A discussion of the history of Goa’uld System Lord Apophis, arguably the primary antagonist of the Stargate SG-1 TV series and how he proved to be fundamental in uniting the iconic SG-1 team. SPOILERS for Stargate SG-1
Apophis is a member of the race known as the Goa’uld, sentient snake-like parasitic life forms who have accrued massive power and influence throughout the milky way galaxy as they forcefully acquire the bodies of other species to use as their hosts. The Goa’uld seek to enslave other races using stolen technology from advanced cultures to achieve their goals of galactic domination.

The best part is that the actor that played Apophis, Peter Williams, is just a super nice guy to fans and has recently done interviews with some KZfaqrs. He really did set a very high bar for other bad guys to come as he chewed the scenery with the best of them. Thank you for going over SG-1. It's a series I'm presently watching so your timing couldn't be better, for me. I hope you have a wonderful one!

yeah i actually could not cheer when he died, both times. he was a really good villain. most were, but for 6seasons(i think) he was THE villain. spotless acting.

Apophis had one of the coolest villain introductions on TV the way he and his Serpent guard entered the gate room in the pilot episode. If not for his arrogance causing his serious military blunders, He would have been an even greater threat. Would have been cool to see him VS Anubis in conflict.

I'm not gonna lie, I genuinely felt so bad for Apophis's host as he was dying. Peter Williams shined in that role, I hated when they finally killed him off. Great video as always, Elaine, keep 'em coming!

I'm really enjoying this series expanding on the Stargate setting. SG-1 had some really great actors playing the villains. Apophis, Ba'al, and Adria wouldn't have been nearly as much fun without Peter Williams, Cliff Simon, and Morena Baccarin filling those shoes.

really liked him after he absorbed Sokars forces... he genuinely felt like something new and unstoppable. i loved how they changed his costumes and sets to show him as a god of the underworld.

Hi just wanted to say love your videos! I hope we get a run down on Ba'al. I think of all the Goa'uld he was the most aware of himself and the true circumstances of the Goa'uld and although he frequently referred to himself as a God he (unlike most of his counterparts) had not bought into his own propaganda and knew he was not a Deity. The only other Goa'uld who was as dangerous as him was Anubis due to his ascended knowledge. I also think Sokar was under used and killed off far too soon. As a Goa'uld based on the Devil I think had the potential to be the most horrifying of all.

I would have liked him a lot more if he didn't constantly show up. I like villains that only last about one season. One of the reasons I grew to hate comic books is the villains that keep returning.

Not Bad. Stargate is a broad and well developed IP that was purchased by AMazon and will be developed into a series again by Brad Wright himself. He is already working on several new seasons of the show. I am very interested to see how they solve the issue of the failed SGU soon. Brad Wright has teased a new SG team made up of many stars from the shows. Amanda Tapping has signed on as well as Richard Dean Anderson. But Apophis was a rather dry villian to me Daniels arch villianess Isis was one of the better written characters from the villian side. So was Anubus and the fact he was a half ascended being... Thor was another notable character as well.

Wonder why Apophis decided to try dialing earth on his travels to find a new host for his wife. The earth stargate that RA brought have been inactive and burried for like 5000 years.

I love Stargate but I always thought that was a weak ass way for Apophis to go out. I'm not it was anticlimactic, but it doesn't really didn't do the character justice imo.

I'm glad they finally killed off Apophis. Villains who keep showing up after presumably being destroyed become tiresome.

to be perfectly honest, no I didn't like Apophis at all in SG1, I much preferred any number of the other bad guys, Yu being the best if I'm going to be honest. Apophis himself felt like Rita Repulsa for the repetitive nature of his story, if they'd just let him die to Sokar I'd have nothing bad to say about him.
