I think it's kind of funny how during the Heresy Mars was in such a cluster f*ck state that even the Astartes backed off.

My boyfriend grew up with this series. I would never play the game but the story sounded great. Being a researcher, I immediately went to KZfaq and searched as many 40k lore videos to explain it. Out of all the ones I watched, Leutin's were the best I'd seen. The intro, graphics,details and voice were amazing and I was hooked. Now, my boyfriend and I have conversations about the characters. I agree with another post, you should be part of writing a 40k series. Seriously though, well done.

The fact that humanity managed to survive the technological singularity just shows how advanced they actually were.

"Oh yes, I've seen it with my own eyes, I did. The Emperor was reclining on a throne of soft cloth, fluff, and levers he had brought with him from Terra. The throne was a technical marvel and truly a wonder to behold! The original configuration had the back up, like a standard chair we use here. When he reached down and thrust the polished wooden lever on the side towards the floor, the throne expanded before and behind him on cunningly concealed gears and rails, instantly becoming something closer to a bed or operating table! We were stunned, obviously, so I can't recall what he called it exactly. Curse my poor memory! It wasnt a model or part number, I'm quite sure of that. It sounded like 'L.A.Z. Boy," but whoever the L.A.Z. boy was, we never found out. As I was saying, the Emperor was reclined as we sat around him, watching a massive screen displaying men wearing the colors of various Astartes legions. It looked like one group was made up of the Scythes of Eluvia and the other was the Solar Dragons. I found the large star on the Scythes uniforms quite appealing. The wires coming out of the back of the head of demonic man on the Solar Dragon uniforms were VERY oddly shaped, however. Oh dear! I'm sorry! You were here for my experience with the Emperor. As we watched the screen, it started flickering and getting fuzzy. If course, that isnt uncommon for signals on Mars, but the Emperor has no tolerance for that sort of thing. That's when I saw it. Have mercy on my soul, I SAW IT! He gracefully rose and paced to the screen like a hunting cat. Almost too quick to believe with our eyes, he moved in a blur. We were shocked 3 loud popping noises so rapid they were heard by some as a single sound. When the visual and audible distortions from... whatever he had done... ended, I expected a bundle of snapped cables or even a smoking crater where the screen once was before incurring the wrath of the Emperor. No such damage was visible from our view, although the tears of joy might have obscured the sight of some. There must have been some kind of electrical force or sheer mechanical willpower that he brought to bear on the screen, because the signal was perfectly clear! More clear than before, actually! I could see that the Solar Dragons' symbol wasnt a man with odd cables on his head, but feathers! This realization only came to me as I tried to recall the event, because, though incredible, it was nothing compared to the vision before me. The Emperor, his head bowed and framed by gentle golden light as his hand rested on the side of the viewing screen. The light from the screen played upon one noble cheek and brow on the side of his face, casting the other in shadows so slight they might have been my imagination, although those who knew me said that I am lacking in one. You believe me, dont you? How could my rational mind make sense of an ancient and potent power that repaired machines at a touch? Even that falls short of a true description, because the machine was worked BETTER after the Emperor laid his mighty, healing hand upon it! There is more to the story, however. Ah, I see that you are intrigued! While other witnesses were content with the knowledge that the Emperor had this ability, I was instilled with a burning desire to know HOW it was done. I've never told this to anyone before, but I went over every part of that screen with my sensors and diagnostic viewer.. I found nothing that had been altered internally or externally. No holy wires or blessed components were spotted. In fact, despite reconstructing it using holomodels and confirmation that it was the exact same down to the micron, it never worked as it did that day. I'm sure the others thought my work was getting to me, but that damn screen was driving me mad! I may have misled you when I told you I found nothing. You are the first and last person I will ever tell, if that look on your face is any indication of belief in my story. I've got to tell someone, and I dont think I could start my tale over, even if I had a willing audience. You see, while I didnt find any altered wires or internal components, I DID find something. What it means is still a mystery, but you are a bright one, so maybe it will mean something if we can puzzle out the Emperor's technomancy together. I dont get many visitors down here, but a scholar such as yourself will be up to the task, I'm sure of it! To think they would send a like-minded person to my cell as a way to ease my poor mind! I thought they hated me... they should! If only they knew what I found! You seem strangely inquisitive. Yes, yes, of course I will continue... I had just completed my 13th scan of the parts when I gave up. I couldnt find anything. It must have been the divinity of the Emperor. No other explanation was left. I put the pieces back together quickly, as I had extensive practice by now. It was only after I had replaced the outer shell that I noticed an oddity. This was the first time I had lifted the screen container since taking it down to pieces, you understand, so I couldnt have seen the unusually familiar shaped dent in the material where the Emperor had placed his hand. I held my hand up and judged the contours of my palm were almost identical to the gently sloping stamp in the metal. The size, I think, is what made it pass unnoticed when taking the screen apart. Well, the size and a curious ripple as if not one, but three imprints had been made slightly off from each other. I placed my hand into the the dent and pounded thrice... yes, YES! I can see it in your eyes! You see! The Emperor didnt heal the machine with a touch, well, not in the way those fools staring agog at the Emperor believed when it happened! There wasnt any magic or holy light! No, there wasnt even ancient and potent sorcery! He just hit the side of the damn box really hard a few times! Wait! Leaving already? Sit down and take off that massive coat. I've been alone so long! The Emperor is a fraud and I'm the only one in the entire UNIVERSE that knows it! Not anymore, no. I've got more secrets! The L.A.Z. boy wasnt wonderous! It was a couch! Made of wood and iron from some backwater named Hina for Zeentch's sake! Where did you say you were from, scholar... Einhorn, was it? Ah, yes. that's right, Eisenhorn. Eisenhorn... so familiar sounding. I believe I once heard of an Inquisitor named Eisen... oh dear..."

