I knew she was lying the whole time. I knew she wasn't happy. Anytime anyone pointed out how destructive and insane what she was doing was, they got hated on and hit with the "stop telling women what to do with their bodies." So we're supposed to support them even when it's clear they're mentally ill and destroying themselves, and encouraging other people to destroy themselves? It was clear from the start she wasn't happy. She has gone through like 5 different aesthetic phases in the last couple years. She has identity issues. I'm sick of people condoning stuff like this, this is not okay.

Also, even if you don’t intend on ever having implants removed, they usually have to be redone every 10-15 years. So if you get them when you’re 20 and live til 80, that’s a minimum of 4 surgeries! Just to keep them looking right and to prevent them from leaking or bursting after so long. So few people EVER talk about that reality. These surgeries are not always “for life”

I used to want breast augmentation, but after seeing my mom go through hell with her implants, it changed my mind. I forget what kind she got originally (I think at the time silicone may have been "the thing"). I recall her and many others being involved in a class-action lawsuit, though. In any case, one ruptured and began seeping into her body, making her very sick. She had her implants redone, and I think her body may have rejected it or something... I can't recall, because I was fairly young. Eventually, she got so tired of dealing with the pain and upkeep, so she got them completely removed. I know this was really difficult for her because she ended up with stretched out skin and tiny "boobs" that she wasn't used to. It wasn't a pretty sight. Even while dealing with the aftermath, she seemed relieved and healthier physically. Another thing that kept me from wanting breast augmentation back in the day was finding out that they would need to be replaced every 10+ yrs. How would I know I would have the money 10+ yrs down the road to get them redone? Thankfully, I researched a lot before making my decision. I still don't feel comfortable with my body, but who's to say I would after I spent $$ and got it done, anyway. 💁🏼‍♀️
@phangirlable

@@JustJ-Me Yes, that's one of the things people don't think about. Even in countries like Germany with good health care they would only pay for having the things removed to avoid you getting harmed after 10 years +. I can only imagine what happens in the US. Either you need to dish out the money or (I'm assuming they wouldn't let you die from leaking silicone so they would remove them even if you didn't have the money) you would be in a ton of dept.
@JustJ-Me
@JustJ-Me Жыл бұрын
Exactly. I don't think my mom received much at all for the settlement because so many were involved in it. It wouldn't have covered even a small portion of the medical expenses. It's interesting you mentioned finances, because while I was typing my comment, in my head I was trying to tally up the likely costs of everything, including the removal, various scans, tests, etc. before I gave up. Even health insurance here in the US very rarely covers anything cosmetic - I'm quite sure it would have to be for the person's physical health and well-being being in danger and even then it's a fight to get them to pay. Perhaps insurance may have helped cover the cost of removal when it was toxic to the body, but insurance typically doesn't cover all expenses. 🤔 So you're right, there is a big financial impact. I have a friend in Heidelberg, and I'm so envious. Germany, in general, looks so beautiful from what I've seen in pictures and videos. 🫶🏼

I cut all my hair off during a mental breakdown recently and I don't love how it looks. I've been wearing wigs, but I'm struggling with how long the consequences of that impulse decision will last- a long time until the hair grows back. Seeing Mary own, regret and reverse these surgeries strangely comforted and made feel better about my own (comparatively much smaller) cosmetic mistake. I appreciate the honesty. It was a good reminder that it's okay to change your mind and learn from your mistakes, but also to think through altering your body in the first place. Especially if doing so is putting your health and safety at risk.

I saw that post of Mary's boob popping on my Instagram for you page a few days ago. With any surgery, there's a bunch of complications that can happen. Plastic surgery specifically is very risky if you are doing it frequently and to the extremes. I have a weird curiosity with plastic/reconstruction surgeries. Also to reverse the extreme is risky too. In Mary's case, the skin of her boobs will be stretched (and possibly thin) so she might want to have a boob lift so they aren't saggy. I'm not a profession but that's just my assumption. Also I think going under anesthesia is harmful the more you are under it. But don't quote me on that. I wish her good luck

There are limits. I believe the biggest impact manufacturers make is 800cc. Most surgeons prefer people use smaller implants than that. However people will do anything for money. Questionable plastic surgeons will put two implants in to get to her size which is a big no. Also they will overfill the implant which makes it likely to pop.

