this lens is truly a unicorn. A lot of people don't realize that f2 is twice the light of f2.8. It just changes everything. It also renders a beautiful sharp image. I use it as my travel lens or the lens when I don't have the time to switch prime lenses.

I had the EF-24-70. I loved it. I sold it for the RF28-70 f2. Now my primes are in danger. I love this lens as you do. It does everything so well. The convenience of not having to switch lenses or cameras at an event or Wedding makes this a must have. Its look is so pleasing in all situations.

lol. Ya me too. I was in the same boat. This lens ate up all of my budget for a long time. But it was so worth it. The image quality of this lens is beautiful. I love shooting with it.

I’m debating if I should get this lens or the new rf 24-105 f2.8. I’ll be using it for portraits and hopefully weddings. But I’m worried about the f2.8 vs the f2.0. Will that be a noticeable difference? Thank you.

Don't bother with zoom lenses for portrait work. Use prime lenses. Why bother with f2 when you can get f1.4 or f1.2. An 85mm f1.2 will produce much better looking images with better background separation than the 28-70 f2.

@@WavyFBaby best general purpose one lens that can do everything 24-105. It gets wide enough for group shots and close enough for head and shoulder portraits. F2.8 is fast enough events.

f2.0 @ 70mm in a full frame can blow most background into oblivion, in fact most people shot at 2.8 because 1.8 or 2.0 is too much

@@lansiman I just bought the Rf 24-105 f2.8 and I love it. It’s very sharp and still bright at f2.8. I also rented and tried the rf 28-70 2.0 and surprisingly it wasn’t as sharp in my situation. I also found myself shooting at higher than f2.0 anyway so the 24-105 is better to me. The zoom range is perfect and I’m very happy with it.

Been shooting with 24-70 Tamron g2 with adapted to my r6, sold my EF primes and 24-70 and tried to pull a trigger with this lens,. Luckily someone was selling it for dirt cheap. love this lens!

If you're shooting portraits the 28-70mm is amazing. When it comes to video the 28-70 is great if you have it on a tripod. But for run and gun filmmaking the 28-70 doesn't have IS and is too heavy to put on most gimbals. Hope that helps. The main advantage the 28-70 has is the shallow depth of field and low light performance. The 24-105 has a wide focal range, better focus breathing, power zoom options. Hope that helps.

Absolutely that Sigma 18-35 is a legend for the APS-C sensor. I've been thinking of picking one up to do a comparison video. Sigma's Art lenses are very well made. Thanks for the comment.

I've used the old EF 24-70 and the new RF 28-70 is much sharper but I have not used the new RF 24-70 yet so I can't say. But it's a comparison video I want to do in the future.

For hybrid shooting I would recommend the EOS R5 + RF 24-70mm f2.8. That would be a great combo to get you started. You'll be able to shoot 8k oversampled video and the high resolution sensor takes amazing photos.

Yeah, this is the god lens. I use it for theatre photography and at f/2 the photos are so clean it's like I shot them in daylight.

It works with any camera with an RF mount. With the new system all lenses work with both full frame cameras and APS-C cameras.

It’s incredible that for $3k they weren’t able to make this with IS or at the very least, not telescope out when zooming in. Feels over priced for that alone. Sharp and good bokeh though

This is a photography lens it doesn't really need IS. The focus breathing issues make it a bad video lens. I can just imagine how much bigger and heavier it would be with IS. It's already pretty heavy as it is. I do agree with you about the zooming. I'm not a big fan of lenses that don't have an internal zoom. Maybe it's a over priced but Canon is the only company that makes this lens. It's a one of a kind out there in the lens market so they probably charge extra for that. Appreciate the comment.

Clients is the answer. You should be setting aside a % of profit form every shoot for new gear. Then when you buy the lens you write it off as a business expense and % of the expense goes against what you have to pay in tax. Assuming you're in North America and have a registered business. :)

The good news is we all start somewhere. I can tell you I was in the same boat when I started working as a photographer. I wanted a 24-70 for years before I could finally get one. But keep working hard the struggle to build up your business is worth it :)

If you want quality on a budget you can go for the EF 24-70mm and use the EF to R adapter. Those EF lenses are still amazing on the new RF bodies.