I don't even play this shit but these videos are so good. It's insane how in-depth and broad the lore is, I love hearing about the history of this universe.

I read somewhere, I forgot where it just stuck with me, that the Men of Iron and other machines turned against humanity because the Eldar wished to remain the most advanced species not wanting to share with one as young as Humans so they deliberately did something that caused the event. They made the world a worse place at lest twice, perhaps such could be a topic for another presentation?

The Mechanicus is actually really interesting from the perspective that they sorta half emulate some of the ideals of some greek philosophers and even later theologians around the idea of a "divine logic" of sorts. That the rules and forces of our universe (basically physics) are the single and greatest truth there is and is by proxy proof of divine will. And that we can only gain an understanding from a deep study of it through mathematics. Which reflects in the Mechanicus in that they worship technology and by also sorta logic as a vast force that weaves through everything. And on a certain level they arn't wrong, both machines and biology function on the same physics as everything else, just measuring down the exact lets say the "blue prints" of a human is Emperor only knows how much more messy.

"Okay, so this Emperor guy comes along and claims he will respect our religion and our autonomy, but I don't trust him because he's an atheist. Now his son, who is clearly in service to some pantheon of dark gods, which goes against my belief in a single Machine God, is staging a coup and making the exact same promises as his father. Only just past the Men of Iron part, and I just have to comment: I've seen in several places (including some of the W40k-focused channels on here) that the rise of the machines was not a big event. And I just CAN'T agree with that. Even before I learned in this video of the planet-destroying technology that they had, it's pretty obvious that a civilization integrating AI and technology so heavily into daily life would be absolutely devastated if the machines suddenly decide to go to war. Sure, it might not have been a long war, compared to the 41st millennium's ongoing slaughter, but even a short war can be significant and devastating.

Despite some arguing that, "40k is in High and Low Gothic, NOT Latin!" I agree. We should standardize grammatic or etymological conventions in 40k to Latin until 40k has the ability to conventionalize itself. What if, like Tolkien's Middle-Earth, the writers had contructed the language of the universe first, then the beings that spoke them, followed by extensive and intricate geneologies? Then any deviations from Latin would be too legit to quit. And THEN we could tell people who say, "uhhh, guess the writers never took Latin cause, its supposed to be '-icus' here, and '-icum' there" "Uhhh, I guess YOU never took Gothic..."

The video is 4 years old and I’m just getting in to 40k, this is really helpful. The opening definitions seriously helped a ton.

Not only is your content incredibly articulate and the best in Warhammer 40k youtube, but I find it extremely engaging. I deeply enjoyed watching all your videos when I discovered them, but sometimes I'm playing games and I would like to have them play in the background...yet I find I actually can't. The work you put in to the presentation itself I find to be so strong, I end up actually feeling it a waste to merely listen to it. Your video format and meticulousness alone is spectacular. my head hurts this is more complex than many films, and yet it is just one piece of the lore 40K is really a marvel

I like the idea that Machine Spirits are automationed systems combined with proper power rating and circuit type. Like trying to use a wire rated to 2ohm on a circuit rated for 3ohm would anger the machine spirit, but it actually just makes the wire overheat and melt. Or if you accidentally put an electrical surge through a built in computer in a vehicle your cruise control could go out.

Great video! Love learning lore about this universe. This is extremely gonna help me as I am starting to play some of the warhammer RPGs. I do a ton of roleplay but as a game master and a player I have been trying to get my foot into this world and videos like this make that job a lot more easier. Though I still have much to learn I appreciate the time and effort you put into this video and clearing up many questions I had at least about the adeptus mechanicus and mars. As a player a tech-priest as my first (and only) character so I love knowing more about my people. As someone who will hopefully game master soon I also got a few plot hooks from this video I could pull on. I was hesitant to watch your older videos, since most youtubers improve over time. I was pleasantly surprised by the continual high standard of information, production(especially audio) and pacing of the storylines intertwined. Kudos, you have my appreciation!

I am 20 videos into this series (62 in the playlist right now). I cannot get enough! Keep them coming, this is the best stuff to listen to while I am working :D Also, suggestion for a video, how the the WH40K video games fit into the lore, what they get right, what they get wrong, etc.

So the emperor killed a dragon in mellinum 2. So probably about 500-1000 years ago in reality. I love how it's made so the he could have been a dragon slayer or god from actual mythology.

I enjoyed the switch from Holst’s “Jupiter: Bringer Of Jollity” to “Mars: Bringer of War” at the beginning. Especially the fact that the hopeful strains of Jupiter sounded so fragile as played by a music box, only to be snuffed out by war. Very appropriate for 40k.
