Well, it does, but when you use it to hire on the basis of diversity......................
@PolBlanesCebrian2 күн бұрын
@@SnakeWasRight Please... get your head out of your butt. Who do you think is responsible for RoP being so bad? Talent doesn't just mean actors, and I would argue actors are the least responsible. Writers, directors and especially executive producers are the problem. Let's see: Writters - J.D.Payne, American, white; Patrick McKay, American, white. Exec. Producers - Jason Cahill, American, white; Gennifer Hutchison, American, white; Lindsey Weber, American, white; Justin Doble, American, white; S2 Directors - Louise Hooper, British, white; Sanaa Hamri, Moroccan, north-african. Less than half of the acting cast is nonwhite. Keep talking about "diversity" and "inclusion" being the problem and you will achieve nothing. The problem is not diversity, it's the narcissism of the production team in sequestering an IP to attract views to their mediocre or bad writing.
@SnakeWasRightКүн бұрын
@@PolBlanesCebrian I didn't say anything about the actors, did I? But let's unpack this... the writers and casting directors are hiring on the basis of diversity. So, does that mean the acting is bad? No, it means the writing is bad because rheyre creating characters on the basis of diversity and not story function, they're creating characters with diversity instead of personality. Not that those are mutually exclusive, but the wokesters believe that diversity is enough to market on and to watch. They literally think as long as the character is a minority, minorities can identify with them, so, character is diverse, job done. Nothing else to add. Because they think minorities can't identify with white characters no matter how well written they are. Writing isn't a factor to these people. And you can have a white writer and still get the same effect. You seem to be thinking I said something I most certainly did not. A white person can be hired on the basis of diversity in the sense that they're going to hire and write diverse characters and tow the woke line. Diversity is still the basis. Not actual talent. P.s. your comment "less than half the cast is non white." Now, imagine making a show or movie about sub Sahara African people or mythology and trying to justify a little less than half the cast being non African. Lord of the rings is a European tale, literally supposedly pre historic Europe. There should be an internal logic to the story. Races evolve separately, that's just a biological fact. That's why the exist: geography. The funny thing is, there is a very legitimate way to get non white peoples into this story: bring in people from the right geography. Harad, the east, the south lands. But instead, every single area is racially heterogenous, which makes no sense historically, geographically, or otherwise. Again, imagine making a show about African mythology and having Japanese people and white people as every other character right alongside Africans like it's just normal. No, they should all be African with little to no exception. But again, not blaming the actors, and not blaming race. I'm blaming people who think representation is a substitute for character traits. 🙄
@PolBlanesCebrianКүн бұрын
@@SnakeWasRight So the problem is the acting because they hired less qualified people in order to fill the quotas? This would mean 2 things: You should be able to pinpoint those that are acting worse and see that they are generally worse; and you should be able to notice those who haven't been selected to fill quotas, them being better than actors in media that doesn't try to be inclusive. The latter basically because of the reduced number of positions that are allowed to be filled by non-minorities, reducing offer increases competition. But most importantly, you're saying the writing, direction and production are not to blame for the show being bad... Weird thing to state in a video that talks about costume design in the damn thumbnail. I think you're quite alone on this. In fact, actors depend a lot on direction and script in every piece of media, only really good actors can go beyond that, but that's the reason child and aspiring actors can actually do great performances sometimes. Sincerely, it's quite sad that you jump to such simplified conclusions when the situation is so much broader yet straightforward. You let your discomfort for minorities blind you.

@@PolBlanesCebrian WOW. Stunning lack of reading comprehension. Like, truly unbelievable. I LITERALLY said I'm not talking about the actors' talent. Explicitly. I never mentioned them or their talent, ans yet your first comment is that I claimed something about their talent? You are just a liar. I EXPLICITLY said the writing is the problem, and you come back with "you're saying the writing, direction, and production are not to blame for the show being bad." Either you are INCAPABLE of reading, or you're INCAPABLE of being honest. Wow, this is seriously the most unhinged response you could have possibly given. How many times did I say the WRITERS made bad decisions and compromised on WORLDBUILDING or CHARACTER and PLOT because they thought diversity would be enough? How many times do I need to say that? How explicitly do I need to say its not the actors' fault? How many times? Honestly, tell me how many times, and I'll do it that exact amount of times. Explicitly, it is NOT THE ACTORS' FAULT. While I do think the actors can be obnoxious in interviews, they are being made into human shields by the producers, and should NOT be subject to criticism for the product they made. They did their job. They did what the script said. The script is the problem. The worldbuilding is the problem. I don't care how good a white actor is, if the plot occurs in Sub-Saharan ancient Africa, there should be few to zero white people on the cast. I don't care if the greatest actor on earth is white, and can act the script so well it brings tears to everyone's eyes... if the story is adapting black African history or black african mythology (because North Africans and (modern) South africans are white) then it would make NO SENSE to cast a bunch of white people. Ethnography is a thing. Races occur in geographic locations with little to no mixing, in ancient and medieval times. Discomfort for minorities? What part of "african stories should not have white people" makes me uncomfortable with minorities, liar? I would LOVE to watch some REAL african history and mythology, but Hollywood is not interested in that. They're interested in shoving minorities into European history and European myths. We don't need to make everything European. We need REAL african representation. Since I know you're a liar, I know you won't understand the following, but this is my argument, again... these writers don't understand character... they just think that white people like white characters, so make some black, and black people will like those characters because they're black, thus, character is not a priority to them. That's racist. You are defending racism, I am attacking racism. You're pathetic.

