The difference is that Roxanne Shante’s was 14 years old and her song was a straight freestyle the whole way thru. UTFO brought this Roxanne in ( calling her the Real Roxanne) and they helped her write this to compliment their song. Roxanne Shante was more authentic! And i think Shante’s was better than this even back then when i heard it on the radio.

You don't need elaborate production and technology to make a great record. You don't even need a great lyricist. Her rhymes are simple and fit in a single 4 beat bar. It's her delivery and phrasing that make this work. None of the tongue-twista shit and no over the top cussing. Simple and elegant.

I love this song. I think its one of the best female rap deliveries I've ever heard. On top of that its delivered over three fat ass beats. One of which, the middle one, could be the best hip-hop beat ever. I'm glad so many people got to hear it here. Peace.
