The Rich And The Good - Board Game Review - Charity Begins At Home
Players are stock brokers during the second Industrial Revolution, trying to make as much money as possible while also coming across as good citizens by donating money to charity. During the course of the game, players purchase or sell shares of stock, and then manipulate the stock prices with the cards that they share with their two neighbors. Additionally, players donate stock to charities, which is sold off at the end of the round for the charitable donation. Whoever donates the least to charity by the end of the game automatically lose, no matter how wealthy he’s made himself.
The game uses a system of shared information where each player knows a little of what is about to happen in the markets, with each player knowing different pieces of information. The player who makes the most money at the end of the game is the winner, provided that he or she is not the person who donated the least to charity.

Thank you Luke, this looks like the kind of game I like. Putting it on my wishlist :) You are on a roll these days btw.

Thank you for saying so - sadly not everyone else feels the same. Got a lot of harrassment on BGG threads for pointing out the rulebook issues on the Marvel Dagger review. Can't convince some people! Hope you enjoy this game!

@@TheBrokenMeeple I really do not understand this. I am passionate about "Trade in the Mediterranean" games but I do not get upset at all when you trash them, that would be very immature. Another thing is that BGG is becoming more and more toxic these days (just look at the hate "1"s and the compensating "10"s spirals we are getting in these days). But that's what internet has "evolved" to. Keep on, you are doing great and better each year.

Always loved the sound of this game, especially that High Society mechanic, and now you've completely sold me on it with this review. Just a shame I never get 3+ player games to the table 😢

I agree that the elimination aspect is great! It encourages a little push your luck as to put yourself in the best position to win you want to be second lowest donated to charity, but then you are flirting with elimination! Excellent game design

Never heard of this one - but it looks really fun. I love the least money gets eliminated mechanism in High Society and how it adds to theme, tension & enjoyment of that game. The “stingiest loses” mechanism here seems like a delicious twist on that idea. Surprised myself, but I now have a stock market game on my to buy list. Cheers.

Played this at UKGE too and was very impressed with how easy it was to pick up, but with interesting decisions. I don’t usually purchase games that I can’t play solo; this one is a real tempter though! Spot on with your review 👍🙂

I love those games where everyone is having fun and people are cursing me at the end. However, usually I am the one having fun and cursing at the end.😂

I agree with you that the "whomever spends the most is eliminated" is a great mechanic. I love High Society and QE, which also has this. This one looks interesting.

Thanks, Luke. That looks interesting, but the box is much bigger than it should :( Another game with the elimination mechanism is Art Robbery, also by Knizia.

good review. this game seems cool. more evidence that just because a game is old, doesn't mean it's dated. new hotness doesn't interest me anymore

Like the look of this, thanks for making us aware of it. Don't like the name though, sounds tyoo much like another one of the 13:44 terrible soap operas that air here.. "the young and the restless", "the bold and the beautiful"....
