The most powerful message on prayer I've ever heard. David Platt tackles God's relenting of wrath based on the intercession of Moses in Exodus 32. The Sovereign God allows us to intercede and plead for His power, why is there such a lack of prayer in our lives?

Beautiful. We as Christians don't honor and reverence God enough. Its not a largely taught daily walk with God. To understand the power of God in prayer! We can change the atmosphere and take our rightful place!

God is knowable. This is what makes the Christian faith distinct from all other faiths on the planet.

Perhaps God can be known in the person of Jesus Christ, but with that being said this sermon is still very masochistic. I think Christianity debases man to exalt God. What do you think?
@jcpartri
@jcpartri 10 жыл бұрын
LoverOfTruth2010 Naturally, being a christian, my response comes from the Bible. Since Jesus is how we can know God it is better to send you what he says. [On the issue of debasing man: Luke 14, Psalm 46:10 (Old Testament, prior to Christ's birth, we have God's revelation of Himself to his prophets through His Holy Spirit] The debasement of man is not a "slavery" but actually a freedom [1 Peter 5:6-7 the apostle Peter speaks what He has learned from Christ in this text] God reciprocates exaltation to us, when we humble ourselves under His hand. - many blessings.

LoverOfTruth2010 This isn't Christianity, this is Old Testament preaching. Christ came to bring GRACE & TRUTH, not law. Check out Joseph Prince instead...

We know that Jesus didd not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. (Matt 5:17). Now it is true that we cannot obey the law to be saved. (Romans 7) Christ fulfilled that which we were powerless to do (Romans 10:4) The law of the Spirit has set us free from the consequences of disobedience to the written law (Romans 8:2) Now that we have obeyed through believing in Him we have the Spirit of God (Acts 5:32) This salvation and this faith does not come from us but is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8-10). If we for one moment believe that by doing, we have earned favor with God, and thus salvation, then we have fallen into pharisee-ism.

Why does he agonize as if God is going to strike him?
@davidfulford3356
@davidfulford3356 9 жыл бұрын
Sounds like Platt is in awe and desperate to know God more. Maybe that could be mistaken for agonizing that God will strike him, but Platt never says a word about being struck or eluded to.

David Fulford "The Role of Desperate Prayer in Relenting Wrath" The title of this sermon pretty much says it all. I think that one's theology is a reflection of one's own psychology and Platt's psychology is disturbing to say the least. The problem with religion is man speaking on behalf of God. All I hear is man. I do not hear God. I hear lots of people talking about God...talking about their feelings about God...saying that this is what God says and this is what God wants.

"The wish to talk to God is absurd. We cannot talk to one we cannot comprehend - and we cannot comprehend God; we can only believe in Him." Immanuel Kant.

The fact that you say this shows that you have never tried. study his word and try to comprehend him, then state your case. God will reveal everything you desire if you seek to 'know' Him. The devil knows of him, that's easy.

We can comprehend Him..not totally or He wouldn't be God..but He teaches us His ways, and we can know Him personally. That's why He became one of us (Yeshua..Jesus)..when we couldn't get to Him, He came to us. Jesus bridged the gap between us and God. Want to get to God? Go through His Son whom He sent. He revealed Himself through His Son. A young child may not comprehend everything its parents think, say, or know..or why they do what they do..or how everything works.. But that child can still communicate with its parents.

What is the point of prayer? If god is fair, praying for others does not save them (they have to seek god on their own).

***** So you're saying that asking god for anything is pointless other than it makes us feel connected by which we reinforce his rules and remain obedient? Sounds cowardly, lazy, and utterly pathetic.

***** Oh well aren't you SPECIAL, lecturing me on how if I were a better person I would KNOW god like you do. That tripe doesn't work anymore, shithead. People aren't willing to believe any old magical claims (god) or other bullshit just because you say they'll understand if they stop thinking critically. And fyi, I was a very devout and serious christian for years, until I realized that a real god of perfection would not demand that I forfeit my critical thinking and demand that I go ion pretending to know things I don't (as you clearly do). I know you are peddling a slimy lie. And I note you close with an argument from fear. PATHETIC.

We are to pray for others as Abram prayed and interceded for his nephew Lot who had gotten caught up in Sodom (or Gomorrah) which was about to be destroyed.. We are to pray as Moses interceded for the Israelites after they had made a golden calf and done some very ungodly things and were about to be destroyed. We are are a "royal priesthood"..as priests, we are to pray and make intercession for one another..we are to go to God for out brothers and sisters in Christ, and as well as for those who can't get to Him themselves. That's what love does.
