My Estradiol patch was covered by my insurance, $10 copay, also my progesterone is covered 90 day supply 200mg for $34. I absolutely agree that there are hormone clinics popping up on every corner scamming women with all of these pellets and alternative treatments. Talk to you Gyn, bring with you printed out studies that show the benefits of Estradiol and Progesterone supplementation early on. Also, tell your Doctor what your goals are. Define your goals. If your gaols are to just reduce symptoms, then you will get offered the minimum dose to stop symptoms, however if your goals are to prevent bone loss, cardiovascular aging, neurological aging then you need the optimal dose that you can tolerate without side effects. Having the coversation with tour Doctor is your first step. I highly advise against hormone clinics. Magnesium, Ashwaganda and Progesterone is such a life changer for my sleep. Also, go out for a walk after dinner. Eat dinner as early as possible. Then take a walk after. Try to have 3 - 4 hrs before bed without eating. prioritze protein and healthy fats in your diet. These tips have really helped me control symptoms and feel and look healthy.

Quitting alcohol once menopause symptoms started was a game changer for me. Reduced hot flashes, better sleep, more energy, easier to lose weight and overall happier. At age 52, I just wish I had quit sooner. So for some of you who are really suffering, try reducing or even quitting alcohol.

I agree that herbal supplements are useless. There is not a single study showing that they are efficacious for menopausal symptoms. I cannot fathom why so many people still suggest them. It would be nice if giving up alcohol was the solution to ending the nasty symptoms of menopause. I am like Beatrice. Yes! Yes and yes. I had been asking for progesterone for 2 years now my gynecologist. I think she would prescribe anything if I said that want to conceive at 40+ but peri menopause-oh no! No one takes debilitating insomnia seriously. Bottom line: if men’s testicles were shrinking at the age of 50 we would have a cure for it!

My former FEMALE primary care physician was very dismissive/ scornful of my intractable insomnia. I now have a DO who is more understanding . Sleep is not valued in this culture especially in med school. Doctors in residency are expected to suck it up and function on minimal sleep. Functioning on minimal sleep is considered a badge of honor and doctors inflict this warped view on their patients. And this doc is supposedly a Lifestyle Medicine doctor.

💯 society is far too patriotic! It’s TIME for women to be given the love and respect they deserve - for being the whole reason why this human world keeps getting populated! We women MUST unite together bring the femininity back along with our feminism so we are once and for all put on the pedestal that we all do deserve to be on throughout ALL stages of our lives!

This makes me so mad that the medical profession takes menopause as an “oh well it’s just a part of life “attitude” and it’s difficult to get any obgyn to listen to what we know about our own bodies. I had the same obgn since I was 18, she delivered my 5 children and took me through all the ups and downs of female stuff and my peri menopause until she retired in 2013 when I was 52. I was on a low dose birth control pill in my mid 30’s after my last child and She and I discussed the fact that since I was healthy and had no family history of breast cancer or other medical issues that I could stay on the birth control pill through menopause to keep my bones strong and my heart healthy through this journey and we’d keep testing to see how I was doing. I was on and off it to see where I was throughout all of this and was feeling amazing Sadly she retired and the new obgyn immediately took me off birth control and threw me into full blown menopause at the age of 52 and it was the most horrific time of my life. She had all my medical records and knew what the game plan was but she refused and said well those aren’t my beliefs. I found a new doctor and she was horrified that I was taken off the pill cold turkey and she offered to put me on an antidepressant for my hot flashes but I declined to do that. I researched and found some natural products that helped ease the symptoms and I am now 62 and on the other side. I eat well and exercise BUT I have achy joints, sleep deprived, dry skin, no motivation and just plain blah feeling. So we “old” women have to suffer unless we go to 100 doctors and hope to find one needle in the hay stack who will listen. I am now, as I believe, over the age to start estrogen therapy and will have to take meds to allow me to enjoy a long and healthy life but I am sure passing this info as well as Dr. Havers findings along to my daughter, nieces and any young woman I know before they go through this. Thanks for bringing this to the forefront 😊

You are not too old to go back on HRT. I just started oral Micronized Progesterone, transdermal Estradiol patch, and topical vaginal Estradiol cream (for GSM) more than 10 years post-menopause and at 60 years old. My new gynecologist is great and feels confident that I’m in good shape to start; namely, no history of heart issues, cardiac calcium score is zero, no insulin resistance or pre-diabetes, no obesity. I’m doing amazing; I’m sleeping better, have less irritability & brain fog, and vaginal dryness/pain are much improved. I’m hoping my bones and brain will be better protected now that I’ve started HRT.

Once your periods stop have hormones tested and treat accordingly with estriol or biest or a combination patch ( and pls take iron supplements or eat liver twice a week and lots of spinach) because you will be anemic with all that bleeding.

Hi, I’m 53 with fibroids. I’ve tried so many things. Estrogen makes the fibroids hemorrhage… I almost needed a transfusion once the estrogen pellets got to a certain level there was no turning back had to wait for it to wear off I got the liletta IUD, it grew on my uterus causing hemorrhage but I could sleep well… they refused to take it out and it came half way out on its own, then they took it out. Then body had to get use to not having progesterone at that level which caused hemorrhage again It’s been 3 months since the IUD and things are getting better Using bio progesterone cream for calmness and magnesium (calm powder) for good, good sleep. I think it’s almost over if we don’t mess with estrogen until a year of no menstrual. Then all the fibroids will begin to shrink down a lot. Exercise 3x week reduces problems with fibroids and helps with heart, brain and bone risks. Be well.