I can't imagine any greater exaggeration. The resolving power is not that good, this lens is designed for the R, it works well on the R6, but flaws start coming out when used on the R5, not to mention horrible performance on the R7. How much did canon pay you?

I wish Canon would pay me lol. I don't know what to tell you maybe you got a bad copy or something. My personal experience with this lens on my R5 is absolutely amazing. Sharpness and detail is great when compared to other lenses. I used it on my R7 as well and the images aren't as good as they are on the R5 but the R7 is APS-C so it's not fair to expect full frame performance on that system. Overall I'm very happy with the 28-70.

Having similar experience here on my R6. Pretty much a no go for video, has focus breathing, no IS and very loud focus motor. For photo it is decent but not nearly as sharp and good AF as the 100-500mm for example, also has pretty bad chromatic abberation. Easy to compare files. Even my 24-105 non L kit lens feels more snappy and accurate. Would make sense as the 28-70mm has to move so much glass. Maybe its just my copy but Ive seen reviewers and chart tests where the performance is pretty mediocre. Also compared to primes like the f1.2s and 135 f1.8, they are on another league still. Just look at comparison videos here on youtube. No IS doesnt bother me much for photo as we can go to insane shutter speeds with this lens. What does bother me most is the plenty CA it has. That I already see these flaws on the R6 without pixel peeping has me worried about higher res cameras. Tbh I personally think the 24-70 f2.8 is a better buy and maybe save up for the 135mm or 70-200mm later.

Sony 24-70 2.8 GMII is much sharper than this lens. Only get it for the extra light.

It produces great sharp shots. At f2 you'll get softer edges but if you stop it down it sharpens up a lot. It really comes down to how you use it.

Yes, but if I am supposed to stop it down, I would go for rf 24-70 f2.8. It is 800€ cheaper and 4mm wider.

How about a different perspective. Buying another camera body is way more expensive. A great lens you only have to buy once and it will last you for your entire career but a camera body depreciates fast. In six years I can still sell this lens for a good price. A camera body would be worth 1/4 of it's original value. :)

I haven't used all the Sony lenses yet but I'm sure they don't have anything like this. I agree the price is high but the quality of this lens is on another level. Hopefully some other brands come out with some competition for this lens so the price comes down.

Yes technically its a high price but you get a lot of value out of it. If you were to buy a 28mm f2, 35mm f2, 50mm f2 and 70mm f2 it would cost you a lot more than buying just one really sharp zoom lens that covers those ranges.

@vaskoobscura_ The 28-70 f/2 is almost twice as expensive as the 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm f/1.8 lenses combined. the value of the 28-70 isn't in being cheaper in price than the f/1.8 primes. The real value is in having a slightly smaller focal range than those primes combined in a singular lens with arguably better optics, though each of those primes could probably serve anyone well. That's time saved and a lot of different reframings available without having to swap lenses. All you have to do is turn the zoom ring, instead. I've used the Olympus 14-35mm f/2, which was made before either Sigma or Canon made their own f/2 zooms, and is a stellar lens with the same angles of view available on any 28-70 mounted on a 135 format camera. When wide open, it's as sharp as the f/1.2 primes stopped down to that aperture. So I'm familiar with how versatile that focal length range is while having the exposure latitude of f/2. I just wish it had a mirrorless follow up for MFT. Color rendering felt unique, especially when paired with the E-M1X. That Zuiko DSLR glass hits different.

Depends what you shoot. The IBIS in your camera can help a little but there is no substitute for lens IS. Maybe one day Canon will make a limited edition IS version.

RF 24-70 with IS+IBIS is the same as 28-70 with IBIS and no IS. Canon has confirmed same 8 stops for both lenses
