Hey dude the original album cover has an actual zipper on the front. The zipper to Micks pants and I have that.

Their best album ever IMHO! Some of it was recorded at Muscle Shoals. Every song is fantastic! I vividly recall the album cover as a little boy when my big sister bought it on release and the zipper cover. Sister Morphine used to freak me out a bit when I was 10 or so. Now at 62 years old, it’s still one of my favorite albums of all time!

I could listen to that outro with Mick Taylor's incredible guitar playing even if it went for another 20 minutes! An absolute masterpiece of a song. And one that is really only known by die-hard Stones fans. Never included on any compilation or greatest hits albums, and rarely played on stage, it's stature and standing has only grown over the years.

There’s a film called Gimme Shelter that is a documentary of the Stones reacting to the footage as it’s being edited. The whole festival is the flip side of the joy and innocence of Woodstock as hard drugs came into the scene. Hells Angels were supposed to be security but it was totally out of control. Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Ike and Tina Turner, etc. Fascinating heartbreaking film

Mick Taylor probably could have used a writing credit for Sway and Moonlight Mile. Maybe, maybe not. Taylor performed Sway during his solo career and I think the guitar solo on the version with Carla Olsen never got the love it deserved. Keith called him the maestro but it was an interesting personality clash.

Sticky Fingers is a GREAT album. And…1971 was an amazing year for music with many bands issuing their arguably best album ever. Along with Sticky Fingers, other great Albums that year included: The Who-Who’s Next, Carol King-Tapestry, Jethro Tull-Aqualung, Mountain-Nantucket Sleighride, Yes-The Yes Album, Marvin Gaye-What’s Going On, Doors-LA Woman, Rod Stewart-Every Picture Tells A Story, Blue-Joni Mitchell, Allman Brothers-At Fillmore East, Pink Floyd-Meddle, and many, many more!

I didn't know Alan Klein screwed over the Stones for song rights or that Billy Preston played on this album. Klein also screwed over The Beatles song rights from Apple Records and Billy Preston played on The Beatles "Let it Be" album.

In a lot of ways the Stones 70s albums remind me a lot of Green Day's 90s albums. Their songs are depressing, heavy, they're reflecting on wasted years, addiction, broken ties, death... Broken people make fascinating subjects, I suppose.

No association between the two at all. Other than Rolling Stone magazine was inspired to use the name ‘cause the Rolling Stones were the personification of rock and roll.

The brilliance of a song like Brown Sugar is when you first hear it, you just start bopping without even listening to the lyrics. But later on, when you think about them, you are made conscious of an uncomfortable reality that may have been ignored or swept under the rug.

Mick used the twangy accent he has in "Sway" in many of the Stones country-er tracks. He has it in Far Away Eyes, Sway, Dead Flowers, etc. He cringes about it today...

I read that this album cover was one of the biggest fails ever, since it had an actual zipper that in concept looked cool but in practice destroyed thousands of record albums in shipping. Picture dozens of these "zippered" albums stacked together in a box for shipment.

The Rolling Stone’s mobile studio was also “rented”? Borrowed? By other bands to record. Probably most famous example was Led Zeppelin who used it for Zeppelin IV in 1971 when they were in residence at Headly Grange.

On the album Cover John, the zipper worked. Pull it down, fold it out & the new logo would pop out. Think Andy Warhol. I remember my wife mentioning how cool it would be if it were textured like warm flesh! Liked her attitude, now on to who wrote the lyrics for the Stones, that was "The Glimmer Twins"! Mick Jagger was the Front man & Keith Richard(sic) was the Heart of The Roll 'n' Stones. Keith is the reason you recognize a Stones tune when hearing it for the first-time at random! When you listen to "Happy" look for Keith singing it. 60+ years into them tells me it was no lie, the Stones were The World's Greatest Rock group. Not sorry Zep, you get Honorable mention only & The Who were the Best Live band Ever. Watch their videos or miss at least half the show! Tull fell into the live thing too. Speaking of covers, John & Paul gave Mick & Keith their first chartable Hit song "I Wanna Be Your Man". Stones used it but didn't like it, they wanted to be a Blues band. Thank the Beatles for just one more thing no other band could do, they helped The Stones give up on making covers only! They gave you the Glimmer Twins.... Enough already Amelas.

Altamont concert was filmed. The Hell's Angels was hired for security. The song the band was playing was "Sympathy of the Devil" and Mick stopped singing and tried to stop the Hell's Angel, the fan was killed. Sadly, between this incident at Altamont and The Manson Family murders in the Summer of 1969, the innocence of the hippie flower children movement came to a close after Woodstock. The People and the Music got 'edgier'. Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin. Rock Music took a hard turn from pop rock and folk rock. By 1975, disco nearly killed rock off, before punk and New Wave music killed Disco around 1980.

It's a myth they were playing Sympathy. They were playing Under My Thumb, you can see it in the documentary, Gimme Shelter.
@bobmessier5215
@bobmessier5215 8 ай бұрын
@@edwardsighamony It's possible because I haven't seen "Gimme Shelter in decades, but I could've sworn the murder song was "Sympathy". It's also odd, that Charles Manson interpreted the lyrics of The Beatles song, "Helter Skelter" for a murderous race war. The lesson here is how people interpret things. It explains why Christianity is so messed up and dozens of Christian sects were formed over Bible interpretations. However, the beauty of true art is the interpretation by the viewer and that can often be different than the artist's original intention.

I don't think paid much attention to the words when it came out. It was a banging rock song that everybody liked. It was years later, that I paid attention to the lyrics and found that it was shocking! LOL The whole album was the quintessential Rolling Stones wildest record, even the cover was nasty rock music icon with the zippered album jacket and one of the reasons rock music from 1965-1975 was just an explosion of sound, creativity and talent. Sex, drugs and Rock N Roll 4-Ever!
