Very honest and realistic video. I think it really needs to be emphasized that horizontally mounted roof panel output is highly influenced by time of year. The months closest to winter solstice are the worst for panels mounted in this way. A 200 watt solar briefcase ,which is always pointed towards the sun, is equivalent to around 400-500 watts on the roof during winter months and still probably equivalent to around 300 roof mounted watts in the summer months. At least that has been my experience…

Amen brother crtulu! IMAO unless one is a full timer they should tone down the power consumption when off grid. Microwaves , hair dryers , curling irons, electric drip coffee or expresso machines and AC should left off or at home. This would also reduce the need for 30k worth of solar and Lithium banks. We are lucky in the dry high altitude western states not to need an AC. In Utah, MT,CO ,ID and OR there is no need for a power consuming AC

Hi Shane, I had a chance to spend a few hours at your Utah location checking your inventory. When we started talking tow vehicles I mentioned my intentions to use my 2023 Ford PowerBoost with 7.3 kilowatts of Pro Power. Your salesman said if I purchase the Roamer I would never need my on board generator! I think a little education is necessary for your sales staff. How effective would the onboard generator be in an off grid camping? Can you charge the batteries with the generator while driving? The new 2024 PowerBoost is rated to tow 13,000 lbs.

Not you, because you lay it out there for people to hear. The truth. But the Dealers i had dealt with in 2022 when i purchased my RV, a so called off grid trailer, really really stretched the truth. I don’t know if it was because they didn’t know or they just were chasing the $$ dollar and wanted a sale. Thanks for laying it out there.

@@pat9125 ah yeah, that would be sweet. would be curious though if the drag would be nice during a downhill decent. The trailer senses a couple degree angle change and kicks in. Put less breaking needed too. The more angle the hill is, the stronger the resistance and more power going to the battery bank. 🤔 If that makes sense or is even possible?

What are your thoughts on the new 2025 Ramcharger with 95 kwh battery paired up to one of these trailers? Could that be considered a very long time off grid solution? Probably even use all that solar to charge the truck.
@pat9125
@pat9125 7 ай бұрын
The Ramcharger will get around 20mpg towing. At 95kw and the trailer putting out 800-1k solar charging it will take somewhere in the neighborhood of 95 hours(4 days) of charging assuming perfect sun. Since the sun is only out

Thank you Shane! Question about the Pause 21.4 - How possible would it be to soundproof the battery closet, and outfit it with the right genny, so boondocking in the Florida summer as well as off-grid ski runs to Whistler are pulled out of dreamland into the realm of reality?
@ROAOffRoad
@ROAOffRoad 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question. First, to answer you question on ski runs. You really wouldn’t need to do much of anything. Winter camper is easy and takes very little power in most cases. A week of off grid camping is very doable without a Generator in the winter. The A/C in the summer is the hard part. We would definitely not recommend trying to put a generator in the rear storage. It is a great idea that we will pass onto Pause for a future model. It would be something they would probably want to design in the build. 😀
@pytheus

@@ROAOffRoad Thanks!! And, you're right if the compartment were designed for such: vented for drying wet things, as well as sound insulated as well as directional exhaust for the Genny. And maybe just 1 foot longer. Well, like I said, maybe in my dreams of the ultimate go anywhere rv. If you're going to them with the Genny concept, I've had some other ideas maybe worth considering: outfitting a spot on the roof for a Starlink, and associated cabling and power. And, also an fold-out extension for the desk so keeping it permanently low profile, but extending the work space temporarily when needed? Thanks again, and happy trails!

@ShaneStauffer777
@ShaneStauffer777 7 ай бұрын
Ideally a 3000+ watt for most trailers. You could get by with a 2200 Honda but that would really only be for charging. 3000+ will allow you to change 50-100amps per hour. I personally have a 3500. This will run my A/C and change my batteries.
@weslueg1137
@weslueg1137 7 ай бұрын
Have you ever tested how long the A/C will run in a Pause or Roamer. I assume once it hit temp it would not be on as much as long as the doors are closed given the amount of insulation these trailers have. I know you said 10 hours, just curious if you set the thermostat at 75 during a 100 degree day how hard would the AC have to work to maintain that temp.
@ROAOffRoad
@ROAOffRoad 7 ай бұрын
Yes, we did a test in both that we have posted on our channel. Just look for Pause A/C test in Vegas (not off grid), we also did the Roamer 1 (completely off grid). It did go longer than 10 hours, due to night temps dropping and solar charging the batteries some.

