Sorry if this video is a bit of a downer, I am working on a more upbeat video to come out in a few days. I actually had this video ready to upload a few days ago, but just to illustrate my point, yesterday one of my chinchillas gave birth prematurely. She had three kits two of which were still born , the third one the mum just left. It was wet, freezing cold and barely alive . We took the kit in warmed it and dried her. We gave her milk but she seemed too far gone. After hours of feeding her and keeping her warm, she eventually started to get more energy. Once she was strong enough to walk around with out too much wobbling we put her back with mum in the hope that the mothering instinct would kick in . After about five minutes of the kit being back in the cage mum started cleaning and looking after the baby, and she started feeding from mum. I am keeping a close eye on them but the kit now seems to be doing well and zooms around the cage.

Thank you so much for sharing these important infos! They may not be upbeat, but they are so, so important! People need to realize that in order to be a responsible breeder, you need to always prioritise the animals wellbeing and sometimes make a lot of sacrificies for their sake. I conciously decided not to breed, because i think there are so many fluffys out there that are in desperate need of a new and reliable home. Our 5 Chins are all rescue animals and we are happy to provide a better live for them and be their medical insurance now. ;) So i think it is all the more important to point out what makes a real good breeder, like yourself, and also remind people of all the animals that are in need for someone to rescue them. It's not just baby Chins that are cute, but the adults, too. :)

He is a giant fluff ball, and I fell in love with him as soon as I saw the photo of him from the breeder and I knew I had to have him. He's fathered a few kits this year and I haven't been able to part with any of them 🤣 . You will see one if Saturns daughters in my next video 🙂

Ally I don't know what to tell you but sometimes I don't hear a word coming out of your mouth because you hold chinchillas like Saturn and I mean it's really hard to focus on anything but how adorable he is,?!!!!!! I think maybe a better idea might be like I don't know holding a moldy Apple core yeah 👍🏻 let's go that direction next time, eh?!

Wow! You must have a lot of work but I'm so glad you love your chinchillas so much. I always assumed they'd "breed like rabbits" (or rodents in this case). I would've never thought!

Have you done a video on what types of wood are good for chinchillas? My mother picks and boils apple branches and then dries them for our chinchilla Piglet. He loves them and we want to try other types of wood but there isnt much consistent information.

Hey I was just wondering if you had any advise, as you own so many chinchillas! 😊 A few week ago my partner bought me two chinchillas, and was told they were both female, and was given way too small of a cage for them at the pet shop. I instantly did my research and found the cage was too small (nasty pets shop!) so I bought a large tall cage, filled with ledges, toys etc and they loved it, but shorty after I realised one of the girl's they sold us, was actually a boy 🙃 I found out when I walked and found the boy busy with the girl 😂 so I separated the top and the bottom. The boy seems fine as their is still ledges and chew toys and I get them out daily. But the female has gone to skittish! She was always more shy, but now she won't even let me near her. I don't force her out the cage, and just try to put my hand in the cage so she can get to know me, but she's always terrified, or seems to look it. She doesn't bark, cry, chatter her teeth, the most she does is push my hand anyway if it's near her. Unless I have food to offer, then she grabs and runs away with it 😂 do you have any advise? Could she be pregnant (she doesn't look larger but might be early days) or do you think she might have separation anxiety as she once lived with her little mate and I would hear them talking together. I'm just worried incase it's something more serious, she's eating and drinking as normal from what I can tell. If it is separation anxiety, will it settle? As I said she was always more shy, but still liked exploring outside her cage, now she just hides in the corner of the room behind her cage and stares at me. Thank you for any advise! 😊

Sounds like it could be separation issues. Chinchillas often are more confident and less skittish when there is more than one. Kind of comfort in numbers, she may just be feeling a little more vulnerable on her own. Just keep doing what your doing and try not to force it and eventually she will come around, she may eventually develop even more of a bond with you than she did when she was housed with the other chinchilla, it just takes time. She will start feeling more confident about coming out once she gets used to being on her own. Positive reinforcement (using food) is a good way to get a chinchilla more comfortable with you , so it's a good sign that she takes food off of you even though she runs away afterwards. Regarding pregnancy you need to put her on a 111 day pregnancy watch , so basically mark on the calender when you seperated them and you need to monitor her for 111 days from that date . You also need to weigh her now and note her weight down, I normally just use digital kitchen scales to weigh my chins, this may be a bit tricky if she is skittish. You could try to put the scales in the cage and try and coax her over with food , or you could use a pet carrier to weigh her in. You need to continue to weigh her every couple of weeks and see if she puts on weight , they normally start putting on weight in the 2nd and 3rd trimester. If she is continuously putting on weight this is a sign that she may well be pregnant. As it gets near to the end of 111 day pregnancy watch you just need to get a kit safe cage ready for her in case she is pregnant so a smaller cage with no ledges. Once the 111 days have passed with no kits and no significant weight gain it's unlikely she is pregnant. Hope this helps

@@Rawmundo yeah she's not pregnant, just a shy girl 😅 she's more okay in her cage, just gets nervous out of it. I never force her out, I just leave the cage door open and see if she fancies floor time, sometimes she does, others she would rather just stay in :') and now I've realised if any other of my chinchillas go near her cage, she gets quite defensive towards them, and hates my other 2 females, she just want to be left to herself 🤣

Hi are the chinchillas pedigree ? how old are they? do you have any chinchilla shows close to you, that's the best place to start to get an idea of the quality of the chinchillas etc. Sorry for all the questions
@martibraden9269
@martibraden9269 3 жыл бұрын
@@AllysAnimalAntics Yep both are Pedigreed and I have my breeders license. The female was born Oct 2020 and the male Nov 2020. Ebony girl is a big girl which is why I think she could breed without complications. They are use to each other. I'm just concerned about a fight and don't know whether to leave cage doors open for each cage since playpen goes around front of the cage.

I can't go to any shows unfortunately. There aren't any close to me. This is one reason I wanted to breed because chinchillas are not available in this city even though it's the biggest in the state. I don't want to use runs for breeding. I want to have them in playpen together with me in the floor like usual and it happen more naturally
@AllysAnimalAntics
@AllysAnimalAntics 3 жыл бұрын
@@martibraden9269 I would try an introduce them by letting them in a small play area together, there may be a little fur flying but as long as the fighting isn't serious then you can continue , once they've met each other head on a few times with out much reaction you can try housing them in the same cage. If that doesnt work and they fight as long as it's not a too serious of a fight you can try the smooshing method instead. If they successfully bond you can keep them in the same cage as a pair. They may not breed straight away so it's best to just house them in the same cage until the female comes in to season . When she does there may be a little fighting and chasing in the cage and the chinchillas will be very vocal . Once they have mated you may see in the cage a wax heat plug followed by a mating plug. If you find two or even one wax plug you may have a pregnant chinchilla. Sometimes it can take a long while for chinchillas to breed so just be patient and make sure the environment is the best it can be for them.