I remember back in the day Heidi Montag went for a bunch of surgeries all at once. I can't remember the exact number, but it was A LOT and she was unrecognizable afterwards. Her mother cried. Her husband Spencer started referring to her bosom as "pool floaties" or something like that. Heidi has since opened up about all of this in a different way than she did at the time. I don't judge anyone for getting surgeries, but when they take it to extremes, I can't help but worry about how they're doing on the inside. We all have things we want to change about ourselves, most of us are our own worst critics. I feel for those who have taken it to the extreme, but appreciate them opening up about the downsides. When I was younger and debating on saving up to change my insecurities, Perez Hilton was just starting to get big and I read a lot of gossip rags. Those magazines would often show surgeries gone wrong with celebrities. Tara Reid was like their poster child of that. It made me realize "These people can afford the best of the best and it still can go wrong. They can afford to fix it if it does go wrong and taking time off work isn't going to financially hurt them the same way it would me. It's probably better to just learn to live with my flaws. A lot more affordable and less risky, anyways." But younger people don't read magazines so much anymore, so it's very important that people like this woman speak out.

I got hooked on pain pills after a botched surgery that got infected in '09 and had to have follow up surgeries to fix the doctor's f*ck up. Well, after 3 months of being fed oxycodone and then cut off suddenly, I was addicted. Then, I was treated like I was a criminal, like I was the problem. I even tried to sue the original doctor, but since I didn't die and I'm not permantely disabled (smart enough to get it fixed in time) the lawyer won't make enough $$$ off the case. I had to detox myself off a nasty opiod addiction, have a nasty note on my medical chart and get the perk of being treated like sh*t from medical professionals.

The extreme surgeries have always fascinated me too because of these shows, I can't imagine the toll that would take on her body, I hope she recovers and is happy. So many surgeons imo are too quick to perform so much surgery on people that have body issues, so many are quick to take their money. It makes me so sad seeing those who regret it and realise that their issues were psychological and not physically a problem. I love Mary's transparency

Can we talk about the surgeons who does these proccedures? The lack of ethics and education ends on this. People should be evaluated (not in every case) for levels of body dysmorphia. When the case it's severe I don't recommend having them, the problem could be getting worse leading to other and more complex disorders, because they aren't working on the main causes. I'm a psychotherapist specialized in body dysmorphia and ED and i've seen a lot of problem after surgeries to lose weight :/ I love your channel! Saludos from chile 💕

The human body isn’t made for us to play surgeon, the fact that we can make our body accept certain surgeries, is lucky for us. I think the scariest part of plastic surgery is that it never seems to end. Even if it's one procedure, you usually have maintain it with regular visits. On the other hand, you "fix" one thing, and now everything else looks "off", so you go to get another "tweakment" to make it match, and it spirals...

Some shows glamorized it, some really hurt those people. I recall "the swan" they did little to help the mental aspects and focused on the physical. Like those people had little confidence and they were sent before surgeons who thought just like that lady who gave her unsolicited take on what surgeries celebrities should get to turn themselves into the same looking people. Thank you for touching on if you want plastic surgery in general, there is nothing wrong with that it's more to do with the extreme looks. I keep getting backlash from my family over wanting essentially a plate put in for my eye socket to keep my eye from sinking into my head. My ex-husband shattered it (acute orbital fracture) and I honestly just want my face back. I have to look at what he did to me every single day. Not to mention eventually it will become a medical problem and affect my eyesight. Yes, it's considered a 'cosmetic' procedure but I really don't understand how they are okay with themselves getting breast implants but are not okay with me having something that was destroyed "repaired". I just want my face back and to prevent issues in the future, that's all. It is a delicate area and things could go wrong however the same can be said of much more common procedures. Edit: I've had to look at it for over 10 years. It was not taken care of when it happened because the VA took so long with the paperwork, it had begun to 'heal'. I was told it would cause more damage to try and 'fix it' at that point.

People never think of the future, especially when they're young. They think they'll always be invincible or don't care if they "go away" young. But when they DO end up sticking around, they realize that you change to a certain degree as you age/mature, but moreso, your body can't handle the things it used to as u age, especially if you stress it out to degrees like this. I've always wanted to fix 2 parts of my body that I've always hated, but one would probably require implants and thinking about possible long-term difficulties is what's always stopped me from getting it.

i think surgeons should also have a duty of care to deny procedures like this after a certain point. im not sure what the criteria would be for them to deny or accept it, but there should be something in place. most surgeons are orientated around money so i doubt that would ever happen, but it is literally feeding into an addiction. if this was any other form of addiction it would be looked down upon and/or advised against, not enabled. i think mary is doing a good thing by documenting her experience with removing everything though! as you say, there arent many people who have gone to her extreme, so it's fascinating to learn about the process and the mentality she's going through at the minute. i just wish surgeons would deny these clearly dangerous procedures and think about what's best for the patient & how it might effect them in the future, not just how much ££ the surgeon will get.
