Did you know that the rulers of the Ghana Empire were so rich they were known as Kings of Gold? This video is all about the rise and fall of the great Ghana Empire, once known as the land of gold.
The Ghana Empire flourished in West Africa from at least the 6th to 13th century CE. Not connected geographically to the modern state of Ghana, the Ghana Empire was located in the western Sudan savannah region (modern southern Mauritania and Mali) sandwiched between the Sahara desert to the north and the rainforests to the south.
Trade in the Ghana Empire was facilitated by the abundance of iron, copper, gold, and ivory and easy access to the Niger and Senegal Rivers and their tributaries. The Ghana kings, residing in the capital at Koumbi Saleh, grew immensely rich, building up stockpiles of the gold nuggets only they were permitted to possess. Consequently, the reputation of Ghana spread to North Africa and Europe, where it was described as a fabulous land of gold. The Ghana Empire crumbled from the 12th century CE following drought, civil wars, the opening up of trade routes elsewhere, and the rise of the Sosso Kingdom (c. 1180-1235 CE) and then the Mali Empire (1240-1645 CE).

Around the same region on which Mansa Musa ruled? makes sense. Interesting topic. hopefully more information will emerge on the empires of sub-Saharan Africa.

A couple of questions! 1. Did they build large architectural projects/monuments? 2. Were there written records produced by the empire? If so, did they have their own script or used Arabic?

really poor video: worthless stock images, few maps, not specifying "B.C." or "A.D." etc...

Okay. Please consider moving the camera slightly to the left as I noticed you are uncentered and it is throwing me off. I like your video. I didn't know that the Ghana Empire was significant, and I don't understand why there is a country in a different location boasting the same name. Is anyone else confused by this issue? I either was your 329th view or your 330th view.

Next time she should move it slightly right and do it for all her videos so every single video is just mildly off center. The modern state of Ghana has nothing to do with the ancient kingdom in fact it’s not even geographically in the same religion.

I Realize that. Hopefully you could tell it was confusing and that I am not an idiot for paying attentions.@@Caligulashorse1453

I don't learn African history from Europeans. You've distorted our truth more than enough for me.
