There are actually two Roxanne’s associated with U.T.F.O. The original was a girl named Elease Jack, and she is the girl that recorded the first single version of “The Real Roxanne”, and this is the only song she appeared on. She had no rap experience, UTFO found her in a club and asked her do a song. Her mother had didn’t want her to be in the music industry, because she knew how they “groomed” young girls, and all of the drug abuse that went on, and would be taken advantage of. (Just ask Roxanne Shanté about this, it happened to her exactly like that, or watch her Netflix biopic, “Roxanne, Roxanne”.
UTFO needed to replace Elease Jack with a “new” Roxanne. Doctor Ice and Kangol Kid were kickin’ it at the Albee Square Mall (the one Biz Markie has a song about) in Brooklyn. They seen a hot girl (Adelaida Martinez) and tried to spit game to her, but she paid them no mind (just like the song says, it’s all truth).
And this was occurring as Adelaida was becoming friends with Paul Anthony of Full Force, which is closely related with U.T.F.O. (It’s a small world). Full Force was looking for a replacement for Elease Jack, and so Adelaida became the new “Real” Roxanne, and has played the part ever since.
