (and also because they were well made of course) So I genuinely believe if Capcom had given the RE2 Remake a fixed camera (and implemented it well), the game would appeal to about the same number of gamers. Sure some would be turned down by the fixed camera, but many others would like to play it just to experience a game from a perspective they had never seen before

@@viniciusgoulart5077 I am glad you are being healthy and respectful. I do think that if they gave the option to do a fixed camera angle it would be good too. I just think that everyone has a preference and not everyone is going to like it. In some ways the original is better. In some ways the remake is better. But you need to give both games patience and a fair chance and on top of that you need to respect everyone else’s perspective

I’m convinced especially seeing what Kohima did with death stranding; that if they brought back fixed camera resident evil it would be damn near indistinguishable from real life. If they remake RE1 I pray to GOD they make it fixed camera. The mansion would be BEAUTIFUL! Go look at the RE1 GameCube version. It STILL hold ups today..

I can't lie, I love the over the shoulder style of the newer games. The fixed camera angle for RE was never my jam per-say even though I enjoyed the games when I played them as a child. However, I must say.... this looks just right. I love it.

I played the part in Leon's campaign where you escape the jail and all the cells open and Mr. X shows. The way it was framed when I was running out of there with like 5 or 6 zombies behind me and Mr. X behind them. And they were all like a foot a way from me just as I got through the last door. I wish I had recorded it, it looked so freaking cool. Also, there have been updates since this review came out that have improved the controls, though it's still not perfect, and it seems like it functions better on the DX12 version of the game rather than the DX11.

fixed camera angle is a part of RE's identity, without it it's just a game with RE attatched to it! Great video. Edit: I never played the RE2 remake, But I now might give it a shot with this mod. Beautiful...

you said it very right that "play it as a tour & not an alternate version of RE2r" becoz ya its damn hard to deal with Mr.X when he just try to destroy you with his boxing skills in small areas ... Man if just this game was also in a fully functional fixed camera mode..... Phenomenal it would have been . Great, honest review. I will definitely check it out as a novelty. But, one question: how did you never notice the bloody footprints before in the remake? I noticed the first time I played and have seen streamer videos comment on them for their first playthrough.

one extra plas i see (mind you never played any re game with fixed camera or the mod) is how open every area it make the navigation of claustrophobic areas really easy.

This... this I like! As you said, it needs more tweaking and adjustment, but simply seeing an operating, WORKING RE2R in fixed camera just made me wanna play og RE2 again. If I could ever thing of some adjustments, it would be this: -Mod the playable character in a way to make him NOT stop when running into a wall or something. Keep him in the running animation. That way, there will not be a lot of clutter when running into an object. -Make the normal moment to moment zombies walk only. Even on Hardcore. Perhapse... increase their numbers? Whatever works. Them running so fast is not good here. -If possible, a mod that generally slows down the enemies would be good. Atleast the grunts, like Mr. X, Lickers, and generally bosses. I was disappointed that none of you guys used the OG Leon model with this camera angle :D I really see a whole lot of potential for this! RE2 holds a special place in my heart. This Remake mod being closer to it is lovely.

Fixed camera will always have a place in horror games no matter how many like dismiss it as "outdated." It helps the staleness of going just either 1st person or 3rd person OTS.

This video resonated with me and my memories of my friends and I talking about our favorite camera angle or moment of the classic Resident Evil. I would like to see your take on the Outbreak games, and what you think of the idea of Capcom remastering them for PC and modern game consoles, perhaps with a third instalment. Btw, Outbreak it´s a multiplayer very close to the classic Resident Evil, so I recommend trying the fan made servers with some friends, to play the game the way it should be played.

This mod is absolutely amazing. Heck, I wasn't even born when the trilogy released but having played the games as a kid, this mod took me way back. It's still not a perfect recreation of the control schemes - the tank controls feel uncanny to the original - and there were some stuttering issues at first, but is it so good seeing RE2R have the same level of attention in cinematic presentation as its original counterpart. Oh, and it feels a lot more challenging. The modding team really outdid themselves with this.

I don’t think people who didn’t grow up playing the original game will understand, but the fixed camera made it scary and awkward to control, see, navigate to lead to the intensity of the game play + horror, plus we did it with old school PS1 graphics and smaller (non-HD) tvs. It was an era of games unlike anything else before as everything feels the same with the over the shoulder mode. I don’t hate that either, but this adds a layer of the style of the RE games.

I was expecting them to honestly add the limping mechanic from 2 back. It wasn't just "hard to control", but it adds more incentive to not get hit and navigational focus because there's risks involved if you keep taking damage. Aside from some animation details, it just doesn't seem to happen in the remake. Precision aiming added to combat is one of the best parts of the remake. But I wish it also retained some of the survival mechanics.

The best bet for you is to get a PS2 or any older consoles and play the old resident evil games there, because hoping for a change to fixed camera angle on today's survival horror games is just not going to happen, I own a PS2 slim and a Japanese phat PS2 and I play resident evil outbreak and file 2.

I sorta feel like I’m one of few people who actually looked at everything in my very first play through of the remakes for RE2-RE4. And by looked at everything, I mean I literally looked at the ground/floor, the walls, and everything else that had details in it. To everyone enjoying this mod, glad you’re enjoying it. I cannot as I only have this game on PS4, and personally I can only tolerate fixed camera angles to a point. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with preferring either style over the other to be honest.

Wouldn't work for most of RE4 honestly. Too open. But RE4 was actually designed for OTS camera while RE2 wasn't. The remake was even originally going to let you pick one or the other, but the director dropped fixed camera solely because he hates fixed camera. Said so himself in an interview. He's also why they basically cut out all the unique Claire puzzles entirely and had both solve the exact same puzzles just with minor changes.

