I used to be a home health nurse here and had a lot of patients on the west side. The worst places are the apartments and motels. I went into a lot of creepy apartments and motels. The bed bugs scared me more than the people.

Head back to old Sullivant Ave on the west side. It's pretty bad still... Lots of Franklinton (known to us as the Bottoms), has been ravamped and property values down there in some spots, you can't get away from the low $300Ks. Thanks for checking out our city! 😊

Franklinton was "The Bottoms" I grew up there in the 50s and 60s. It looked about the same back then, anything below Brehl avenue to the river , has been underwater to at least the second floor twice since 1913. I remember 1959 they took my grandmother out of her apartment on the second floor , she walked out on the porch roof and climbed into a boat.

I liked listening to your thoughts on Columbus, I was born and raised here. I HAD to learn every road and freeway because my dad owned a towing business for about 35 years his business was on north 4th st and east 18th ave (Osu campus area). But I gotta say hilltop is the worst area in Columbus you almost was there at 5:00 if you would of went under that bridge, and Sullivant ave is entertaining if you want some content lol. But I would definitely visit in the summer you will see waaaay more.

I feel like linden has become the most dangerous spot in town. Having in both franklinton, and linden, I can say a lot more gang activity goes on in hilltop, although linden has more random, violent activity. Hilltop is just about 2 miles west of Franklinton, but the area in the middle seems to be the worst spot in that part of town.

I've lived around Columbus my whole life. You were in Franklinton ( the bottoms ) but you stayed to close to Broad Street. All I gotta say is, head down Sullivant Avenue, Hilltop and the Bottoms. Lots of drugs, prostitution, gangs. They have shootings and overdoses on the regular in those area. Especially Wedgewood Apartments in the Hilltop. Linden is also really bad. And all the Michigan stuff you saw isn't people from Michigan. A lot of people in the hoods root for the football team. It's a cultural thing.

I took my 4 kids there in 2003, as I turned south on Yale Ave all I heard was power locks on doors from my kids lol. They said wow mom this has changed a bunch huh, as I pull up to my old house ( corner of Yale n bellows, the duplex on east side of yale) I said no still looks the same even has same ol paint on the house,in 2011 same area turning same way but went west on bellows came around the curve n was met by men and guns..... it's sad to see all the drugs, guns n hooked down there, altho the hood growing up there were didn't have all the drugs guns n hookers out there, we used our fist n all the ppl smoked weed back then. Thanks 4 sharing, I can pick out old stores n this n that ones house... east of Central is the bottoms west of Central is the hilltop. So broad n Central is hilltop. I was born in Columbus and have lived all my 36 years here…on every side of town at some point 😂. A good portion was right here in Franklinton…also known as The Bottoms. It used to look a lot worse! But bc it’s so close to downtown the city wants it to “look” more appealing. So people that aren’t living at poverty level have been buying up houses left and right and remodeling them (which is great) but most of the drugs or “traps” have been pushed further up broad, also known as The Hilltop. Drugs are soo bad here…but then again drugs are bad on EVERY side of town here! Drive through here when it’s warm outside, deff will be a lot more people out. Regardless idk if I would want to live anywhere else…the quiet alone would be a lil scary 😂

I lived on the hilltop a long time. And a lot of my people still live there. It’s really bad people dying every single day everyone’s killing eachother … Prostituting EVERYWHERE drugs EVERYWHERE . Thankfully I moved out of there but it’s just getting worse. If you would’ve kept going straight instead of turning at the very Begining you would’ve hit the hood hood . Lol

Who's killing each other in the hilltop on purpose for real I'm not talking about pulling out some straps to make a bunch of noise and someone accidentally got hit or someone overdosed I mean who's really killing s*** in the hilltop I'm sorry but it's facts in Columbus the west side is soft and here's a good example of how soft the west side is I dare somebody from another Hood to go out and just set up shop and start selling dope it's a free for all cuz there ain't nobody about to do s*** about it anybody that is actually about killing s*** is being quiet on the west side it's us from the North linden area and the east side and I've been taking that s*** over since the late eighties they've been at the top of the food chain and anything getting sold on the west side it's the only neighborhood in Columbus where you can go in and take somebody's clientele and post up shop right out there in front of them all and they won't do nothing about it

I grew up there and graduated from OSU. If I hadn't gotten a scholarship to a NE prep school for 3 yrs, I would not have been able to handle OSU. Cols schools are very bad. Many bad houses but overall survivable compared to Dayton's west side OMG or Cleveland. I was a gas station attendant's son who got a full ride in prep school travel and all, then got a bachelor of science degree in aero engineering and an ms in aero science. Became an aero engineer for the usaf. I couldn't afford to retire before age 65, because ss didn't give me enough to retire on. So I camped in the woods in Maine Tampa Dayton Columbus and others until I was too weak from age to go on. I collect a good SS check had to wait until I'm at death's door stoop. --don blankenship federal aerospace engineer par excellence (ret'd). Oh yeah, and there are aliens

I lived in Columbus for 25 years. Columbus has ALWAYS been good to me. I moved there October 1995, and earned a GREAT career exactly 1 month (Nov 1995) after moving there from Detroit. I raised my 3 children there without any family support (because we had no family there), and 2 of my children still live there. Columbus grows and flourishes continuously. I always tell people, if you cannot make it in Columbus Ohio you cannot make it anywhere. Out of the 25 years I was there, I built my own business for 17 years. I now reside in North Carolina. If you decide to move there I pray you find Columbus as fruitful as I did. Cool resourceful City.😎

I don't expect Columbus to be all that bad simply because it's the State Capital of Ohio. Therefore mostly everything will be up to par. Come visit Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, or Toledo. You'll see the difference.

Columbus is a good city, but like all cities in the USA, it has problems. The problems could be fixed, but it can't happen with a high unemployment rate, less tax money coming in to make the very expensive infrastructure replacement and maintenance. The crushing real estate prices. NO REAL PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION is a problem. It saddens me to hear over and over again about teens found shot in Columbus. FUN FACT: The building on the right, (at 25:47) the one just before the green building is where possibly once stood the B&T Metals building. They built parts for the WWII Atomic bombs there, and this was of course a secret. Even the workers didn't know what they were making these parts specifically for. When that building was razed, it was found to be contaminated and had to be cleaned up.

I've never seen a white hood until I went to Columbus. Here in Cincinnati, all the "hoods" & ghetto areas are predominately black neighborhoods. If it's predominantly white, it's typically the suburbs (or a trailer park 😆)