I would argue 2 things: Kate Hawley is a great costume designer and has worked with Peter Jackson before, only in futuristic movies. She might lack experience in medieval and fantasy settings but I doubt that's the problem. More likely, the issue are the producers, making demands and being inflexible in their impetuous narcissism. The fact the helmet looks weird is in part because it has open cheeks and that makes it feel like it's about to fall. The producers probably thought "The spectators have to be able to see the actor's faces!!! But we WANT a helmet.." Just look at elrond in Peter Jackson's movies, never using a helmet. In fact only extras do, other than Faramir in a scene where the setting conveys the meaning and not the actor's face. It's an issue with the producers' inability to understand filmmaking and proper writing, which is why they hijacked the tolkien IP, to get free marketing and have their moment of free fame. Narcissists can't understand why people think they do things badly.

I still find it hilarious that I was reading the appendices at the time of season 1 and I found not one thing from their show in the appendices. And their costumes are literally t-shirts with designs printed on them, cheap pieces of plastic, and cardboard. I do find it really sad though that I can no longer go on the internet and research stuff regarding Tolkien's lore. Almost everything are websites and forums of people trying so hard to justify RoP and make it seem like it really is Tolkien's works. I feel for any new or potential new fans who turn away because they see this steaming dog pile of crap and think how bad it is and Tolkien must not be worth reading. I wish we could go back before this whole show came out. It was quite peaceful and I was able to get my head start on Tolkien through the internet before I was finally able to buy the books. And I am grateful for Peter Jackson for making the movies and highly respect him for staying as close to the lore as possible. If it wasn't for him, I would never have known about Tolkien. Never once growing up did I ever see any books by Tolkien in my schools, libraries, or bookstores. If I want to buy one of his books, I have to search very hard or just order from Waterstones. And I am grateful to you European Lore for sharing which bookstores to order from. I finished buying all the books from Tolkien, and even found a rare set to add to my collection. Keep doing what you're doing and sharing books from him that I may not even know about like the History of the Hobbit. Thank you!

The costume does look better than season 1 "armour" did. It still makes a strong impression that a tween Californian had a good read of 50 Shades of Grey and decided to 3d print the sketch she felt inspired to doodle after the deep, enlightening read. All you need is just a look as long as you watched some costume drama made by filmmakers in the past and compare the subjective impression of believability between cinema and Amazon stuff. Now if I could only look at the cuirass and shoulders, possibly mounted on a manequin in a museum, it would be half decent if I paid no attention. But here it is pretending to protect a warrior in combat. Now that the excuse for stans to say "pff you so vague, you're just a hater" is out of the way, now it's the time to give a reason to them to tell me to go touch grass (preferably in the same response). We got told to do it by stans and shills of the Acoshyte and Nurse What and we did just that. Now it's time to repeat the process for Amazon's own 50 Shades. The helmet and the armguards look particularly fake, shapes of both SCREAM "we 3d-printed this out of the cheapest plastic". There is no armour production process that could end up in something so obviously plastic. It would be fitting if I could meme it with "when you order your armour from Amazon" but sadly for my memelord career, it looks more like "when you order your armour from Wish". The crest is seriosuly ridiculous. The one function it might serve is that when you miss a hit to the head ways up, the opponent's skull will at least get yanked hard. Crest on a centurion galea and later iterations of it were brightly coloured for a reason. Shiny parts (supposedly plate armour, I guess) do not include couters and gauntlets. No goussets either. The missing couter shows an elbow clad in what could easily be one of my hoodies. Hey, at least it doesn't have the "chainmail" print on it. The plackart is kinda OK, although marrying Peter Jackson's elven armour to a lorica segmentata does rob it of some credibility. The breastplate, though, is an obvious single piece with pointless deep grooves. The amount of material used on shoulder "decorations" and the crest would prolly be enough for a gorget. The weapon looks like a Walmart toy. Literally "Real Ninja Dussack! $5.99!". A lot of pointless crap there and little that looks anything like armour. A proper reco nerd like @shadiversity would probably blast this with a low-orbit ion cannon, a dilettante like me can easily see which idiotic details lead to the "armour" looking terrible, a normie will still get an impression of fakeness and cheapness even without getting into details. The mind of a shill seems to me to be a good basis for a whole sub-branch of psychiatry. Unless he's well paid to say "this an awesome suit of epic fantasy armour", of course. Or expects to get fired otherwise.

Hell if he would be indeed some sort of first generation orc...he should look WAAAY more monstrous or twisted in-between stage between elf form and orcish body...I guess they were blowing too much budget on the CGI and so forgot to make him proper orcish prosthetics! :) As a character he is just uhhh ridiculously bad attept at trying to whitewash orcs and trying to bring that edginess oh look this character has more complexity...but in truth he is nothing but a pathetic dark lord wannabe lesser even than Saruman!!!!!!! Thematically he is not interesting...as he doesn't really explore any new facet of the Orcs as a people or doesn't tell anything poignant about them! At least if they explored that maybe he would managable....but he is an odd element that does not fit into Tolkien work....hell at this point I would have preferred a simple orc chieftain of the likes of Great Goblin, Azog or Bolg!! Heck in actual Tolkien's Middle-earth...such a being as Adar would have been crushed by Sauron immediately....he is nothing next to him!