@@underthemayo I mean that the wording matters. FIXED doesn't mean the same as CINEMATIC, and cinematic is the effect we want. It would be pretty easy for someone to choose a bunch of fixed camera angles which don't improve the experience at all, creating the right effect takes skill and intent - just like storyboarding a scene in a movie does.

After nine years, I finally completed Resident Evil Remake and then I went to the chronological order available on Xbox. After I beat Resident Evil 0, I was somewhat said that Resident Evil 2 Remake was only third person. Two games later it was a little difficult to re-acclimate to fixed camera angles on Code Veronica X, especially since it is more dated than Remake and 0. I am currently on Revelations and I am slowly down for the moment since I played each game back to back. I hope EVERY currently unavailable Resident Evil game gets ported to current generations in one or multiple collections in the near future. I also hope the Resident Evil Remake/0 engine receive full mod tools so fan can recreate the classic games in that style. Maybe even mod tools for RE engine Resident Evil games once Capcom completely transitions to their next RE engine.

the thing that sticks out the most is the lack of ambient occlusion/heavy shadowing around Leon/Claire EDIT: turning down to 0% fake character lighting (for more visibility) in the options solves this.

One thing I always see when people are upset about over-the-shoulder and wanting fixed camera angles is toxicity when doing so. It reminds me of Tomb Raider (OG) Vs Tomb Raider Reboot. There’s room for both and both have their benefits. I get you want fixed cameras, but not everyone shares that opinion and they don’t have to. Every time there is a argument on this it’s that Fixed is superior which feels snobbish. I played Re7 as my “first” resident evil game. (Re4 was my first introduction, but modern console controllers never clicked. Did go back to it after I got it on GameCube and it was 100% better.) I however after watching I see the appeal as I finally found someone who rationally, and didn’t bash over the shoulder gameplay, explained the mentality on why people feel this way. I tried playing Re1 HD on Xbox, but couldn’t get into it. I recently got a copy for game cube and will be giving it another go. I feel that there is room for both and we don’t need to be so hostile. Something I get annoyed with is wanting a Re1 Remake with the gameplay of Re2 Remake. It’s not getting rid of Re1 HD. I just want a updated, “reimagined” entry to go with Re2,3, and 4 remake. It feels off to remake all of these games and not have a Re1 Remake. I guess that’s it. Thanks for reading my thoughts/venting on this topic. Fingers crossed that I can finally get Fixed Camera to click with my brain lol.

Looking at this I'd say a mix of purely static and follow up camera angles with over the shoulder aiming would be the best :) It's really great to see experimentation again. Maybe an aiming system ala Fallout New Vegas but in real time could work for fixed/follow camera, where you would change parts you aim for with the d-pad ;) with clear highlight of the body part and chances of hitting/crit being either displayed or hidden :) And with hit (not crit) chance based on body part + distance, it would create a risk/reward system when you're constantly finding the right spot between being too close but having great accuracy, and being far away/safer but low accuracy. It would be a different way to approach skill, with a game design emphasizing positionning and ressource management. Spread the idea if you like it :p

@@villainousTCG Every horror scene in 7 is just a bunch of shitty jumpscares, unnecessary padding sequences (the recording sections), and the third act is just a glorified cutscene. The characters in the older games actually had charm and personality, even with the comical voice acting they actually had a thing called emotion.. whereas the newer games (and even the CG flicks) everyone has to spew F bombs and act like extremely badass As for enemy variety? RE1 had zombies, infected dogs, crimson head and hunters RE2 had Zombies, dogs, Ivy plants, lickers RE3 had hunters, Drain Sucker, grave digger, sliding worm, giant spider What does RE7 have? Just a bunch of mud enemies with a hilbilly family.. wow.. so innovative And RE8 is basically werewolves and robot warriors you would see in a Transformers movie.. They should’ve just ended in RE5 and just start a new IP.

Bro, tank controls really aren't that difficult to figure out. The thing you need to always remember (this is what made it easy for me to master) Is that: *no matter what the camera angle is UP is always forward LEFT always turns left RIGHT always turns right* If you just remember that while playing tank controls become like second nature.

This is actually very impressive. Back in the day I was cynical of fixed camera angles because it seemed like at the time RE fans who wanted them back were just asking for them back for the sake of nostalgia, especially with the reception they had towards RE7 for going first person which I loved (I don't think I would've loved RE7 if it wasn't first person) and calling people who didn't like them not true RE fans, with even dumb claims like it's an Outlast/PT clone which did not make sense to me. It wasn't until I saw Nerrel's RE2 video that I finally understood the artistic uniqueness, feel, and even game design that a fixed camera angle can bring, not even playing classic RE myself made me understand it as well. Still, a lot of fixed camera mods I saw for these new RE games didn't take into account the aiming which was entirely designed for OTS or even FPS, but this one actually returns the snap-aiming feature from the original games.

I may be a 2000s kid and I may have not played a game with tank controls at all during my whole life or childhood but for the last five years I’ve been recently playing the original resident evil games with the tank controllers and fix camera angles and I love it I may not Had the full experience of the games, but I still love the games anyway I don’t judge the game by the controls or the camera angles. I judge it by the story if the story is good, then I would like it what I want to see in a game is good, good graphics and etc.

Okay the option to shift from fixed camera to the over the shoulder camera when aiming is actually brilliant as another horror game, Cold Fear did the exact same thing which made the game play feels unique. I am definitely gonna pick that setting to keep the balance in check. Fixed Camera for nostalgia, immersion and atmosphere while Over the shoulder for combat. Plus I found moving Camera is special to Silent Hill games. Though i am not sure how Capcom would take this, Considering how hard they are against Modding to a point they add DRMs to older capcom titles,including RE games which made modding hard to impossible.I feel they'll probably won't be too complimented by this.
