Gotta to hand it to our kiwi mates across the ditch. They do the outdoor activities really well.😀

One can see clearly why many ships of just sail power were washed up on beach heads there. I've spent many hours along the entrance there in the 90's when living on the coast up the Arahura valley. Its mesmerizing watching those big breakers roing in across that River Bar. It's a moody river, especially when in flood like all the dangerous West Coast rivers....all of which I have crossed!

yes certainly can get rough. :)

Not just sail ... There are a pair of rusted boilers off the Cobden beach visible at low tide , when I was a kid there was a rusted prow as well , but it had vanished last time I was on the coast

It was said at a boating course that there are only 3 types of bars on the west coast of New Zealand; dangerous, bloody dangerous, and f###ing dangerous. Treat ALL with the upmost respect, or pay the price.

We got em here in Oregon too, I wont even go out unless its near perfect conditions. We loose to many fisherman every year, but that is the job. Balls of Steel!

Alaska. Big tides, big weather and badass boats.

Going out over a bar is one thing , coming back in with a following sea is something else entirely .
@michaelrice5003 жыл бұрын
I was thinking exactly the same thing. Steer clear of the breaking waves - probably deep enough. 😬🤞🏻I've been in that situation, and only did it because there was a medical problem onboard. Otherwise, I'd have waited for better conditions.

Watching these boats go out through a bar they look to be standing still apart from the movement of the waves. I glad not though because I have been out on such a fishing trip. It’s okay (sometimes) when you get out there.

That boat needs more speed, it’s to slow for crossing a bar.
@King_fisho_nz3 жыл бұрын
You can be sure that boat and captain has crossed that bar quite a few times his heart rate probably didn't even Increase speed is not everything

I wonder why they don't dredge the bar. Does the sand just build back up too quickly?
@brianhunter19513 жыл бұрын
they do dredge it and have recently bought their own dredge, but yes i would think it builds up fairly fast . cheers.
