The Righteous Brothers Live on "Shindig!". Unlike other clips of this on KZfaq, this is the original, unedited clip with original sound. And it is also sourced from the master tapes, rather than a kinescope recording. Taken from a PBS My Music special. Please support your local PBS Station to keep programs like this on the air.

Great memories thank you very much. I was 11 years old watching this on our black and white TV in Dallas Texas. I remember this program as if it was yesterday.

Thanks so much for airing their non-lip-synced voices back on this video clip. I think the kinescope recording has the audio and video not quite in sync, but it's the sound, and it's great, despite the screaming. I enjoy this much more than watching them moving to the studio-recording pasted on top like in all other videos of this performance.

You know what’s even crazier than this being live on television is that back in this period there were no huge concert venues (generally speaking.) If you saw these guys live back then you’d have seen them at a proper concert hall or-mind blowingly-in a tiny nightclub! Kinda’ puts your seeing someone like Britney Spears lip screech…er…syncing at a local hockeyplex into perspective….

Was that really necessary?? I'm not personally a fan of Britney and I never have been, I'd actually be the first to admit that listening to her isolated vocals has made me cringe from all the secondhand embarrassment it gives me, on more than one occasion! But that woman has been through an unfathomable life with chronic, pervasive abuse from every single person she's ever known and even more from people that she doesn't. She's suffered a loss of agency and personal autonomy, in both her personal and professional life, and her own government consented to and aided in it. She deserves an indefinite pass from public criticism and judgment, ESPECIALLY in circumstances such as these where she isn't even relevant!

@@Ckom-Tunes That's exactly my point! Britney Spears is in no way relevant to The Righteous Brothers, so why would you choose to insult and mock her here? Why bring ridicule for HER into the conversation about THEM?? It's just wholly unnecessary!

@@lblincoe2094 It’s the offense that she’s worshiped by people like you for without having any level of comparable talent. That’s the point. In the strictest sense I feel story for her pain. However, she’s not a widowed housewife working at three jobs to feed her starving children. Much of her ‘suffering’ is her publicist’s invention. That’s why, in comparing performers, she comes in on the lowest rung.

@@Ckom-Tunes you really don't know anything about her, do you?? I don't "worship" her, I'm not even a fan! Hell, I'm not even a casual listener! But I am informed of current events and you don't have to be a fan to understand that that woman was quite literally tortured! She was imprisoned under a legal conservatorship which essentially stripped her of all her rights. She was forced to work like a dog, though she couldn't touch any of the money she made, to keep the very people who imprisoned her handsomely paid. She was drugged against her will with extremely dangerous antipsychotics to keep her disoriented and compliant, she was threatened into submission by barring her access to her children, if she didn't do what they said, they wouldn't let her see her kids. She underwent forced sterilization and was denied the freewill to procreate, she wasn't allowed to see or speak to anyone without constant supervision, was constantly surveilled by an appointed handler and had all of her devices monitored to keep her from speaking about her situation, was denied access to ANY of her money where she couldn't even buy a damn candy bar if she wanted to, wasn't allowed to drive and could only leave her home with escorts to pre-approved places, etc, etc. She was LITERALLY imprisoned! And this wasn't some fabricated tale from any "publicist", it's all a matter of court record. With all considered, I daresay, her hardships were actually WORSE than that of a widowed housewife! She's endured the unfathomable and I cannot even imagine what it must've been like. Which is why I shudder at the thought of her receiving any further cruelty! You don't have to be a fan for that, just human!

But, it does put the lie to the "story" that they are in shadow in the beginning so people wouldn't immediately be shocked they are white. Those screaming girls knew exactly who they were. (They were regulars on Shindig, from the pilot episode, and so had been seen many times.)
@dahoss5405
@dahoss5405 5 ай бұрын
I agree. All that screaming nonsense was ridiculous. And to prove that it was unnecessary, you don't see all the girls attending these concerts and shows like this since the 1970s out there making a fool of themselves screaming at the top of their lungs. Instead they attend the shows to listen to the music and enjoy the songs. All those girls back then were only screaming like a banshee because the girl next to them were screaming like a banshee. I can scream louder than you, and when this show is over, tomorrow I won't even remember anything about the music itself. Monkey see monkey do.