Excellent content and so very needed. I'm seeing a Menopause Specialist in Houston. Sadly, it took going through three ignorant gynecologists before I found help. Ironically, all those doctors were listed on the NAMS site as Menopause specialists. Very disturbing. Once actually had me on estrogen yet not progesterone! Fortunately, I found another doctor that was like Holy SHIT, she only put you on Estrogen!! Way too little teaching and accountability in the Medical field toward women's health.

Aspect Health played a role in my understanding. valuable info for women managing menopause. grateful for this perspective!

Since I started Estradiol patch and progesterone 8 months ago I’ve lost 38 pounds and reduced visceral fat by 4 pounds. I attributed it to the changes I made in my diet and exercise. Which I’m sure did contribute. But I didn’t change all that much because I was already doing all the things and I was still just gaining and gaining every month. Now, I feel incredible. I've been in birth control pills since I was 18 years old (now I'm 45), I never experienced side effects or any trouble, but with the second dose of the covid vaccine I started to have circulatory problems, my AR got so much worse and because different especialists were saying that birth control pills were the cause for clogged arteries and problems with the vaccine I stoped it (without any medical supervision) I have to say, I really felt terrrible, I couldn't sleep, I got so swollen and have so much pain, my hair fell down, my face sag, I got terrible hot flashes... After nine months my ob put me again in hormonal replacement (estradiol valerate-dienogest) and now I feel like a normal person again, I do strength training 3 to 4 times a week, I can sleep, I don't have hot flashes or any other pre menopausal symptom, so I am so grateful for my pills and always will speak in favor of hormonal replacement, thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise in this field, thank you both❤

I quit sugar, alcohol and no more hot flashes, I sleep better too. I eat mostly raw veggies and protein but im still having a problem getting rid of this belly that grew out of nowhere. I look 4 months pregnant, my hair is thinning..ugh! and I eat clean, do resistance training, weights etc ..and I feel like this extra weight is not going ANYWHERE 😢 I asked my doctor about HRT and she said she would not recommend it because now there are studies about getting ovarian and cervical cancer due to HRT. I just take vitamins, pre and probiotics, hair vitamins So I'm taking this like a champ. 😩

I'm so glad that you're emphasising that hot flushes and night sweats are just one part of the picture. And really, really appreciate your saying that optimal doses aren't necessarily reflected in the available approved doses. I'm in the UK, and 100mcg patch isn't enough for me, but it's the maximum my GP prescribes. Hope these restrictions are changed so that the dose fits the woman, not the other way around. Thank you 😊xx

What about the use of phytosterols to build up DHEA? Can you give us info on this as opposed to standard HRT as an option? I’ve been using them for 20 years (now 58). I’m likely 2-or 3 years post M. (Mirena removed 8months ago). My bone density is still that of a 20 year old at 99%. I get it checked 5 yearly via DEXA.

Personally, I wouldn’t risk my heart, brain, or bone health long term by not considering HRT while it’s still an option. Phytosterols are not a replacement for Estradiol/Progesterone.

Hi there, I’m 45 and I’ve weightlifting my whole life and I also have moved a lot with sprinting and incline walking and I have a holistic nutrition degree and I eat very clean and healthy. I am starting to the last two years have headaches migraines right around my cycle I still have my cycle routinely. I did skip one during Covid. One time a couple years ago otherwise very normal and I am putting on the belly fat weight you were talking about even though I exercise more than the normal person and weight Lyft three times more a week how should I ask my holistic doctor to prescribe me form I was given a sublingual progesterone for a little bit because of my headaches a couple years ago and I’m not sure if I noticed the difference or not, but I did stop because I hear that you guys say we should be having them synergistically estrogen and progesterone. Where can I find out how to know what to ask my doctor for and what to take being 45 years old and possibly going through perimenopause I also only have one ovary envelope tube so I was curious as I had lost my ovary fallopian tube when I was 13 I did have three children, thank you for your guidance

Question: When discussing the standard of care, time stamp 35:40, reference is made to the AHA stating "loud and clear" that statins are not as effective as early HRT at treating CVD in women. Where can I find this documented? I'm compiling some references and would like to see what the AHA has recntly stated. I found a summary article released by Cleveland Clinic which is interesting but falls short of linking the benefits of HRT on cardiovascular health. Thanks!

I’m 7 years post menopause and finally decided to get on HRT! I was on a pill form of progesterone and a pill of estrogen but I don’t like taking pills so she put me on a cream and within a few weeks I started spotting heavily and had ovary pressure/heaviness. That cream had 30 GM C E2 (1.5 mg) and PROG (160 mg)/GM ANHYDR She lowered the dose to 1 mg and 150mg . My question is whether you think this is a good way to go or should I try a patch? The dr says the patch is not a good way to go! I’ve also got a testosterone pellet in my rear! Another question is whether HRT is linked to UTIs?? I am now having one and it’s horrible! I think the best HRT medications are: 1) oral Micronized Progesterone; 2) transdermal Estradiol patch; and 3) topical (non-systemic) vaginal Estradiol cream for GSM symptoms. P.S. The best way to treat UTIs is with vaginal Estradiol cream. Look up all the things it helps with for Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) issues, which used to be called vaginal atrophy.

I agree re tracking estrogen dominance in a perimenopause who is not cycling regularly is pretty pointless, but a woman who is still cycling regularly, progesterone is the first hormone to lower going into perimenopause showing monthly low progesterone on day 21 would indicate perhaps perimenopause without doing FSH and/or other causes of low progesterone (poor nutrition/stress, etc). Also testosterone can metabolise to estrone as well as estradiol as more problematic estrogen....so are you checking estrogen metabolism if you prescribe testosterone? Thoughts please
