I still listen to this type of music at 70 years old. Very moving, reminiscing about love found, love lost and the heartbreak, longing for and finding true love at last. Teenage Cher is one of the backup singers.

I'm 64 yrs old now, and I still remember my older brothers and sisters playing this record, or hearing it on the radio. I was 9 yrs old in 1965 when this came out. Motown was huge, and the Beatles and Rolling Stones and other British Bands were coming to America. What a time for music back in the 60s. Nothing like it these days.

@@bltnomayo : Miss Tindal, I'm a year older (65) ugh. We grew up in a little valley in Oregon where we had to drive about 12 miles up the moutain just to get a A.M. radio station. There was no FM in thoes days let alone none of had cars or could drive then. My neighbor girl ( she was my classmate and closest neighbor, at about 3 miles away) and her mom would go to the valley about 45 miles away once a month and she would buy Connie a couple of 45s that was on the charts. We would all ride our bikes over to Connie's house and go into the yard and they set up a record player and her mom would make sandwiches and the kool-aid the kind where you put a cup of sugar in the jug and mix it up. We would all sit around and listen to her new records and if we felt brave enough would dance.I remember them times like it was yesterday. Be Blessed we had the best music ever.

Bill Medley (who starts the song) told the story behind the song. He was supposed to start singing in a higher key, and after several missteps, convinced Phil Spector (the producer) to let him open the song the way he did.

“The Righteous Brothers” are considered by most to be the Greatest Male Vocal Duet Of All Time. I agree. Between Bill Medley’s Lows and Bobby Hatfield’s Highs they can hit every note on an 88 key piano. No other male singers can do that. Legendary. “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin” was the most played song on radio in the 20th Century. "Unchained Melody" - Bobby Hatfield Live 1965. Considered by most as The Greatest Live Male Vocal Performance In History... I agree. Bobby's use of "Runs" is brilliant. He is the master of the technique and started the trend. 7 notes just to say the word "I".... Their name came when they did a show in a smaller venue and a black man told them…. You two Brothers are Righteous. They created the sound and set the table that all Soul Music fed from for decades to come. In 1983, in Newport Beach O.C. Calif. Bill and Bobby at the Jolly Roger Restaurant . I was 13 feet away for... "Unchained Melody"- "You've Lost That Lovin’ Feelin‘" - "Soul And Inspiration".... They were perfect, awesome, amazing, incredible......

My wife and I had the pleasure to see them live at the Anaheim Convention Center in 1967, and to this day after attending many concerts of great bands over the years, the Righteous Bros. were the best of the best. You can see their amazing talent in these old videos, but seeing them live, just multiply it by 10. Back then the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones were the rage, but the RB were the cream of the crop.

Bobby Hatfield reportedly expressed his annoyance to producer Phil Spector when he learned that Bill Medley would start the first verse alone and that he (Hatfield) had to wait until the chorus before joining Medley's vocals. Hatfield asked Spector just what he was supposed to do during Medley's solo, Spector replied: "You can go directly to the bank!" -Wikipedia Mr Spector was Right: "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" = Top Performed Song of 20th Century: BMI: Top 100 Songs of the (20th) Century, listing the most played songs on American radio and television. Leading the list is, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," written by Barry Mann, Phil Spector and Cynthia Weil, which recently passed the historic 8 million performance plateau. It was originally recorded by The Righteous Brothers and produced by Spector. - BMI, December 13, 1999 (Broadcast Music, Inc.) is one major United States performing rights organizations)

If one pays attention to the message of this song, it's one of the sadder things that can happen to a relationship. It also is a very good and classic song with a great performance. Yes, they are very "soulful" and thus the origin of the phrase "blue-eyed soul". Back in the day I don't believe most noticed if something was soulful or not just if you liked it.

One of the most beautiful things that they did was perform another Song called "Rock & Roll Heaven" paying homage to the Rock Immortals like Jim Morrison, Elvis Presley & John Lennon. This was in 1981 on an American Bandstand TV Special. What they didn't realize was that many of the folks who performed that night would also die in the future. Maurice White of Earth Wind & Fire, Dennis & Carl Wilson Of The Beach Boys, and Teddy Pendergrass. They also were on the very first Cover of Tiger Beat Magazine that premiered in 1965 whose Sister Magazine Right On was the First Teen Magazine for African American Kids.

The thing that I can't help but notice in this video is the section (in this video) from about 3:00 until about 3:10. Bill Medley has just stood up and Bobby Hatfield is just sitting there staring off into space. Then, at the exact right moment, Mr. Hatfield nonchalantly stands up and joins Mr. Medley. Great reaction ... give the tune Mr. Lonely by Bobby Vinton a listen ... he had more Billboard #1 hits than any other male vocalist from the years 1962 - 1972, more than Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. Billboard called him "the all-time most successful love singer of the 'Rock Era'". Try to find either the original recording with no video or his early appearance on American Bandstand performing the song (there's a stereo version of that performance out there as well). He explains how the song came about while serving in the military. Thanks again, enjoy watching your reaction videos!

Loved your reaction! When this song first came out, some white radio stations wouldn't play this song because their sound and group name led them to assume they were black artists. And when some black stations played this, they asked the Righteous Brothers to come in for an interview and when two white guys walked in, they also stopped playing it. But despite that rough start, this song ended up becoming the most played song on American radio and television in the 20th century with over 8 million air-plays by 1999. Back in the day, they were known as "blue-eyed soul". If you liked this one, please react to (You're My) Soul and Inspiration, which also features both "brothers". You will definitely get to hear Bill Medley pour his soul into that deep baritone voice on that one as well!

at 2:30 you almost used the word melancholy... that should never be used to describe an artists performance unless they really make you feel depressed when you listen. I love that you finally did this song ... thanks

Okay, I can't help it, you are so beautiful. I wasn't going to to say anything, but my God you are lovely. And the song is about you. Thanks so much for your time

My mother being 82 turned to me her 47 year old youngest son and said "they had to be loud in there shows to cover up the sound of panties hitting the floor" she has parted now but I never listened to the words of the song until she said that. I guess I couldnt disagree well I couldnt do much of anything at the time in 47 years she never swore in front of me then to say that I may have actually gone into shock.

I recommend Who Knows Where the Time Goes by Fairport Convention; composed and sung by he late, great Sandy Denny on lead vocals.
