This is how we utilize some of our rhubarbs! We make a fresh and tasty lemonade! Everything gets that much more enjoyable when you can grow the ingredients yourself in the garden.
Recipe:
3 kg rhubarb stalks
3-4 lemons (preferably organic ones)
50 g citric acid
3.75 kg sugar ( 750g per liter finished juice )
5-6 liters of water
Pick and clean the rhubarb stalks and lemons.
Boil the water.
Cut everything in small chunks. Place them in a large vessel or container.
Dissolve the citric acid in some of the boiled water and add it to the vessel.
Then pour as much boiled water you need to completely submerge all the rhubarbs and lemons. (The water does not need to be boiling hot)
Let your brew sit for about 2-3 days in a cool place, like a cellar or refrigerator.
When ready strain the liquid from the fruit using a fine mesh or cloth.
Add the sugar, 750g/liter juice.
When the sugar has dissolved, bottle your finished lemonade!
Store in freezer (months), or in the fridge (about 2 weeks).

Oh my you’ve taken me too my grandmas house 45 years ago grandma made this but added 6 strawberries 🍓!!! She put in her refrigerator in qt canning jars and labeled them for each grand kid!!! It was the best stuff on earth ! It blew away the lemon lime kool aid she had in the aluminum pitcher ! At least to me ! Awww brother you brought a tear to my eye ! I remember watching her kinda make it but I was to young and her kitchen was way to small to have two people in ! And nobody knew how she made it and frankly I had forgotten it until now ! And she always put a dandelion flower In each jar she said it would make us live forever! Lol she lived to 93 !

It’s funny the things I ate as a child she made ! Rhubarb was very much apart of her desserts and breakfast food and she grew many many patches of rhubarb she’d trans plant a new patch every three years! She made rhubarb pie and always saved me a piece ... always ! She fed me heart and tongue she picked dandelion greens and cursed anyone who didn’t like them in their yards she said sometimes it’s all she had for veggies growing up ! She loves fried rabbit ! When I went hunting I had too bring her a dressed rabbit and not blown up lol ! She cooked depression food my mom called it ! I called it special food because it was never cooked in any other home I’ve been in ! Sorry but you dragged a lotta memories outta me with that lemonade ! I thought I’d share a bit 😂!

Wow, I want to try it. Our family grows a plant called Shiso (Japanese basil) in our gardens. It's well known in Japanese cooking. The red shiso variation can also be used to make a refreshing summer drink: Akajiso Juice (Red Shiso Drink). It's made in a somewhat similar way that you are showing for rhubarb lemonade. Honestly, I didn't think I would like it the first time I saw it. But now, it's another reason I look forward to summer. ... Thanks for sharing your recipe!

*What a great recipe! Yup, grab a bunch of Rhubarb as big as your hand can grab, as many lemons as your had can carry, Halve everything and keep on halving until you have had enough of that, then dump it all in a big pot, fill the pot with water (oh, i forgot the acetic acid trick) and ten pounds of sugar, chill and swill. Go weed the garden. | Or (much more crudely done), as a very old time Yankee treat and energy/food supply for hay mowing season: Use a mince meat grinder to juice as much Rhubarb as possible until you get tired of doing that, through in a 1/2 gal - 1 gal of home made vinegar, a Lot of Rolled Oats, a pot your size full of water, a lot of molasses to taste. Eat/drink all day long with no breaks and get the hay in. Get home for evening vegetables, and meat, and bread or potatoes supper. Swill 3-4% apple wine. Sleep. Rinse, repeat until the cows and horses, and sheep, and goats have all their winter's worth of food in the barn hay loft. Yup, my enjoyable youth.*

@@amiegamache7236 Collect at least a dozen fragrant umbels of elderberry flowers (or two or three). In a large bowl immerse in 5 l of water, add two or three organic lemons, thinly sliced, and about 300 g of sugar, stir to dissolve the sugar. Cover with a wet towel and put in a warm place. Stir about twice a day until you notice bubbles from spontaneous fermentation. (Usually after about two days.) Add another 200..300 g of sugar, dissolve, strain the flowers and lemons an fill in PET bottles (Don't use glass, they may explode) Leave in the warm until you notice that the bottles pressurise, then put into the fridge. The drink is very slightly alcoholic, but most of the fermentation is lactobacillus, i.e. forming lactic acid. A word of caution: because of the large amounts of pollen acting as condensation cores, the drink may foam quite violently when opened. With more sugar and longer fermentation you get a champagne like drink. This is even more a danger to decorate your wall when opened. Ask me how I know...

My father is about 75 and doing iron(blacksmith's) and wood work here in India. Approximately 90 percent of his tools are self made by him like you. But you are my inspiration and i learned alot from you. Even i try to do.

I know, we could fill the house with cacti :) Not sure why it keeps producing them like that.

@@torbjornahman , i feel sure your cacti has found a place it likes to live. Harmonious with care and conditions and nurturing to it's liking. In return its procreating for you that there may be more for your pleasure. 😁 Hmmm in watching you process this my mind wandered to the silly side. Wonder if you could adapt this to making if Mead. It would be very profound and extra bold in flavor beyond doubt. Hmmmm black cherries and rhubard "Blood Mead" w a bang! Sorry rambling on a bit 🙏 Blessings Sir Crawford out ⚒️🧙‍♂️

Wow. I came across your channel by accident; I suppose it was because I was already viewing your type of videos. I watched this one, and I must say... The way your video was presented, the way you showed each step so beautifully, and how delicious this beverage looked.... It was wonderful. Then at the end, watching you enjoy the "fruits of your labor" (lol) with your two beautiful children, it was all so nice. Your content is such high quality, thank you for making these videos! Kudos to you!
