For the second year in a row on Forbes’ list of the World’s Billionaires, the planet’s richest woman is L’Oréal heiress Françoise Bettencourt Meyers of France. Worth an estimated $74.8 billion, Bettencourt Meyers is an estimated $1.2 billion richer than a year ago, making her the fourteenth richest person in the world.
The 68-year-old French citizen is the vice chair of the board of L’Oréal, the world’s largest cosmetics and beauty company, which her chemist grandfather Eugène Paul Louis Schueller founded in 1909. Bettencourt Meyers first landed on Forbes' billionaires list in 2018, after her mother, Liliane Bettencourt-then the planet’s richest woman-died in 2017 at the age of 94. In 2007, Bettencourt Meyers famously sued François-Marie Banier, a close friend of her mother’s, for allegedly siphoning more than $1 billion worth of gifts from the elderly woman. Banier was later sentenced to three years in jail and was ordered to reportedly pay back $16.5 million to Bettencourt and her family.
Bettencourt Meyers and her family own about 33% of L’Oréal’s stock. She has been a member of the company’s board since 1997. Her two sons, Jean-Victor Meyers and Nicolas Meyers, also sit on the board. As the world’s largest beauty manufacturer, L’Oréal owns more than 35 cosmetic, skincare and personal-care brands. Its lead portfolio companies include Maybelline, Garnier and NYX.
The Forbes World’s Billionaires list is a snapshot of wealth using stock prices and exchange rates from March 11, 2022. Some people become richer or poorer within days of publication. We list individuals rather than multigenerational families who share fortunes, though we include wealth belonging to a billionaire’s spouse and children if that person is the founder of the fortune. In some cases we list siblings or couples together if the ownership breakdown among them isn’t clear, but here an estimated net worth of $1 billion per person is needed to make the cut. We value a variety of assets, including private companies, real estate, art and more. We don’t pretend to know each billionaire’s private balance sheet (though some provide it). When documentation isn’t supplied or available, we discount fortunes. For daily updates of net worths, go to www.forbes.com/real-time-billionaires.

It's not easy to keep your inheritance thriving especially when you didn't build it from scratch. Many rich kids tried and failed woefully. Congrats to her.

Perhaps this is the spot for a curtsy to the American woman who created the cosmetics industry-Harriet Hubbard Ayer. Born in Chicago in 1849 to wealthy parents and married at 17 , events led by 1886 to her living in New York. Destitute and with 2 young daughters, she went to work for a furniture store. Customer demand led to trios to Europe searching for antiques. In Paris she met a chemist who claimed to have a beauty cream used by Mme. Recamier and bought the formula. Her great breakthrough was in understanding that women aspired to a higher social status. She launched “Recamier Toilet Preparations” in 1886 with her name and family crest on the packaging. The brand offered creams, scents, brushes and soap. Her skillful marketing brought her an income of over l million a year, but led to her personal destruction.

Type in context- Read the rest of the book of Matthew ~ Jesus wouldn't have been buried if it weren't for a rich man. And Jesus wouldn't have needed a treasurer if He was poor. 😉 Money is just a tool. It took money to buy the device you used to type. And That's The Gospel Truth!

The Bible also states that not everyone has the same purpose(1 Corinthians 12:31), a business owner can also be fulfilling their God given purpose to employ and empower an economy(Philippians 2:13). Through their gifts, they reap. Galatians 6:9 Proverbs 28:19. But I thank you for your true comment, I just think that perhaps not using it with a negative connotation is cool. Discernment is 🔑

Well she never sought or pursued wealth. She inherited. Luckily for her, she's French (lives in Europe), so there isn't a chance that the Evangelical church or similar New World Christian denomination is going to brainwash her to inherit a lot of her money with words like "it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven", just so that she can wonder later on why so many tele-evangelists have gotten so rich themselves and love money.

I watched a documentary series on Nefflix on her mother, Liliane Bettencourt, and her daughter Françoise. One thing I get out of the documentary is that Françoise was never into beauty. She was a passionate author. She did not follow in her mother's (or her father's for that matter) footsteps in wanting to take part in the company's future, or simply be in the beauty industry. But when she was next in line, she inherited, and did she inherit big?! Not everyone values beauty or sees the need to be beautiful. Not even those with a lot of money.
