The Reels should have been much more successful. Dave is one of the all time greats.

I get the feeling it could’ve easily been recognised internationally, easily it’s that good. Whether that’s warranted is another thing. All it takes is for it to be included in a soundtrack or video game and people would love this. Til then it’s our hidden gem and I’m okay with that.

I was 13 y/o when this came out. I was both intrigued and fascinated by this song and video. And now 40 years later I still am. BRILLIANT SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dave Mason is/was an Australian treasure . Saw them many times , from their early proggy days when they first came out of Dubbo as The BruceLanders , to their great jerky art pop ska tunes when they first became the Reels ( Prefab Heart is a cracker ) to their later synth based things like this timeless classic . I saw them quite a bit in their closing stages when it was Polly , David , sometimes a drummer named Andre and a TEAC 8 track tape machine which rather than being hidden away ,shared the stage with them .I think their last album was the arch Beautiful , which as well as being ' tuned ' using the then new Fairlight sampling synthesiser was market by K-Tel and advertised late at night . Brilliant .

In the 80s, Polly was a good friend of my artist housemate Lyn Boyall, who died much too early from breast cancer. Polly occasionally visited our place in Charing Cross, near Bronte. He was a fascinating character, reminding me of Harpo Marx. Most memorably: from the deep pocket of a huge dark overcoat he would draw out his pet bat, and let it hang from the lintel above our living room door.

@@NCBSScienceWriting A band I was in early 80s did Countdown , Polly and john Bliss were playing with the Numbers . John was wearing a butcher/chef jacket with faded bloodstains and used those plastic toy squeaker hammers kiddies have as drumsticks , Polly stood behind the keyboard reading a book with the aforementioned fruitbat hanging off his baggy woollen jumper . Those guys were just so ahead of the curve ... Craig Hooper and Polly had a little shed studio in Newtown just before Craig joined the Mullanes ( He left before they became Crowded House ... )

did not think much about it back then when it was released and nearly forty years have passed and i still dont like it ,, remember ian Meldrum spriking its treasures , never really saw much in it ,, Meldrum must have poured some of his hard earned into the video production..just saying

It’s a big call…but most underrated Aussie band of the 80’s….and there were plenty in the same ball park.