Why Do they Only Put a Small 12V Battery System in the Palomino? A Lot of Money for an Under Performing System with the 12V System. 48V is Far Greater, Can Actually Live Off-Grid With this. Easier to Achieve 20-30KW of Battery Capacity for a Whole Days Worth of Energy. The Solar Panels Are Severely Lacking By Not Achieving 400 Watts per Panel. The Roof Should Have 1200 Watts of Solar from 3 Panels at Minimum. I Hope You View This as Constructive Criticism To Make a More Superior Product. You Say in your Videos That You Speak With the Manufacturer, you should pass this along.

Shane, I think you may be confusing many people by over simplification. 1,000 amps at 12 Volts is different than 1,000 amp at 120 Volts. My X195 is all 12 volt including the air conditioner unit, except for the induction cook top which is 120 volts . I assume the Jayco air conditioner is 120 volts. How much my 1200 watts solar will recharge my batteries is a function of time of the year and amount of sun light on panels. Trees and clouds significant impact how much energy the solar panels can produce. There may be some manufactures that produce trailers with large lithium battery banks and large solar panels. I am just not aware of them. I customized my last trailer with 400 watts lithium battery bank, 200 Watt solar and 3,000 watt inverter. I could run microwave and TV for several days but still needed the generator to keep the batteries charged.

Previously, ROA has mentioned you can charge trailer batteries off of truck alternator, is that through the 7 pin or through an Anderson connector? I’ve always heard that the 7 pin is not made to move REAL current
@ROAOffRoad
@ROAOffRoad 7 ай бұрын
That is normally true on all 7 pins. The way the Pause is set up it is made to take more current from the 7 pin to charge. It can take similar power as the standard Anderson. So there is no need to do any Anderson with the Pause DC-DC 7 pin set up.
@TheTeaguecowley
@TheTeaguecowley 7 ай бұрын
@@ROAOffRoad does that mean you need to rewire the 7 pin on the truck side?
@ROAOffRoad
@ROAOffRoad 7 ай бұрын
@@TheTeaguecowley No, there is no wire work necessary. All trucks have sufficient wire to support the DC-DC set up.
@TheTeaguecowley
@TheTeaguecowley 7 ай бұрын
@@ROAOffRoad I’m sorry, I’m confused. Typically, 7 pin connectors don’t send high current. You called that “typical,” but the Pause trailer is different, it can accept high current through the 7 pin. I thought the issue is that vehicles manufactures don’t send high current through the 7 pin. But you’re saying we don’t need to aftermarket wire in high current through the 7 pin? Some clarification please…
@ROAOffRoad
@ROAOffRoad 7 ай бұрын
@@TheTeaguecowley It has nothing to do with wire. It is the components on the Pause that allow it to change at a higher rate and lithium.

@@user-xe8rh9qi7y : But think about the fact that I need to spend $2,500 minimum after every trip into Baja with my OffRoad Jayco. $6K in new axle, broken leaf springs, torn underside, rusted frame, warped wood interior, microwave that literally fell out of its cabinet, etc. That list is too long to get into here. It's extremely upsetting to ruin something that I get so much joy out of every time I use it. But I value being able to be in very remote parts of Baja to surf, and in the long run, a beefed up camper, and more reliable systems, may be much cheaper. I wear a Rolex; and surf and fish with it in conditions that would destroy any Timex. (I don't drive a Porsche, btw). But it depends on what you value, and make a priority. My Jayco was a big investment to me. I've probably already spent close to $40K on it? So when you really look at the numbers, and the reliability, I don't know. It isn't as crazy as an outlay of $100K may seem at first glance. I'd love to hear other's opinions on this topic. Maybe I'm wrong? But anyone looking at this video probably has some valuable input from their experiences . . .

I don't think Jayco was ever trying to represent that trailer as an "off grid" trailer. Sure, those little sliders might be trying to imply it can go offroad a little, but off grid and offroad are completely different things. Comparing the Pause and the Jay Feather is like saying McDonald's sucks and Burger King is the best because McDonald's is lacking in the onion ring department - they were never expected to have them, and you're making an all or nothing comparison based on something that was never intended to be there. You could similarly compare your Power Wagon to a Prius and determine your truck is awful because the Prius gets better mileage. Apples and oragnes is rarely a meaningful comparison.
@ROAOffRoad

This is an 11 minute video that is talking about expectations on solar and battery power consumption. For about a 10-15 second clip he pointed out that the Jayco had zero inverter and very little solar or battery and you could not run things off grid. It added to the explanation of speaking about off-grid in general. There really was not much comparison between the two trailer. We think you may have missed the entire point of the video. The 10 minutes of info on power consumption.
