What a great battle. When the Super X just unloads everything it has, it looks amazing. Some of the best miniature work in the whole franchise

I agree. I especially loved the part when G first blew a hole through the building to reveal the Super X. G growled at it then the hunt was on. Goes to show, don't piss off the G Man. He can hold a grudge.

One of the best human vs. Godzilla fights in the series. I love how the Super X uses the buildings as cover (because at this point, why not?) as they hit-and-run, all while Godzilla relentlessly pursues them. I'd love to see a battle like this done with modern effects.

I love how small Godzilla is compared to the skyscrapers at the time. I’m really glad with the direction they took with the Heisei series.

Who could forget that heroic and triumphant music? I'm 43 and haven't seen this since I was a kid, but most scenes stay with me better than a lot of movies that came out in the last decade.

It’s obvious that the Super X was meant to be something new and unexpected, to show that humanity had evolved its arms technology over the course of 30 years between 1954 and 1984. Definitely one of Godzilla’s most underrated opponents.

Yeah because unlike the basic things that the JSDF used to stop Godzilla like tanks, jets, destroyers etc This new weapon that they created when Godzilla returns to wreak havoc on tokyo is probably the most impressive and probably effective on Godzilla and it’s surely underrated like you said.

I saw this in the movies. I remember thinking that Godzilla was truly evil when he toppled the skyscraper to smash the Super X. This was such a departure from the earlier (70s) movies with Godzilla being a good guy. Remember, at this point, Godzilla hasn't been evil since Godzilla vs the Thing which came out 20 years earlier

This movie has insanely good effects. That real model of the Super X flying goes so well with the suit and beams don’t really look fake, not to mention it doesn’t even move like a toy

Its such a great battle.. the cadmium seemingly put Godzilla down for an undetermined amount if time.. the nuke accelerates the process and hes raging after the Super X. They panic and try to get away, as they get away the director tried to preserve the Super X dignity by playing its heroic theme even as it retreats.. Godzilla is not having it an dhe blasts through a building seemingly killing the Super X music track.. then it unloads in desperation as Godzilla starts to tank the damage.. just great stuff

This is a stand out battle for me for the Heisei era. Top quality miniature and camera work honestly. It felt like they were legitimately fighting in a city rather than on a set.

Something that I find interesting, somewhere (either in a book or an interview) it's stated that M.O.G.U.E.R.A. was a combination of future tech taken from Mecha King Ghidora, what humanity learned from building Mechagodzilla, and plans recovered from the Mysterian's failed invasion of earth. If that's the case, it retroactively makes the oddly advanced Super X and it's derivatives make more sense. If earth had been getting slapped by aliens and other monsters while Godzilla wasn't around, it's logical to assume humanity had been taking tech from various places and duplicating it.

I love the Super X but it should have been deployed in conjunction with other offensive units to support it. The biggest thing you want to exploit is a kaiju's weight and size against it. Go for the legs and feet to slow it down and cripple it. If it has wings cripple the wings.

This was the first godzilla movie I'd ever seen. I'd always thought of him as a bad guy. then missed majority of the next few godzilla movies until I got to the american 1998 godzilla. Where he wasn't really a bad guy just an animal looking for a place to lay eggs and then defending the turf he claimed. (new york city)

It’s astounding how superior this film looked compared to anything that came out in the 90’s and early 2000’s. I’m sad that the latter G films ditched the fully animatronic head for later films. Godzilla feels like a real animal in this film and oh that roar. Scariest since the 1954 film.

It was an actor that was inside of that suit and his name was “Kenpachiro Satsuma” who was the suit actor of the big g throughout the heisei era Edit: Kenpachiro satsuma has sadly passed away on this day :( (no seriously)

Considering that Godzilla is both a protagonist and antagonist in the heisei era, it’s more like he’s like anakin skywalker because sometimes Godzilla is on the light side like when he was trying to save his son from space Godzilla or when he has to destroy destoroyah or when he’s on the dark side when he’s doing his usual shit like demolishing buildings, murdering innocent people, almost causing a nuclear war between the US and the Soviet Union by destroying a soviet submarine and many more. So for me he’s both pure evil and broken and it’s like he’s both a Jedi master and sith. (in my opinion)
