While many speculations float around his career, I took a deep dive in trying to understand what exactly happened and what may lie ahead in the future for him as a creative. I respect Imran Khan that he took an approach that many below average actors in the industry couldn't. He felt that he could do better things in life apart from acting and I have complete respect for him otherwise in the bollywood people don't stop for decades. But with Imran's sudden break I suddenly feel nostalgic for watching Imran once again.

Jaane tu ya jaane Na is etched in our hearts. The cast was beautiful. Imran chose what he felt is best to do. Needed more of him but sometimes it's better than just being irrelevant after a point. He is remembered and loved till date. Luck was one movie which must have blasted but it failed. Also every movie of his had such beautiful songs which are bangers till date 😬

About luck, if Shruti hasan had looked the way she looks now would have created more buzz. After her nose surgery she became heart throb for many of Telugu industry. It was an unexpected and incredible transformation. Though I wouldn't recommend but her looks totally changed after the nose jobs. She did many other things to her face which i don't believe she required any of it. Imran was well spoken intelligent person. He could talk about anything under the cloud where as Ranbhir wasn't during that time. Later Ranbhir grew as an actor and put a lot of effort to become what he is today. Imran seemed more grounded and settled soon. He wasn't hungry enough to grow as an actor. He has got looks and talent as well. But he does have the zest. He was more interested in going behind the camera and had good understanding and knowledge about production but now I don't know where he stands. Jaane tu ya Jane na is still one of the well executed, acted coming of age or feel good movie.

Basically, Imran lacked the versatility required to make an enduring career. Something his uncle aced. So once he exhausted all his teenybopper kinda roles, he had nothing new to offer. Hence, Ranbir for whom at one point of time he was considered a major competitor, adapted to varied scripts far better and stayed around while Imran faded away.

He was the perfect chocolate boy. He had the looks, the charm and just enough of the acting capabilities required to consistently pull of the lovable young hero role. However, pulling off the same kind of roles later in his career was always going to be difficult and Imran seemed to realize that. I believe he made the mistake of venturing out of his comfort zone too early in his career with projects like Luck and Kidnap, which garnered him no praise and only served to demotivate him. Despite all that, I love the person for his portrayal of the relatable young characters and his willingness to try out different things.

It's better to be remembered for your best performances rather than being mocked at and criticised continuously. He got this and quit for best I believe. He chose to quit not that he couldn't live up to the pressure it's just that he didn't want to. When Arjun Kapoor can survive for sure anybody else can too. Maybe Acting wasn't his calling and he always seemed a curious mind so I too feel he might step into direction. I remember seeing his post on Instagram few years back where he had posted that he is quitting acting for good. I was disheartened. Man has got integrity. His failures led to the whole industry disowning him after Katti Batti (2015). I feel pity for him that his wife has now divorced him due to his unemployment. Back when good movies failed, omkara didn't gain much popularity, matrubhoomi was cancelled. Creative freedom subdued by censor board, nawaz siddique, pankaj tripathi, manoj bajpayee went under the raider. Movies copied from south industries without being mentioned, when south industry was an underdog. I don't want that era when sexual harassment was justified, encouraged. Movies with same formula from 90s, crap escapist type of movies, narrow minded audience discouraged experimenting. Back when LGBTQ communities were taken as a joke. 2000s was the sh*t era of bollywood except for the songs.

The number of movies Imran rejected should be discussed too. As far as I'm aware, the list goes like Rockstar, Zindagi na milegi dobara, Cocktail, and Kapoor and sons. But still the movies he did are definitely etched in the memories of every 90s kid, I'm sure. Jaane tu ya jaane na, I hate love stories, Break ke Baad, Mere brother ki dulhan, Delhi Belly, and Ek Main aur ek tu. All these movies had innocent stories that guarenteed entertainment. And the songs from all these movies ❤️ Even the songs from his not so noticed movies like Luck and Once upon a time in Mumbai dobaara. They all still feel fresh, and have a special place in our hearts.

People tend to overrate Imran Khan in retrospect because of nostalgia. He may be well-spoken and intelligent, but he was always limited as an actor and never really evolved beyond his existing mould like his contemporaries did. I’m a 90s kid and I liked JTYJN too, but the movie worked because of the screenplay and direction rather than the lead actors. That film’s success and being Aamir Khan’s nephew got him movies with good directors, but those movies depended heavily on his acting talent and therefore failed miserably. His half-hearted attempts at acting made it clear he didn’t really want to continue as an actor. Hope he finds interesting work behind the camera.
