Personally i never look into the weather forecasts as they never seem very accurate. I look out of the window and whats there is what i get. I also believe there is a picture in any weather scenario.

You can calculate the horizon line by multiplying 1.22xsqrt(altitude in feet) = miles to horizon OR 3.57xsqrt(altitude in meters) = km to horizon. I use this a lot and it works like a charm....clouds just have to cooperate.

The Luskentyre videos were excellent, a real pleasure to watch, and while I didn't find much stunningly new in terms of technique, it brought home the importance of patience and working with the conditions. Tonight's video, on the other hand, really helped my understanding of something I was a bit sketchy on. I always watch, don't often comment, but tonight's was a standout for me .

A great video, once again. Thank you, Nigel and Tom, for sharing your thoughts on the (uncontrollable, but partly predictable) weather conditions, and photography choices you make on those conditions, ‘in the field’ (excuse the pun, I couldn’t help myself!). Another lovely relaxing, feel-good Sunday morning! Thank you both!

Thanks Nigel and Tom, some great information here to help us all in understanding the weather data we can access. It will help us all get past the bad habit of snoozing the alarm and missing the images if we know there is a good chance of seeing a great sunrise.

Such a useful video. Without the time to go out every day for photos, this will really help pick the day I do go, or when I need a big incentive to get out knowing that I'll have great conditions. Thanks very much to both of you here. 👍

Did you ever hear about the app „viewfindr“ (spelling is correct 😉)? A photographer, meteorologist and a programmer developed it; it transforms whether conditions into photo conditions like fog, clear sky or skyfire. It started in Germany but it meanwhile covers also UK - and before you ask: I just use the app and i am not paid. The app delivers surprisingly good results!

Great discussion on inversions. I was a bit mystified by the enthusiasm for 100% low clouds -- but then I realized that that recommendation is region-specific. Around Seattle, many of the best landscapes are in the mountains, which are largely higher than 5000 feet -- and there you absolutely do not want 100% low cloud, because you'll go up into the mountains and just be entirely fogged in (unless the clouds are predicted to clear as you are there). But the UK is so much flatter that you can afford to go out in 100% low cloud and hope for that sun to illuminate the gap between the clouds and the horizon.

Chockfull of information Thank you both. I noticed I am slowly turning into a weather geek from photography so this was a great push to further geekdom! Now I understand the difference between the low, middle and high clouds on Clear Outside-Yeah! Ventusky added! Just another great video Nigel. Thanks again for sharing.

I've completed Tom's course and can tell anyone who is thinking of purchasing it that it's well worth it. I've been having a bit more success at reading weather forecasts, weather apps and events since taking the course and reviewing the material a couple of times. My reading of the apps and conditions hasn't been perfect but the weather isn't 100% predictable, but my hit rate of being where I want to be when the conditions are looking favourable has gone up and I'm a lot more confident now heading off for that 1.5 or 2 hour drive to get to my location than I was before. Thanks Tom and thanks Nigel for this weeks video, great content once again. In addition to the apps mentioned in this weeks video also look at Meteoblue, which is excellent.

Another great vlog, thanks Nigel & Tom. I already use Clear Outside, but mainly for astrophotography, and I also have Ventusky and weather&radar. Don’t think that I’ll invest in Windy, because at my age that has a whole different connotation 😂. Time to go and have a look at Tom’s course 😊
